Lucas nodded and followed her out. "Be careful. Keep an eye out for her, okay? We don't want to be caught off guard."
Lucas nodded and followed her out. "Be careful. Keep an eye out for her, okay? We don't want to be caught off guard."
"I know we need to be careful, but we don't need to be panicky, alright?" Melissa stated softly, taking his hand as they started walking.
"Right… we'll probably be fine. We have our phones in case we need to call the police or your dad for help." Lucas sighed softly.
"Exactly. And Cody's here too. He'll protect us, won't you Cody?" Melissa hummed, kissing Lucas's cheek to try and relax him some.
"Mm. I'm not sure he's much of a guard dog." Lucas smiled weakly and pet Cody's head with one hand.
"But he's a tough puppy. I'm sure he'd at least try to protect us." Melissa hummed leading them into the park. "Even if he couldn't do too much."
"Probably, yeah." Lucas looked around uneasily, obviously still worried that they were being followed. "And he's getting pretty big."
“He is,” Melissa hummed a bit, glancing around as they started to walk to the clearing. “He’s a good boy.”
Lucas nodded a bit. "Mhmm." He tensed up whenever he heard footsteps aside from his own and Melissa's, still seeming very on edge.
Melissa glanced up at him, letting out a soft sigh. Wrapping her arm around his waist, she kissed his cheek. “We’re alright, relax.” She hummed softly, resting her head on his shoulder.
Lucas nodded weakly and returned the kiss, still not seeming very reassured. When they reached the park, he paused outside the forest, looking around more thoroughly to make sure that they weren't being followed.
Melissa looked up at him with a light sigh, feeling bad he was so worried. Holding onto him still, she pulled him to a stop. “Do you just want to keep walking? We don’t have to go to the clearing if you’re worried about it.”
"Y-Yeah, maybe… I really don't want her to know where it is, just in case…" Lucas held a bit tighter to Melissa's hand, still seeming very uneasy.
"Then we can just walk." Melissa hummed softly, leading him back towards the middle of the park. There were a handful of people there, mostly children playing on the playground not too far off, despite the cold. "We can always use the excersie."
"Mmkay…" Lucas kept close to Melissa, still looking around as they walked together. "She probably won't bother us with so many people around, right?"
"Probably not, no." Melissa hummed softly, nuzzling against his cheek. She rested her head on his shoulder. "And even if she did, people would notice."
"Yeah… and we've got our phones, so we can call for help." Lucas sighed, lacing his fingers with Melissa's.
"Mhmm…" Melissa hummed softly, staying close to him as they walked. She kept up a soft smile up as she held onto his hand a little tighter. "We'll have to be back by four, so I can get my uniform on."
"Sounds good to me. What time is it now?" He asked softly, turning his attention to Melissa briefly.
"Mmm…" Melissa hummed as she pulled her phone out before looking back up at him. "It's three, now. We've got a while… we don't even need to be back exactly at four. Maybe more like four-thirty."
"Alright. That's fine." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek and moved a bit closer to her, resuming his nervous glancing around.
Melissa kept an arm around his waist as they walked, wishing she could do something to relax him. A few minutes went by as they walked before a little boy meekly made his way up to the two of them. "Is that your doggie?" He asked softly, his mother standing not too far off.
Lucas looked up when the boy came up to them, smiling softly. "Yeah, this is Cody. He's real nice. Do you wanna pet him?" He asked. Cody sat obediently at Lucas's side, looking up at the small boy with his tail wagging.
The boy's eyes grew wide with excitement as he nodded his head. Kneeling down on the ground, he was gentle as he pet Cody. "I think he likes me!" The boy grinned, looking up at Lucas. Melissa gave Lucas a smile as well, watching how careful the boy was being.
"Mhmm. He's real friendly." Lucas held a bit tighter to Melissa's hand, still smiling gently. Cody pushed his head into the boy's hand, still wagging his tail and still seeming pretty content.
The little boy was giggling as he pet the puppy, his face lit up. Eventually, his mother came over, starting to apologize as she tried to get him to come with her. "No worries, ma'am. He's alright." Melissa hummed, kneeling down to pet Cody herself.
"It's no problem!" Lucas smiled up at the woman and waved as she took her son with her. He sighed softly and kissed Melissa's cheek. "I love you…"
Melissa smiled up at him, wrapping her arms loosely around him. "I love you, too… you alright?" She asked softly, playing with his hair a bit as they stood there.
"Yeah, I'm okay. Just still a bit on edge." Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder for a moment with a soft sigh.
Melissa nodded a little, resting her head against his. After a couple minutes, she pulled back to look at him. “We can go home if you don’t want to be out here.” She offered softly, holding his face in her hands.
