"So do I, Lu…" Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his chest. Quietly she drew circles into his chest, glancing up at him.
"So do I, Lu…" Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his chest. Quietly she drew circles into his chest, glancing up at him.
Lucas sighed softly. "Usually you're upset about reasonable things… I'm panicking over a bit of homework."
“Like what? I’m pretty sure everything I’ve been upset about has been pretty stupid.” Melissa mumbled, keeping herself small. “And trust me, I’ve been stressed about homework too. I didn’t even have half the amount of work you did and I was stressed.”
"I dunno, I mean… you were upset when the kids at school were bothering you, and that was reasonable."
Melissa nodded a little, resting her head against his shoulder to look up at him. “I guess so…” She mumbled with a little sigh.
"Mm…" Lucas huddled a bit closer to Melissa. "Seems like everything I get upset over is really stupid…"
“I understand feeling like that.” Melissa mumbled, burying her face in his chest. “But it’s not true, love. I promise.”
Lucas nodded weakly and held Melissa tightly to himself. "I'm… I'm glad you think so, at least, even if it's hard for me to believe…"
Melissa gave him a weak smile, pressing her lips to his. “I love you… a lot.” She mumbled, playing with his hair.
(Happy New Year!)
(Happy new year ^^)
"I love you too, Mel… so much…" Lucas flushed a bit more when Melissa kissed him, and paused before returning it.
Melissa continued to gently run her fingers through his hair, kissing his forehead gently. "Are you doing any better?"
"A little, I guess…" Lucas looked away, obviously still pretty jittery. "I'll be fine. I just wish I could do homework without doing this…"
"Makes sense… would doing it outside help at all? Maybe at the clearing?" Melissa asked gently, curling back up against him.
"I dunno, maybe…" Lucas sighed softly. "It's really cold, though. I don't know if we'll want to be outside that long."
"That's true…" Melissa mumbled, burying her face in his shoulder. "I'm sorry I can't help you… I really want to…" She whispered, holding on tightly.
"I know, Mel… it's not your fault that I'm a mess…" Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek and kept her close.
"But… but I want to help you. Even if it's not my fault." Melissa insisted, turning her gaze up to him. "I- I want you to feel better… and- I know it's not like you're sick, but I just… I hate seeing you like this…"
"I know you do, Mel…" Lucas sighed softly. "I guess I am sick… in a manner of speaking. Mentally sick instead of physically, but… still not great."
Melissa started fidgeting once more, mumbling to herself momentarily. “…it’s not fair. You deserve so much better- and I… I can’t give it to you.” She whispered weakly, taking one of his hands in hers.
"Why do you think I deserve better, Mel?" Lucas asked gently. "I'm really not all that special… I don't deserve special treatment."
"But- but you went through so much, and… and, well I love you. I want the best for you- I…" Melissa's shoulders slumped as she looked up at him.
Lucas sighed and buried his face in Melissa's shoulder. "Who's to say I didn't deserve all I went through?"
“Lu- you… you didn’t deserve it. You didn’t deserve any of it.” Melissa insisted, voice a lot softer than before. “You- you deserve so much more…”
"Mmmm…" Lucas kept his face hidden for the time being. "I just… do you think I might've done something wrong? Why does he hate me?"
“I- you’ve said you reminded him of… of them.” Melissa mumbled, fidgeting with her fingers. “B-but even if that’s not the reason, you didn’t deserve it.”
"I'm not sure, honestly, I… I don't look that much like my mother, obviously." Lucas sighed shakily. "I mean, facial features are similar, obviously, but… y'know… I mean, considering twins, Claus and I looked almost the same. I… I think he must've blamed me for their deaths the way I do… or maybe he was angry that I, his least favorite of the three options, was the only one to survive…"
Melissa looked up at him numbly, hesitantly started rubbing her thumb on his cheek. "Maybe… b-but it doesn't really matter why. What… what he did was unacceptable. I- you never deserved any of it." She mumbled, tripping over her own words as she spoke to him. "You had no real part in their deaths… it- it wasn't your fault."
"R-Right…" Lucas looked away and sighed shakily. "The… the thing is… I was there. I was there for both of their deaths…" He whispered weakly. "And yet, I survived. I survived and they didn't, and… that's what he blames me for, I think…"
"But he was there too, wasn't he?" Melissa asked softly, letting him turn away. She didn't force him to look at her. "It- it can't be your fault. It just… it doesn't make any sense. And… and it's kinda stupid to think that it is your fault."
Lucas shook his head weakly. "N-No, he wasn't there… not for mom, at least…" He whispered, his eyes growing distant and misty. "Car crash. Bad one, obviously… Claus and I were in the car with her, but dad was back at home…"
