"I'm… okay, I think. Bit stressed, but y'know… that's pretty typical." Lucas laughed weakly.
"I'm… okay, I think. Bit stressed, but y'know… that's pretty typical." Lucas laughed weakly.
"Right… is- is it because of all of this..?" Melissa asked softly, chin on his shoulder. "And is there anything I can do?"
"I dunno, Mel… I'm just kinda stressed. Probably mostly because of this situation, but I don't want you to feel bad about it, okay?"
"But… but it's my fault, then. I…" Melissa trailed off, voice soft. She started to fidget with her hands.
"Please, Mel…" Lucas sighed. "We've been over this already… you know I don't think it's your fault, and I'm sorry, but I don't have the energy right now to argue about it…"
Melissa went quiet, staying curled up in his arms. She didn't talk about it again, knowing she had already done enough damage as is. The more she talked, the more likely she would start crying again. "Right."
Lucas kissed Melissa softly and closed his eyes, holding her closer to himself. "Sorry, Mel…"
"It's fine." Melissa mumbled, picking at her shirt some. She fidgeted with her clothes, sighing weakly. "Don't worry about it."
Lucas nodded a bit, resting his head against Melissa's and clinging to her. He kept quiet for a little while.
Melissa let the silence settle between them, sinking into her thoughts. After a decent amount of time, she seemed to snap out of them, looking up at Lucas with a face full of dread. "I- I'm sorry, please… I- I need you to talk to me. I… my mind keeps- wandering…"
Lucas glanced up at Melissa, yawning a bit. "Sure, Mel… what do you want to talk about?" He asked tiredly.
"I- I don't know… anything really." Melissa whispered, trying not to sink back into her head. "What… what about the future? I- I don't know…"
"Well… with luck, you and I will be moving in together and… and maybe getting married and having kids, a-and… y'know…"
"Right- I um… how many kids would you want?" Melissa asked softly, looking up at him. "Just- just because I'm curious."
Lucas flushed and toyed with his hair a bit. "Uhm… I-I dunno… two or three maybe…?" He shrugged.
Melissa nodded weakly, resting her head on his shoulder. "I- I want kids, but not for a while… maybe when both of us are more mentally secured…"
"Yeah, obviously… I-I mean, we're not even eighteen yet, or… or married, or… y'know…" Lucas flushed a bit more.
"I know… but saying for whatever reason we got married at eighteen, I wouldn't want kids so soon… if this is making you uncomfortable, we can change the subject." Melissa mumbled.
"R-Right, uhm…" Lucas looked away, still fidgeting. "I'm okay… waiting is fine, I don't want kids at eighteen…" He stammered.
Melissa sighed weakly, nodding a little. She grew quiet for a couple minutes, trying to think of something else. "Um- what do we wanna do for Valentine's Day? I know it's a while away, but still."
"Uhm… anything is fine with me. Maybe ice skating or something again? That was fun, I guess…" Lucas hummed softly to himself.
"No, I want to know what you want to do." Melissa insisted, looking up at him. "It doesn't have to be something we've already done. It doesn't even have to be romantic, I just want to know what you want to do. Unless you really don't have anything."
"I-I… uh… maybe an aquarium? Or… the zoo? It might be a tad warmer in February than now, so…" Lucas toyed with his hands a bit.
Melissa nodded, realizing she had come off somewhat demanding. Slowly regretting it, she reached up to hold his face. "That could be fun… um- wouldn't surprise me if the school had some kind of dance…"
Lucas turned his gaze up to Melissa when she took his face in her hands. "Yeah… uhm… we could go to that if you want to. I missed the last one, so I guess it could be fun…"
Melissa mentally cringed, remembering parties weren't really his thing. She was really striking out right now. "Or- um, we could just hang out here- or the clearing. Or wherever. I don't really care."
"I'm really fine to do whatever you wanna do, Mel… m'not picky." Lucas shrugged a bit, trying his best to keep his eyes on Melissa.
"I- It's not like we have to decide right now or anything- we've got time." Melissa mumbled, slowly pulling her hand away from him.
"Mhmm…" Lucas closed his eyes again and rested his head on Melissa's shoulder, holding her close.
Melissa was loosely holding onto herself, letting him do whatever he wanted. She started staring off into the distance, growing quiet again.
