Lucas sighed heavily. "If you don't choose something, I'm just gonna make toast again."
Lucas sighed heavily. "If you don't choose something, I'm just gonna make toast again."
"M'not choosing… I don't want to…" Melissa whispered, hugging him tighter.
"Fine." Lucas got up off of the couch, carefully pulling Melissa's hands off of him so he could go into the kitchen.
Melissa only held on tighter, but eventually let go. She curled in on herself, hugging her knees to her chest.
Lucas busied himself with making some toast in the kitchen, eventually bringing back two plates to the couch. "Here, Mel."
Melissa took a couple seconds to respond, looking over her shoulder when he spoke. Slowly she sat up, taking the plate.
Lucas sat down beside Melissa and started quietly eating his own toast, tapping one foot on the ground as he did so.
Melissa didn't bother to try and fill the silence, only ate reluctantly. Once her plate was cleared she reached out to set her plate on the coffee table before laying back down on the couch.
Lucas set his plate down as well and huddled up with Melissa with a soft sigh. "I love you…" He murmured.
Melissa pulled away from him a little, eyes glued to her hands. "Love you too." She mumbled, playing with her fingers.
Lucas rested his head on top of Melissa's and held her close, feeling a bit guilty as he looked away. He knew it was the right thing to get Melissa to eat, but he didn't want her to be upset with him.
Melissa knew as well as him that he was doing it for her own good, but she hated it. He loved her enough to take care of her even when she was completely unwilling. With a shaky sigh, she caved in and buried her face into his chest. "I- I'm sorry… y-you're probably so frustrated with me…"
"It's fine, Mel… just trying to take care of you…" Lucas murmured softly, holding tighter to Melissa. "I just don't want you to be upset with me over this…"
"I…" Melissa grew quiet, hugging herself tightly. "I- I have to be honest- I am… b-but I know it's stupid. Y-You want the best for me, and… and I need to get over myself…"
Lucas sighed and pulled Melissa closer. "I don't want you hurting yourself, Mel… I don't want you ending up stuck in that hospital because of this, okay? I-I just… I want to help you before it's too late."
Melissa was trying not to cry, leaning into his arms more. "B-But isn't… isn't it already too late? I- I feel so broken, it's… it can't be possible to fix me, can it?"
"It's not too late, Mel… we can get you help before you have to get put into a hospital, okay? We just gotta talk to the therapist and get you eating right again…"
"B-But I don't want to… what- what if it doesn't work, and… and I-" Melissa was stammering, tears stinging at her eyes. She was shaking as she tried to speak, but no other words were coming out.
"Well, what can I do to help, Mel?" Lucas asked weakly. "You know I think you're beautiful the way you are. You don't need to lose weight."
"I- I don't know…" Melissa mumbled, hiccuping. "B-But… what if that ch-changes..? What if- what if I gain weight- and you stop loving me… you- you won't think I'm p-pretty…"
"Melissa, I'll think you're beautiful regardless of that. And don't you think you'd positively glow if you were healthy?" He asked, his voice soft.
Melissa looked up at him, lip quivering. "I- I dunno…" She mumbled, gripping onto her arms tighter.
Lucas gently kissed Melissa and sighed softly. "If someone's been bullying you about your weight or something, they're wrong. And you can point me towards them and I'll deal with them for you, okay?"
"B-But you shouldn't have to deal with my problems…" Melissa whispered, picking at her shirt. "Especially… especially my people problems."
"And you shouldn't have to deal with mine, Mel. I love you, okay? I wanna help." Lucas toyed with Melissa's hair a bit.
Melissa sighed weakly, still trembling. "I- you… you know who it is- d-don't you?" She asked softly.
Lucas nodded weakly and held tighter to Melissa. "Yeah… I'll try my best to deal with them, okay?"
"No- please… please don't." Melissa begged him, burying her face back in his chest. "I don't want you to get hurt…"
"I'm sure they'll end up getting more hurt than me, Mel. I can at least report them."
"B-But… but you could still end up hurt…" Melissa whispered, holding on tightly. "I wouldn't forgive myself if you got hurt because of me."
