He took Victor's arm, and headed into the main hall. People were milling around, talking, some with drinks in their hands, some with plates of finger food.
He took Victor's arm, and headed into the main hall. People were milling around, talking, some with drinks in their hands, some with plates of finger food.
Victor glances around slightly as they walked, humming as he let Jared guide him, easily keeping stride with the smaller male. He hums softly, his eyes scanning the area. It was in such a manner that it might appear like he was simply sightseeing, when in reality he was assessing the room as well as the people in it.
He moved around until he found his parents. "Hello mom, dad." He greeted, biting his lip faintly.
Victor nods his head respectfully towards Jared's parents, keeping quiet. He didn't say anything unless spoken to in public places. He had a relaxed look over his face.
His parents looked up. His mother was in a black dress, her blonde hair swept into an elegant bun. Jared got his hair from his father, whose red hair was neatly combed, and his beard trimmed short. "Good to see you could make it, Jared." his mother said with a soft smile.
Victor kept a gentle grip on Jared as he glanced around the party. He wanted to make sure things were clear before he interacted with anyone other than the family in front of him. He let the family talk, letting them have their time.
Jared nodded a little as he discussed a few things with his parents, such as why Victor was masquerading as a boyfriend rather than just as a bodyguard.
Victor kept quiet for the most part, explaining a few things here and there in a hushed but respectful tone. He glanced at Jared once and a while to make sure he was okay and comfortable.
Jared seemed fine; they were his parents, after all. They didn't seem entirely happy about the arrangement, but understood why Jared and Victor were doing it that way.
Victor was pleased to see that Jared was content enough with his parents. Victor didn't seem to feel awkward in the slightest. He oozed with confidence and strength.
Eventually, the crowd started to trickle into the dining area, which had been set up for dinner.
Victor took notice and glanced at Jared. For a moment, he seemed to falter. He hadn't really done dinners in a while. If he had, he was standing guard, not taking part. But it quickly faded away and he followed after the crowd, keeping Jared close.
Jared glanced up at him for a moment, offering a faint smile, then headed into the dining room. Seats had been assigned, with room left for some plus ones, like Victor. Jared was seated beside his mother and across from people he didn't know, with Victor at his left.
He followed after Jared quietly, noticing the small smile. He offered one of his own before he settled into his chair. He kept quiet for the most part, waiting to see what the others did before acting accordingly. He took a deep breath, wanting to make sure that he was doing everything right.
Jared picked up his napkin, unfolding it a little and then setting it in his lap, doing his best to remember all the manners he had been taught as a child.
Victor remembered most of the manners he had been taught, which relieved him a little bit. He gave a tense sigh before shutting his eyes and easing himself. It was going to be fine.
The host of the occasion made some speech about how he was honored they had come, and hoped everyone had a good dinner, and with that, the first course began.
Victor ate quietly, and somewhat sparingly. He had never really had big meals so he didn't want to over do himself, plus it's not like he could really do much protecting if he overate. So he did a compromise where he would pace himself and see what felt good.
Jared was careful not to eat too much, knowing he needed to leave room for the main course and any additional courses the host chose to add.
He glanced over at Jared and offered a kind smile. He didn't say anything, unsure whether or not he should speak. He was really… unsure how he should act around all these high class families so he kept quiet.
Most of the conversation was polite, but not friendly.
He didn't speak, not wanting to accidentally insult someone. For the most part, if he did have something in mind, he would quietly tell it to Jared. Most of the time it was just to check in on him.
Jared himself was pretty quiet, only responding to questions when asked, though he was warm with Victor when speaking to him.
(Gtg for a while, will be back in an hour or two)
(Okie dokie!)
Victor felt a little smile grow on his lips the more he and Jared chatted. He just… liked the company of the man beside him. It was… nice.
Jared just liked being able to talk to Victor, really. The other man didn't seem to expect much from him, which was…amazing
Victor did t expect much from people. He was used to taking care of things himself. But he felt oddly at ease with Jared. It felt like Jared saw him as human and not just as a shield.
The first course was taken away and the main course was served. Jared continued his quiet conversation with Victor, glad to have someone to talk to.
Victor made sure to keep the conversation between them pleasant so that Jared could feel a little more comfortable. He wanted Jared to enjoy tonight just a little dispute the events before the party.
Jared smiled softly as their conversation continued, just glad to have someone to speak with.
He ate quietly, mostly focusing on Jared. It was good to see he was smiling. It actually looked rather cute. He hummed and leaned back against his chair, his eyes darting around the table before returning to Jared.
