The meds finally kicked in after a while and Lucas managed to fall asleep on the couch. He was still asleep when Melissa came down the next morning.
Melissa stumbled down the stairs, looking more exhausted than the night before. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders as she walked into the kitchen.
Lucas stirred a bit and whined softly when he heard Melissa coming down the stairs, curling in on himself more tightly as he tangled himself up in his blankets.
Melissa had made herself a cup of tea before coming back into the living room, quietly sitting down at his feet. “Mm… Lu, you probably need to get up. You have work.” She mumbled, rubbing his leg a little as she sipped from her mug.
Lucas stirred again and looked up at Melissa tiredly, his hair disheveled and fluffy from sleep. He didn't look particularly happy to be awake, and he was struggling to keep his eyes oopen. "Mmmmm…"
“I don’t want to be up either…” Melissa mumbled, looking over to him. She rubbed at her eyes, resting her head on the arm of the couch.
Lucas rubbed at his eyes as well and reluctantly sat up, too tired to bother with trying to fix his hair. "Wanna sleep…"
Melissa looked over to him, sighing softly. "Me too… but you've got work." She insisted, pulling the blanket tighter around her shoulders.
"Mmm…" Lucas leaned back against the arm of the couch with a soft sigh. "But I'm tired…"
"I know…" Melissa mumbled, reaching out to try and take his hand. "But we both need to get up."
Lucas whined softly, but reluctantly got up when Melissa took his hand. "I couldn't sleep very well…"
"Me either, honestly…" Melissa mumbled, pulling him close into a hug. "M'sorry, but you have to get up."
Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder, just allowing her to hold onto him. "Mmmm…"
"I love you…" Melissa mumbled, rubbing circles into his back. "I'm really sorry I had to wake you up…"
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas murmured in reply, pulling away so he could start running his fingers through his fluffy hair.
Melissa reluctantly let go when he started to pull back, plenty content to stay curled up next to him. “You want me to make you breakfast?”
"If you want to, I guess, but you don't have to…" Lucas shrugged a bit and sighed.
“I don’t care… I can make it if you don’t want to.” Melissa mumbled, gently tossing her blanket on the back of the couch before walking into the kitchen. “You should probably go get dressed.
"Yeah, probably…" Lucas pulled his work clothes out of his bag with a soft sigh. "I'll be back soon, love." He said before heading into the bathroom to change.
“M’kay…” Melissa called out, yawning as she pulled some butter out of the fridge. When Lucas came back out, Melissa was standing at the stove, trying her best to make French toast.
"You need me to do anything, Melissa?" Lucas asked softly, adjusting his uniform hat.
Melissa glanced over to him, starting to shake her head a bit. "No… or, um, could you grab a plate?" She asked softly, seeming preoccupied for the time being.
"Yeah, sure." Lucas grabbed a plate for Melissa and stood beside her. His uniform consisted of a flower decorated shirt and slim black pants, as well as a simple hat with the store name on the front.
Melissa glanced up at him when he set a plate beside her, giving him a tired smile before resting her head on his shoulder. "Do you want eggs too?" She asked softly, flipping the toast with a spatula.
"No, that's okay…" Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek. "Are you alright, love?" He asked.
"I'm exhausted, but yeah." Melissa shrugged, stepping away from the stove to wrap her arms around him. "What about you?"
"Much of the same." Lucas rested his head against Melissa's and held her close to himself. "I love you…"
"I love you, too…" She whispered, reaching up to hold onto his face. "You're great, darling…"
Lucas smiled gently and closed his eyes, content to let Melissa hold onto him. "You're greater, darling."
Melissa hummed softly, nuzzling against his cheek. "Mmm… I doubt it." She hummed softly, pecking his cheek before pulling back.
