Mara's breath caught in her throat as she was lifted. It wasn't that she was afraid of heights since she had been on every high shelf in this house and she thought it would be silly and very limiting for someone like her. Though she had to admit, she’d never been on a surface this high that moved before…
Well, she technically had, but as both of them knew she hadn't really been all there as it happened. Darius held his hands close to his chest, an extra precaution to keep Mara safe. It didn't take long for him at all to be back out in the living room, lifting Mara back up to the hole to her house.
Mara made herself take a few deep breaths and looked around as Darius carried her. It was a little strange being so exposed… She wouldn't deny she was relieved to see her home again and carefully slid off Darius's hand. “Thank you.” she said a little breathless still before she took a seat.
"You're welcome." Darius offered a small smile, lowering his hands as he looked at the small woman.
"Are you doing okay?" He was concerned, some, when he saw how she was looking.
Mara nodded slowly. “Just a little dizzy.” she admitted. “I’ll be alright… I’ve just never been flying before.” she added with a small smirk.
Darius chuckled some, nodding.
"Well, I must admit, I've never piloted before either."
Mara laughed a little with him, though she didn't really understand what piloted meant other than a quip back because of what she said. “Well… That wasn't too bad anyway.” she smiled at him.
"Good, I'm glad it wasn't," Darius said, nodding some. "I did my best to make sure you weren't jostled around."
“I noticed.” Mara nodded with a small smile, grateful for his effort. “It was definitely better than… than I thought it would be.”
"I'm glad it was, then. I really am sorry, that he grabbed you like that." Darius decided to pull a chair over this time, instead of sitting all the way over by the couch.
Mara shuddered a little at being reminded of that. “It’s not your fault.” she told him softly. She really didn’t blame him but they would have to be more careful in the future.
"Right. Still, I'm going to be moving the spare key, for sure, so everyone coming in has to at least knock." Darius offered a weak smile, shaking his head.
“That’ll help.” Mara agreed. “Plus when we get that curtain up…” she added looking at the actual hole, gauging how big it really was to see if she had anything to cover it.
The hole was sizable, seeing as Darius's entire head had gone through. He let out a sigh, crossing his arms.
"Here, I'll go get a ruler to see how big it is."
“Ok.” Mara nodded, standing up. “I’ll see what I have to work with.” she smiled at him. Apparently, the tiny woman liked doing projects like this.
Darius stood as well, nodding. So, he went back into his room, pulling open a few desk drawers before he finally found it. He made his way back, lifting the stick up to the hole.
Mara walked into her room and opened a tin box with the word “Altoid” written on it in red letters. She used it as storage for all kinds of her tools as well as some first aid gear in one half and her clothes on the other side. After a quick check, she pulled out a coil of string and a short nail before heading back to the main room.
Darius held the ruler up, humming softly.
"Well, this isn't too bad… it's less than a foot, at least…"
Mara looked up at the information and set her few tools on the table. “A foot… That's up to the 12 mark, right?” she asked, recognizing the stick he was holding.
"Yes, that's right," Darius confirmed, smiling some. He set the ruler down then, thinking.
Mara nodded with a smile at being right. “And it's less than that… that's good. I don't think I have anything as long as that stick.” she admitted since she figured something with a seam would be more noticeable.
"I'll look for something, then, to see if it will work." Darius sighed some, not even sure if he had any scrap cloth that big either. He'd have to look for a bit.
“Ok.” she nodded again. “I’ll see what I can get set up on my end.” Mari smiled excitedly. Oh! I need another tack. she realized as she headed over to grab her hook.
With a hum of acknowledgment, Darius moved back into his room. He pulled out his scraps bin, sorting through to try to find something they could use.
After Darius had left the room, Mara aimed at a piece of wood above the hole and threw her hook. It took a couple tries before she deemed it safe enough to climb but once it was, she picked up the rope and nail and carried them up her climbing cord to the wood platform.
Darius hummed some as he continued, several pieces of cloth by his side as he looked for something that could hide the hole well enough. He thought he had found something, but he wasn't sure if it was big enough, standing from his spot on the ground to go check.
Mara was normally a fast climber but she was slowed a little by holding onto the other objects. Once she made it to her destination, she set down the nail and carefully secured one end of her rope to a corner above the hole. Turns out there wasn't much she could actually do without the fabric.
"Hey, Mara," Darius said, coming back over to the hole and holding the piece of fabric up, "Do you think this will work?"
“One moment.” she called before sliding down her rope to look at the fabric. “Yeah, that should work pretty good.” Mara smiled at him, dangling in the middle of the hole almost like a spider.
Darius nodded, smiling a bit as he watched Mara hang in the hole.
"Need some help hanging it up?" He offered.
