Melissa glanced down at him, letting out a slight huff. “Come on babe, it’s okay… I know all of this. I should honestly except it.” She whispered as she played with his hair.
Melissa glanced down at him, letting out a slight huff. “Come on babe, it’s okay… I know all of this. I should honestly except it.” She whispered as she played with his hair.
"But I… you shouldn't be forced to deal with me acting like this…" Lucas sighed shakily. "And I'm sorry…"
Glancing up at him, she stopped herself from arguing. “It’s okay, honey… I’m perfectly alright with taking care of you.”
Lucas looked away, feeling guilty. "But you shouldn't have to take care of me, Mel… I'm seventeen. I should be able to take care of myself at this point."
“But you never really had someone else to take care of you. You’ve already been taking care of yourself. It’s someone else’s turn to take care of you.” Melissa insisted, resting her head on his shoulder.
"B-But I… if I've already been taking care of myself, I should be able to keep doing that, R-Right? I just…. I feel so weak…"
"No, you… you don't need to. You need someone to take care of and love you. You need to be able to take a break sometimes." Melissa whispered, kissing the top of his head.
"But I should be able to, Mel… I'm almost an adult, and just look at me… I'm pathetic…" He sighed shakily.
Melissa nuzzled against him some, sighing softly. “Come on babe… you just need time to heal.” She mumbled, kissing him.
"Mm…" Lucas closed his eyes and huddled closer to Melissa. "B-But I just… I feel so useless…"
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" Melissa asked softly, playing with his hair. "I really want you to feel better…"
"I don't know, Mel… I don't feel much better than before, so I'm not sure how well continuing my homework right now will go even though I've wasted a lot of time…"
“You sure? I- I feel bad… I feel at fault now…” Melissa whispered, kissing his head. “I- I’m… I’m sorry that I can’t help you.”
"It's not your fault, Mel… obviously I'm not great at helping myself either…" Lucas sighed weakly.
Melissa nodded a little, sighing softly as she continued to play with his hair. “Well- um… let me know if you think of anything…”
Lucas nodded weakly and held tighter to Melissa. "I'm really sorry, Mel… sorry about all of this…"
“Please don’t be sorry… I- I really don’t want you to apologize.” Melissa whispered, resting her head on his shoulder.
"But I feel bad…" Lucas sighed. "I need to get back to work, but then I'll just end up like this again soon, won't I?"
“I- I don’t know, hun…” Melissa whispered letting out a soft sigh. She gently kissed his forehead, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
"Mm…" Lucas relaxed a bit at Melissa's gentle touch, keeping his eyes closed. "I'm a mess…"
"I can't disagree with that, sadly…" Melissa mumbled. "I want to, but I don't wanna lie to you."
"I know, Mel… I'm just a big, useless mess…" Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder again.
“You’re not useless darling… please don’t say that.” Melissa insisted softly, nuzzling into his hair.
"I feel useless, Mel… what good have I done, honestly?" Lucas sighed shakily to himself.
"You've taken care of me, and loved me…" Melissa offered in a gentle tone, resting her chin on his shoulder. "And… and, well you've done a lot of things…"
"Mm… I really haven't done all that much, Mel. I'm just… I'm just a leech. Just a useless… useless thing sticking around and sucking all your resources and energy away…"
“Lucas, please… that’s not true.” Melissa insisted, voice on the softer side. “You know I don’t think that, right?”
"You don't, but I do…" Lucas gripped Melissa tighter, quivering a bit in her grasp. "I'm just a waste of your time and energy and resources…"
"You're not, Lucas. You're not a waste of my time, you never have been." Melissa insisted, looking down at him. "Please…"
"What have I really done though, Mel? What have I actually done to help you?" Lucas sighed weakly.
