"Alright…" Cas drew in a deep breath to keep himself going, holding tighter to Zachary's hand. Nix had closed his eyes by now and was trembling progressively more violently the closer they got to Halm's house.
"Alright…" Cas drew in a deep breath to keep himself going, holding tighter to Zachary's hand. Nix had closed his eyes by now and was trembling progressively more violently the closer they got to Halm's house.
"I've got you," Derlik said softly to Nix. "Keep your eyes closed, I'll take the bad away, okay?" That had Zachary more than worried.
Nix nodded idly, not seeming to fully hear Derlik anyway. Cas tensed up a bit, obviously uneasy. He didn't like the sound of that at all.
Derlik placed his hand gently over Nix's head, focusing. He didn't go for any of Nix's thoughts- it was the emotions. He started to pick at them, carefully dislodging small parts and taking them away to make Nix just feel a little bit better. Zachary was still tense, holding Cas's hand tightly.
Nix relaxed a little bit as Derlik picked at his emotions, going a bit limp. "Mmmmm…" Cas paled a bit and held tighter to Zachary. "W-What are you doing to him?!"
"He's too stressed," Derlik said, still mostly focused on Nix. "I'm just helping him with the overflow. It's dangerous to take too much." Derlik continued, mindful of every little bit he took. Finally, he pulled out completely, hand lowering as he kissed Nix's forehead. Zachary shook a bit. He… well, the cane was proof he did not have a good history with minds being messed with.
Cas seemed very uneasy at that. "D-Don't… don't mess with his mind. You should know better than anyone how fickle they are. You could do some serious damage to him, and I know none of us want that."
"I've also been doing this for millennia more than the other. I know what I'm doing, I'll make sure he doesn't get hurt." Derlik held Nix close, looking down at him with a soft sigh.
Cas sighed softly, not seeming entirely convinced. "Just… be careful. He doesn't need any more shit happening to him."
"I will be," Derlik assured. He looked down at Cas then, still holding Nix to himself.
Nix yawned and huddled closer, still tense and shaky, but a little less so than before. Cas glared up at Derlik, tightly gripping Zachary's hand.
Derlik kissed Nix's head gently, looking down to see just how out of it he still was. Zachary had half-frozen, still walking forward but not really doing anything else.
Nix still seemed very dazed, and was between consciousness and unconsciousness. He was pale and quivering, and occasionally whimpered softly. Cas was angry and terrified and exhausted all at once, and he tried to put most of his energy into soothing Zachary.
Soon, it didn't matter how the men were reacting. Derlik held Nix close to himself, coming to a stop at the door. He didn't say anything, shielding the man's view of the house before them. Zachary held onto Cas's hand tightly, glancing at the pond. Where was his sister..?
Cas followed Zachary's gaze, growing uneasy when he didn't see the fish in the pond. Nix looked up at the house blearily and whined, starting to tremble more violently.
"Hey, hey," Derlik said softly, taking Nix's head in his hand and gently turning it so Nix was only looking at him.
"You're right here, in my arms. It doesn't matter where else we are, because I won't let anyone touch you, okay?" The door knob turned slowly, Zachary's sister there. She looked… well, like her very soul was being slowly drained of energy. Zachary let out a soft sound of shock, hurrying to her.
Nix turned his ears back a bit, curling his tail around Derlik's arm. He didn't seem entirely convinced, but nodded anyway. Cas followed Zachary, looking concerned. "Oh my god… are you okay? What did he do to you??" He asked.
Derlik kissed Nix's head, staying outside. As soon as Zachary passed the threshold, he stumbled, letting out a soft gasp as whatever was happening to his sister began with him, too.
"N-No…"
"What's going on…?" Cas asked, staying outside the door for now, although he was still holding onto Zachary's hand. "Zachary, are you okay? What's wrong?"
"Don't- Don't come in," Zachary said softly. He was trembling some, leaning against the doorway with his sister.
"When… when a god is close to… that… If any soul attached to them gets too close, they'll be slowly drained to keep the god alive."
"H-Huh?" Cas looked up at Zachary, terrified and confused. "Then… then we should stay outside, r-right? We don't want to do that, and… and technically we already obeyed, right? I mean, we're here. I don't think she ever said we had to go inside, right?"
Zachary nodded quickly. He raised his hand to gently cup Cas's cheek, not coming out of the house.
"Please, please don't come in. I… I love you, Cas…"
(Don't you dare kill Zachary you monsters!!)
(asdfghjkjhg in this world death is an illusion and nothing is every permanent)
"Can't you come back out, Zachary?" Cas asked, beginning to grow a bit panicked. "Zachary? P-Please come back out… we can… we can stay out here. We'll be fine, right?"
"I love you so, so much," Zachary said, tearing up some. "I'll fix this, I promise…" Zachary left his hand on Cas's cheek, rubbing him gently with his thumb.
"I… I-It'll be okay, Cas…"
"Zachary, what are you doing?! You have to come back out!" Cas insisted, his eyes stinging with tears. "P-Please, come back out… you can't… you can't stay in there, Zachary, please…"
Zachary shook his head a bit.
"I… The farther I get from him now, t-the faster it'll be," he explained, a few tears rolling down. "I… I love you so much, Cas…" Zachary let his hand slowly fall from Cas's cheek.
"N-No, please…" Cas whispered, a couple tears rolling down his cheeks. Is he… going to die? "Please, Zachary, I… I-I can't lose you. P-Please come back out here…"
