Melissa glanced up, letting out a soft sigh when her dad came back. "They said they can take you back, now." Mr. Brennahan hummed, watching as Melissa sat up in her seat. "You gonna be alright?"
Melissa glanced up, letting out a soft sigh when her dad came back. "They said they can take you back, now." Mr. Brennahan hummed, watching as Melissa sat up in her seat. "You gonna be alright?"
Lucas nodded weakly and got to his feet so that he could follow Mr. Brennahan back to the room. "What all are they wanting to do?" He asked softly.
"Well, I'm not exactly sure, but the doctor said some really basic 'proceeders'." He repeated, using air quotes for emphasis. "In other words, it's like your standard checkup, just to make sure you're alright." He shrugged a bit, leading Lucas into one of the rooms.
"Okay…" Lucas kept close to Mr. Brennahan, seeming very nervous as he sat down on the edge of a cot. The doctor soon came in and began with checking his vitals, but eventually ended up asking him to take his shirt off so that he could actually examine him. Lucas seemed very hesitant at that, but reluctantly complied, revealing the bite marks all over his skin tinged with red at their edges.
Despite him trying not to say much, Mr. Brennahan said everything with his facial expression. Shock and guilt settled in as he let out a soft sigh, leaning back against the wall a bit. He gave the other adult a slightly worried look as he rubbed his face to try and keep his hands busy. "You really don't remember how all… that happened?"
The doctor paused before starting to disinfect all the wounds, making Lucas tense up and hiss softly in pain. Lucas glanced up when Mr. Brennahan addressed him and shook his head. "N-No, sir… I… um… I think I was probably unconscious when she did all of this, or otherwise so heavily drugged that I wasn't really present."
(Small bump ^^)
(Hey- I'm really sorry. I've been so busy, I just haven't had much time-)
"Yeah, I figured…" Mr. Brennahan let out a soft sigh, rubbing his face. "Just thought I'd ask, for knowledge's sake." He mumbled, rubbing his temple a little as he glanced over to the doctor. Running a hand through his hair, he let silence remain in the room.
(Np!)
After all the wounds were disinfected, Lucas was allowed to put his shirt back on and the doctor checked his eyes, heart rate, and the like to make sure he was alright. After about half an hour, Lucas was deemed to be stable and was allowed to leave.
Mr. Brennahan followed Lucas out into the waiting room, where Melissa sat, head against the wall as she sat there. She hadn't been asleep necessarily, just lost in thought. "Hey, we can go home." Mr. Brennahan hummed softly, gently touching her shoulder. Glancing up at them, it took her a minute to register what was happening. "Oh- um, right. Okay." She mumbled, pushing up out of her seat.
Lucas fidgeted nervously with his sleeves, looking very uncomfortable. He kept close to Melissa, glancing around uneasily as he walked. "We're just going home now, right?" He asked softly.
"Yeah, that's it." Mr. Brennahan replied in a soft tone, taking the lead out to the car. Looking up at him, Melissa took his hand in hers as they walked out to the car. "You alright? Did everything go okay?" She asked softly, pulling his arm around her shoulders.
"Y-Yeah, it went fine…" Lucas held onto Melissa, his heart pounding in his chest. "He just disinfected the wounds and checked me over a bit, that's all. No big deal. Now we can head home and… stay there until we get a court date, if we get one."
Melissa nodded a bit, resting her head on his shoulder. "Yeah…" She sighed softly, looping an arm around his waist. "But, we're not going to stress out about that. Right? We're not going to worry about something we might not even need to?"
"Uh… right…" Lucas replied stiffly, already clearly worrying about it. "There's a good chance we'll have to, though… they can't really incarcerate her without proper evidence."
"But you don't need to worry about it until it comes." Melissa insisted, reaching up and gently turning him to look at her. "You don't need to stress yourself. You've got other things to worry about right now."
"Yeah, yeah… we're going back to school in a day or two, right?" He asked softly, looking at Melissa weakly. "I'll have to deal with that as well, huh?"
"Yeah, we do." Melissa hummed softly, kissing his cheek before climbing into the back seat. "But, you can be excited to get to see everyone. So you're not stuck with just me."
"Y-Yeah, I guess so… it'll be nice to see everyone again. Do you think they missed me?" Lucas asked softly, getting into the backseat as well.
"I'm sure they did. I know that I did at least. And your team probably did." Melissa hummed softly, playing with his hair as they drove back home. "You are their star player after all. And, y'know, a great person."
Lucas smiled weakly, obviously a bit out of it and still not very reassured. "Hopefully you're right… it would be awkward to go back and no one even really remembers me."
"Mhmm, I'm sure several people will be glad to get to see you again." Melissa hummed softly, keeping her head against his. "Even if they aren't, you've at least got one person who's always happy to see you."
"Mhmm… sorry for being so overdramatic about everything." Lucas sighed shakily. "I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing… I should just shut up."
"Don't be sorry, darling. You're stressed out, and I know that, I'm just trying to put your mind at ease." Melissa hummed, rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb. "You don't have to stop talking."
"Mmmm…" Lucas closed his eyes and drew in a deep, wavering breath. "I-I fell like I shouldn't be so stressed out, though. I need to just… calm down. But that's a lot easier said than done…"
"That's true," Melissa shrugged a bit, glancing out the front window. "Maybe you're a little too stressed, but sometimes you need to get it out of your system. So don't stress about over stressing, love."
"Mmmm…" Lucas rested his head against the back of the seat in front of him, sighing again. "Alright, alright… did I take my meds yet?"
"I dunno… I think you did. I could be wrong though…" Melissa mumbled, trying her best to remember if he had or not. "I'm almost positive you did."
"Okay…" Lucas fidgeted a bit, still seeming uneasy. "Mmm… I just need to stop thinking but that's hard…"
"Can I help at all..?" Melissa asked softly, playing with his hair almost mindlessly. It was out of instinct at this point that she offered her assistance. "Talk to you, let you talk to me?"
