"Mhmm… it makes for a good memory." Melissa gave him a little smile, holding onto his hand tightly. "It'd be better to remember that instead of the bad days at least. They'll stand out more."
"Mhmm… it makes for a good memory." Melissa gave him a little smile, holding onto his hand tightly. "It'd be better to remember that instead of the bad days at least. They'll stand out more."
"Yeah… and you learn from the bad things too." Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's and looked off into the distance. "I would never have grown so much if I was still living in Claus's shadow, right? I… of course I still wish I had him back, but I've become my own person now. I'm not just Claus's twin brother who never talks. Now I'm just Lucas. Granted, I still don't talk all that much, but…"
"I like just Lucas quite a lot if I'm being honest…" Melissa hummed softly, resting her head back on his shoulder. "You've definitely shown you're not just a part of him… you're you. Sweet, loving, and amazing you."
Lucas smiled weakly over at Melissa. "Well, I'm glad you like me, at least… People don't mess with me so much anymore. Not entirely sure why, but I'm not complaining." He sighed and looked down at the ground.
Melissa gave his hand a gentle squeeze, glancing up at him with a smile of her own. "That's good… and I wouldn't complain about that either. Honestly, I'd take it without much question…" She mumbled, growing smaller by his side.
"Right…" Lucas sighed softly. "I think part of it might be that I hang around the baseball guys a lot, and they're more intimidating than I am."
“That’s makes sense.” Melissa hummed, kissing his cheek. “Maybe I should hang out with them…” She joked a little, nuzzling against his cheek.
"Well, you can hang around me, at least." Lucas smiled weakly. "I'll try my best to keep them away from you."
“That’s doesn’t seem fair to you, Lu…” Melissa mumbled, sitting up to kiss him. “You don’t have to- though I thank you for the offer. I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
"You take care of me all the time, Mel. It's the least I can do." Lucas gently returned the kiss and pulled Melissa closer.
Melissa buried her face in his shoulder, sighing softly. “But that’s more than taking care of me. You… you could possibly get hurt by getting involved.”
"And you could get hurt if I don't, Mel. I can't just sit by and let stuff like that happen to you." Lucas sighed as well.
“But it’s not your problem to deal with.” Melissa mumbled, sinking lower into his arms. “I should be the one to deal with it. You shouldn’t have to take care of me.”
"And that's how I feel about most of my problems, but you help me anyway. You can't stop me from helping, Mel."
Melissa looked up at him with a weak sigh, curling up closer to him. “This is a different kind of situation, Lucas.” She mumbled, starting to fidget with her hands.
"How so, Mel?" Lucas asked softly. "How is this much different than you getting me out of my dad's house, or getting me to a hospital when I needed one?"
"Well- I um… this is on such a minor scale. I- I should be able to deal with a little… teasing." Melissa mumbled, keeping her eyes trained anywhere but on his face. "I'll be fine…"
"But if you think the stuff you helped me with was bigger, isn't it only fair that I help you with smaller stuff?"
Melissa grew quiet, picking at the fabric of her clothes silently for a little bit before glancing up at him. "I- I guess maybe…"
"I wanna help you, Mel. I want you to be happy. You deserve that." Lucas smiled gently and looked away again.
"B-but… why?" Melissa asked weakly, staying curled up. "I- I'm not special. I- I haven't done anything… anything to deserve it."
"You're pretty special to me, and you seem to think I'm special even though I definitely haven't done anything to deserve it."
Melissa continued to fidget with her fingers, looking at up at him. “You… you’re sure?” She asked weakly, mumbling under her breath.
"I'm sure, Mel." Lucas gently kissed Melissa's forehead and pulled her close. "You're gonna be okay."
Melissa nodded a little, curling up smaller. She relaxed at his kiss, resting her head on his shoulder. “I love you…”
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas smiled gently and rested his head against Melissa's. "When do you wanna head back?"
“I dunno… whenever you want to I guess.” Melissa mumbled, shrugging some. She curled up against him, staying snuggled up against his side.
"Probably soon… I think my fingers are starting to turn blue." Lucas looked down at his hands, shivering from the cold.
Melissa glanced up at him, taking his hands in hers. "I can keep your hands warm," She hummed, kissing his knuckles gently.
Lucas flushed a bit as he watched Melissa, a bit taken aback. "R-Right, um… if you want to…"
