"Hello," Matthew said quietly once he had the man's attention. "I'm here to see the mage? This man accidently ended up in our world, and we'd like to get his things here."
"Hello," Matthew said quietly once he had the man's attention. "I'm here to see the mage? This man accidently ended up in our world, and we'd like to get his things here."
Rowan kept his face hidden and exhaled shakily, holding a little tighter to Matthew. Just calm down… stop being so weak…
Matthew ran his fingers through Rowan's hair, trying to keep him calm. The man looked over some papers.
"He should be free in a few minutes. Please, have a seat, mister..?"
"Hendricks."
"Mr. Hendricks."
Rowan kept quiet when Matthew sat down other than some shaky breathing. He wrapped his arms around the other's neck and sighed.
Matthew held Rowan close, running small circles in his back.
"I've got you… We'll be in your world soon, promise."
Rowan nodded a bit, still staying silent for now. He wasn't sure that Matthew would like his world…
Matthew fell silent as well, rubbing his thumb in circles still. Timmy nuzzled against Rowan again, resting his head on Rowan's neck with a yawn.
"I'm sorry…" Rowan whispered almost inaudibly, curling in on himself a little more.
Matthew reached up to Rowan's cheek. He pulled Rowan close. He just wanted Rowan to feel better, was that so bad?
Rowan sighed softly and huddled closer to Matthew. "It'll be over soon…"
Matthew nodded a bit. He looked up when his name was called, standing up. He made his way to a pair of metal doors, which slid open to reveal an elevator. Matthew looked a bit awed by it, not used to things like this.
Rowan didn't seem fazed at all. After all, he saw this sort of thing all the time back in New York. "What floor are we going to?"
"Ah… I was told the top one," Matthew said. He looked at the buttons, a bit confused by them. There were ones with numbers, yes, but there were also ones with letters and abreviations he didn't understand.
Rowan nodded a bit and pressed the right button. "We have a lot of these things where I'm from… I can help you navigate."
"O-okay." Matthew was still a bit confused. "I wonder why it's in this world, then…" He sighed a bit.
Rowan shrugged. "No idea. Nothing else in this place is very much like it…"
"Oh…" Matthew tapped his foot a bit as the elevator went up. He held Rowan close. Timmy looked around, sitting on Rowan's shoulder still.
Rowan glanced around a bit, occasionally petting Timmy while he did so. "I guess they're up here, then?"
"Yeah." Timmy leaned into Rowan's hand, letting out a soft purr. The elevator finally came to a stop, and Matthew stepped out.
Rowan looked up when Matthew started moving again and sighed. "Alright… let's… let's do this…"
Matthew nodded a bit. He continued on, gently patting Rowan's back. There was another secretary here, who told them the mage would be ready in a moment.
"Mm…" Rowan buried his face in Matthew's shoulder again and sighed, waiting for them to get called back.
Finally, after so much waiting, the door opened to the back.
"Hendricks?" a voice called out. Matthew let out a sigh of relief, moving to head through the door.
Rowan looked up when Matthew started moving again, his heart beginning to pound harder in his chest. They were so close…
Matthew stepped into the room, to be met with a neat, tidy office. A man sat behind a desk, in a crisp suit.
"Please, sit down," the man said. "I heard someone from another world accidently appeared here?"
Rowan nodded a bit and turned his head so he could at least look at the man. "Y-Yeah, uhm… that would be me…"
The man leaned forward a bit, nodding.
"Could you please tell me what exactly happened when you came?"
"Well… I saw a ring on the ground, and I figured it might belong to someone, s-so I picked it up, and then I was… well… here."
The man nodded a bit.
"I see…" He pulled open a desk drawer, pulling out a gold ring.
"One like this?" he asked.
Rowan nodded as he looked at the ring. "Yeah, it looked a lot like that one… is this like… a common problem here?"
