“He is a good boy…” She whispered, reaching over and petting him too. Letting out a weak sigh she started to sit up. “I’m going to go change into pajamas… I’ll be back, okay? And then we can lay here… and go to sleep if you want.”
"Okayyyy…" Lucas reluctantly released Melissa and curled up tighter on the bed. He seemed to have fallen asleep with Cody in his arms by the time she returned.
Melissa had gotten ready for bed, quietly curling up in the bed next to him. She couldn’t sleep for most of the night, guilt eating away at her in the midst of the silence. When morning came, she had her arms wrapped around him as she slept. She was holding on pretty tightly, but loose enough he could break away if he wanted to.
Lucas had a piercing migraine when he woke up the next morning and groaned softly in pain. Thankfully, he wasn't under the influence of the drugs anymore, but he still felt awful. "Nngh… Mel…?" He looked at her weakly, struggling to focus through the pain.
Melissa stirred a bit when he spoke to her, looking up at him through a tired haze. "Mmm… hmm?" She mumbled before burying her face back in his chest. She didn't want to be up and was clearly attempting to avoid it.
"I feel awful…" Lucas mumbled, grimacing and screwing his eyes shut. "W-What happened? I can't… I can't remember… god, my head hurts…"
"Mm… you had to go to the hospital last night…" She mumbled, keeping her face hidden. "Dad said something about, her getting to you..? I dunno…" Melissa whispered with a groggy tone.
"Oh…" Lucas was quiet for a moment. "She drugged me, right? I remember her forcing something into my mouth… but not much after that. Just bits and pieces here and there." He sighed softly.
"I think that's what dad said…" Melissa started to pull back away from him. She pushed herself up in a sitting position, rubbing at her eyes. "Said you got to come home, but you needed to be watched in case… I dunno, you got sick or something."
"Mm… or in case I did something, I guess. I don't remember doing anything stupid, but I also don't remember much of anything in general." Lucas winced again and curled up tighter, trembling lightly. "W-We'd have to ask your dad…"
Melissa leaned back against the bed, playing with his hair almost mindlessly. "You were in bed when I got home, and he didn't say anything about having troubles trying to keep you there." She mumbled, fidgeting with the ends of her own hair. "How you feeling? Anything I can do to help…?"
"Mm… I dunno… I feel awful…" Lucas rubbed at his temple with two fingers, grimacing again. "I've got an awful headache and everywhere is achy… not sure what all would help, though."
"Some kind of pain killer, like Advil." Melissa hummed, sinking back down into the bed next to him. Resting her head back on his shoulder, she curled up closer to him. "You want me to get you some?"
"Y-Yeah, sure…" Lucas cradled his head in his hands, obviously tense and uncomfortable. Cody whined softly at him and huddled closer to comfort him.
"M'kay… I'll be back in a minute." She mumbled, kissing his shoulder before getting up and grabbing his water glass. As promised, she came back with the medicine and offered it to him before crawling back in the bed with him.
"Mm… thanks, Mel…" Lucas mumbled weakly, taking the pills when they were offered to him. "I'll have to talk to your dad later to see if he knows any more than I do…"
"Probably not a bad idea…" Melissa mumbled, setting his water glass aside when he had taken the medicine. Gently she pulled him closer to herself, happy to stay here for a while. "Mm… you didn't have work today, did you?"
Lucas shook his head a bit. "No… no work today…" He sighed softly and closed his eyes, allowing Melissa to hold onto him. "I just wanna forget about everything for a while…"
"That's okay," Melissa hummed, looking up at him with a tired look. "You can forget about everything. You don't have to think about anything at all." She hummed softly, nuzzling against him weakly.
"Mm…" Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder, just hoping the migraine would go away soon. "When was the last time I ate…? I don't think I had dinner last night…"
"I dunno… I can make you something to eat in a little bit if you want." Melissa hummed softly, starting to quietly play with his hair. "Probably something light, since you're not feeling great."
"Yeah…" Lucas leaned into Melissa's hand a bit and sighed shakily. "Ugh… did your dad call the police?" He asked. "I didn't have time to…"
"He was working on something when I walked in to ask him what had happened… pretty sure he was filing some kind of report." Melissa murmured, being gentle as she could be. "He mentioned something about going to the flower shop, and talking to your boss about her…"
"Mm… okay…" Lucas huddled a bit closer to Melissa, a bit limp still. "Maybe the headache will go away soon… it's really bad…"
"M'sorry, honey… I want to make it go away for you…" Melissa nuzzled up against him, keeping her face hidden in his shoulder. "Is there anything you can think of that might help..?"
Lucas shrugged a bit, closing his eyes and trying to relax. "Dunno… I'll prolly just have to wait for it to go away…"
Melissa nodded again, curling up even further next to him. Fidgeting with his shirt some, she kept quiet, not really having any idea what to say now.
"I love you…" Lucas murmured softly, his voice a bit muffled from hiding his face. "Do we need to do anything today?" He asked.
“I love you, too…” Melissa mumbled, curling up even closer to him. “Mmm… no. We don’t have to do anything at all. We can just stay here, all day.”
"Sounds good… I should probably take a shower." Lucas sighed softly. "The hot water might help my headache to go away as well."
