Nix yawned again and closed his eyes, purring while Derlik pet him. "Mmm… thanks…"

"You're welcome…" Derlik went back to humming, jacket around Nix as he gave the cat gentle affection and care.

Nix eventually drifted off into a light sleep in Derlik's arms, purring contentedly in his sleep. He stayed mostly still, but his ears and tail occasionally twitched.

Derlik smiled softly when Nix fell asleep, going silent. The poor thing…

Nix huddled close to Derlik, seeming comfortable enough, but beginning to occasionally stir after a while.

Derlik looked down when Nix began to stir.
"Hey…"

Nix whined softly in his sleep and turned his ears back, trembling lightly in Derlik's arms.

"Hey, Nix," Derlik said again, growing worried then. "Nix, wake up."

"Mmmmm…" Nix curled up into a tight ball, trembling a bit harder and starting to breathe more quickly.

"Nix." Derlik sat up, bringing Nix with him and shaking him some.

Nix stirred again and finally opened his eyes, which were shining with tears. He looked up at Derlik weakly, still quivering.

"I've got you," Derlik said, hands coming up to cup Nix's cheeks.
"I've got you, and no one is going to hurt you, okay?"

Nix nodded weakly, hiccuping and burying his face in Derlik's chest as he trembling. "I-I… I'm… s-sorry…" He whispered.

"It's okay, it's okay sweetie," Derlik said softly. He hugged Nix close, kissing his head.

Nix hiccuped again and huddled closer, the fur on his tail puffing up a bit as he clung to Derlik.

"I've got you…" Derlik began to gently rub Nix's back, kissing his head again. "You're safe, no one can hurt you."

Nix held tightly to Derlik, his ears laying flat back against his head. "I'm s-sorry…" He whispered shakily. "I'm sorry…"

"Hey, hey, shh, it's okay Nix." Derlik ran his fingers through Nix's hair, his arms around him.
"What happened?"

"J-Just a dream, I don't wanna talk about it…" He mumbled in reply, still shaking and hiccuping.

"Okay, okay then…" Derlik continued to rub Nix's back, kissing his head.

Nix buried his face further in Derlik's chest and held tightly to him, still trembling for a while afterwards. "I-I don't wanna go back…"

"I… I know, sweetie…" Derlik held Nix close, doing what he could to comfort the cat.

Nix sniffled a bit and coughed, holding tighter to Derlik. "B-But I'm not allowed to stay or Mother will hurt us…"

"I… I know…" Derlik patted Nix's back, hugging him.
"We're going to be okay, Nix. He's not going to be able anywhere near you."

Nix nodded weakly and hiccuped again. "B-But he's— g-gonna— be in the same house…"

"I'll kick his ass out if I have to," Derlik said, holding Nix close.

"B-But you can't do that, can you?" Nix asked weakly, rubbing at his teary eyes a bit.

"You bet I will, if it's what it takes to make you happy." Derlik leaned forward, gently kissing Nix's head.

"But what if he gets mad and hurts you…?" Nix asked weakly.

"I'll kick his ass," Derlik assured Nix. "Serna and other gods would help me, too." It'd be a war.
