Distractions make for a totally healthy and non harming coping mechanism. Mia loved them. She smiled again, halfway through her book already.

Simon had picked up a pretty big book, and had read about a third of it by this point. He was glad he’d thought of this.

Mia was glad he had as well. She let out a quiet hum as she read, head still against Simon. She was enjoying her book, even though it was ratty and the ink had been smudged in places by liquids that had dried long ago.
(Poor Simon this is going to have a loooong pregnancy)

Simon took a quick break, leaving his hand in the book to mark the page but closing it over gently. He blinked quickly, his eyes just itching a bit.

Mia didn't look up for a moment, closing her own book. He rubbed at her eyes, smiling.
"How you doing?" she asked.
“Good, just needed a quick break.” He said, reaching his free hand up to rub his eyes in an attempt to alleviate the itching.
"Got it," Mia said with a nod. "Mm, I wish we could just read and read and not get tired of it."
“Me too…” Simon agreed, letting out a soft sigh. “But sadly eyes gotta rest sometimes. Good thing is we only have to take short breaks.”
"It really is." Mia giggled a little bit. "I don't think I could handle having to wait long times."
“Me neither.” Simon said, laughing along with her. He was glad that in these tough times they at least had each other.

Neither of them had no idea how close Simon had come to losing Mia. How close he'd come to being all alone here, with Astral.
Mia was still smiling, letting out a happy hum of agreement.

That would….that would not have been good at all. Simon would’ve been so afraid if he was all by himself. But at the very least, then Astral wouldn’t be able to use her against him anymore.

Simon had no idea what Astral would have been willing to do if need be to Mia. He could still easily make her… disappear, one day, or turn her into a trinket again. Simon could still be made to be very, very afraid.
Speaking of, the sound of soft footsteps could be heard in the library shelves, coming towards them.
((They definitely have to have a fight with a random Karen who decides to bother them, for no reason except that it’d be funny.))

Simon didn’t doubt it, he’d just do his best not to give Astral a reason to.
He looked up when he heard the footsteps, not sure who it was. “Hello?” He called out softly.

Mia looked up as well, tensing some. It didn't go away when the source of the footsteps revealed themselves- it was just the leopard, looking at Simon and tilting their head. They made their way over, sniffing at Simon before nudging against his hand.

Simon smiled when he saw the leopard appear. “Oh hi there friend.” His smile only widened when the leopard nuzzled his hand. “Oh thank you.” He said, carefully petting the big cat’s head.

The leopard leaned into Simon's hand, licking his wrist. Mia pulled away a little bit, watching the cat with weary eyes.
"What's it doing in here?"

“I dunno it probably just wandered in here.” Simon said, continuing to pet it with a soft giggle. He really liked the leopard honestly, even though he didn’t see it much.
The leopard didn't purr, seeing as big cats couldn't, but it looked content with the petting. So content, in fact, the leopard rested their head in Simon's lap, tail flicking some.
"Okay, then…"
(Hey I have a question- what's Simon's favorite food?)
Simon cooed softly, planting a quick kiss to the top of the leopard’s head. “Such a cutie…” he mumbled.
((Hmmm….I don’t know honestly. Probably just like spaghetti and garlic bread))

The leopard looked up when Simon kissed their head, moving their head up to lick his face in turn. Mia jumped back some, letting out a little yelp.
"C-Careful!!" She acted like the leopard could bite into Simon at any moment, with all of this licking.

Simon giggled softly. “It’s okay, we’re all okay.” He reassured. He still saw the leopard as just a big house cat, he knew they wouldn’t hurt him.
(Aha, I grew out of mine thank god, but when my mom was pregnant with me I was allergic to chocolate so she couldn't have any while pregnant and she hated it XD)
Mia watched with concern still, letting out another squeak as the leopard pushed itself up onto the couch, upper body resting on Simon's lap and nuzzling against his stomach and chest.

Simon’s smile widened and he let out a soft cheer, wrapping his arms around the leopard. “Aww thank you for coming to sit with me.” He said in a bit of a baby voice.
(My dad went out and bought her every kind of m&m after I was born so everything was okay lol)
The leopard leaned into Simon some, rubbing their head against him. Its tail flicked again, and it licked Simon's face a few times. Mia stared, blinking several times.

Simon laughed. “Okay okay that’s enough, settle down now you.” Simon pretended to scold them, but still smiled widely. He knew Mia was scared of the leopard but he trusted them.
The leopard went back to rubbing their head against Simon, pressing into him some with the affection. Mia pulled her legs up, still keeping a close eye on the leopard but not saying anything.
