Tammy looked up, thinking. She nodded, then, pushing some on Rowan's hand to get out once she was happy with her hug.
Rowan released her compliantly, huddling closer to Matthew with a soft hum. "Mm… we'll be okay…"
"Yeah, we will be." Tammy moved back over to her siblings, wrapping her arms around them.
"Aww." Rowan watched the chicks with a soft smile, shifting a bit closer to Matthew. "At least they still get along."
"Yes, that is good." Mattew ran his fingers through Rowan's hair. He stretched his wings some, wrapping one around them.
"Mm… they're growing up pretty fast. I guess that's typical for birds." Rowan yawned a bit. "How big will they be when they're adults?"
"Half a foot? They're not that big of a species," Matthew pointed out. "It might take a few months at most for them to fully mature."
Rowan nodded and quietly observed the birds. "They're definitely intriguing. Very different than the birds of my world."
"Mhm, I would believe that." Matthew looked at the birds as well, a smile on his lips.
"Then again, so am I."
"Definitely. I showed you pictures of the kind of birds I'm familiar with, right?" Rowan asked.
"Sure did," Matthew said, nodding. "All covered in feathers. It's so… weird, to me."
"Aren't they cute, though?" Rowan smiled gently. "They chirp and sing, but they can't talk."
"Very cute," Matthew agreed. "But hard to communicate with, if they can't talk."
"Well, most people don't try to communicate with them. They're wild, and we let them be." Rowan shrugged a bit. "There's a couple domestic birds that can mimic speech, but they don't really talk per se. You couldn't really have a conversation with one where they actually know what you're saying."
"Ah… Even with our less intelligent birds here, they can understand what we say, even if they can't say things as well themselves." Matthew looked to the chicks, smiling gently.
"Mhmm." Rowan gently pet the chicks and sighed softly. "I'm glad we found them. It's nice to have them around."
"I'm glad too." And glad they didn't eat the eggs for breakfast. That was… well, Matthew couldn't think about how that was almost the chicks' fates.
Rowan yawned a bit and huddled closer to Matthew, closing his eyes again. "I wish I wasn't so tired all the time…"
"Well, it'll help you get better," Matthew said softly. He hugged Rowan to himself some, running his fingers through the man's hair.
"Yeah, I guess so…" Rowan leaned into Matthew's gentle touch, content to let the other pet him for a while.
Matthew hummed softly, chuckling faintly. Rowan was a bit like a big cat, always snuggling and napping. Reminded Matthew of one of the predators he knew.
Rowan looked up at Matthew sleepily before closing his eyes. "Mm… how long will it take to get all of this out of my system…?"
"Hopefully, just a couple minutes," Matthew said. He hummed again, fingers playing with Rowan's hair gently.
"What do you mean…?" Rowan asked softly. "Surely it'll take longer than that to feel better…"
"That's why I said hopefully," Matthew pointed out. "It's unlikely, but it could technically happen!"
"I guess…" Rowan shrugged a bit and huddled a bit closer. "Maybe you guys heal faster than I do…"
"Maybe…" Matthew fell quiet a moment.
"In all seriousness, I'm sure it'll only be a day or two."
"I hope you're right…" Rowan yawned again, keeping his eyes closed. It wasn't long until he drifted off to sleep.
Matthew looked down, smiling softly when he saw Rowan asleep.
"Rest well…"
