"Mm…" Lucas lay back down when instructed. "You shouldn't have to push the issue, though… I should just not be dumb…"
“Lu…” Melissa sighed softly, playing with his hair. “C’mon. You really shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.” She stated softly, gently brushing her fingers over his cheek.
Lucas leaned into Melissa's hand and sighed shakily. "But it's my fault that I'm in pain now…"
Melissa let out a soft sigh, resting her head on the back of the couch. She glanced down at him, continuing to run her fingers through his hair. “Babe…”
"Mmmm…" Lucas winced a bit and curled up tighter. "Migraines are stupid… they shouldn't exist…" He mumbled. "Make it go away…"
“I wish I could… but I’m not magic.” Melissa mumbled, leaning down to kiss his forehead. “If I was, trust me, a lot of your problems would be solved by now.”
"Mmm… yeah…" Lucas closed his eyes and writhed around a bit on the couch to try and get comfortable to no avail. "Mmmmmmmm…"
Melissa watched him squirm, not wanting to move. After a couple minutes of him trying, she looked down at him with a sympathetic look. "Do you think sleep will help?"
"Don't think I'd be able to…" Lucas mumbled. "But yeah, it might help if I could…"
"Right…" Melissa nodded, leaning back again to rest her head on the back of the couch. "If you think of anything I can do, just tell me, alright?"
"Mmkay, Mel…" Lucas closed his eyes and sighed shakily, curling up tighter and hoping that he might be able to sleep.
Melissa quietly ran her fingers through his hair, holding onto his hand loosely. "I love you…"
"I love you too, Mel… do you need to do anything today?" He asked softly.
“Probably… I’m probably suppose to be getting ready for work.” Melissa mumbled, looking down at him. “But I can sit here still.”
"No, I'll… I'll be fine… you can get ready for work, Mel…" Lucas sighed softly.
“I really don’t want to. I want to stay home, with you.” Melissa mumbled, pulling her hair up in a ponytail. “I’m already too drained for work.”
"I know you don't want to, but you can't just not show up… you'd get fired." Lucas took Melissa's hand in his own.
Melissa let out a weak sigh, looking down at him. “I know… honestly right now I couldn’t care less. But in like two days, I’d be so mad at myself.”
"Yeah… probably so. Make sure future you isn't angry at current you." Lucas laughed weakly.
"I guess I have to get up then…" Melissa mumbled, gently adjusting herself so she could get up. "Can I do anything for you, first?"
"No, I'll be fine… I'm sure the meds will start working soon…" Lucas waved to Melissa and huddled up again.
"Right… feel better," Melissa stated softly, heading upstairs. She felt really bad for leaving him— guilty even, if she was being honest— but didn't really have much of a choice.
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas huddled up under a blanket when Melissa left, tucking his head under it to hide from the light.
It wasn’t too long until Melissa came down the stairs, walking quietly once to the couch. Kneeling down, she gently started to pet the top of his head. “I’m gonna head out in a couple minutes, are you sure there’s nothing you need from me?”
"Yeah, m'alright… I'll keep working on my homework when the headache goes away…" Lucas mumbled softly in reply.
Melissa nodded, kissing his forehead softly. “I’ll be back tonight. I love you, make sure to take care of yourself.” She hummed, standing back up before walking towards the door.
"Bye, Mel… see you later." Lucas waved and huddled up tighter on the couch while he waited for the pain to go away.
Melissa waved back, picking up her keys. "Bye…" She replied, giving him a worried look before walking out.
Lucas was still huddled up on the couch a few hours later, although he seemed more relaxed than before. His head still hurt, but less, and he looked pretty tired.
When Melissa got home, she quietly made her way over to the couch, reaching down to pet him. "Lu..?" She whispered, setting her bag on the floor by her feet.
