Melissa leaned over to him, nuzzling against his cheek. "You feeling any better?" She asked softly, sitting up just a little.
Melissa leaned over to him, nuzzling against his cheek. "You feeling any better?" She asked softly, sitting up just a little.
"A little, I guess…" Lucas returned the nuzzles and soon finished his sandwich.
Melissa nodded just a little, taking his plate and leaning forwards. She switched the two plates out, sitting back with her own sandwich. "Anything I can do to make it better?"
"Cuddling is good… you can just eat your sandwich and don't worry about me, okay? I'll get over myself…"
Melissa looked over at him, feeling extra worried when he said that. "Lu… please, don't drown your feelings down like that…"
"I'm fine, Mel… the meds will kick in soon and I'll be fine, okay?" He sighed and huddled closer to Melissa.
"Okay… okay…" Melissa sighed softly, eating quietly. A little bit passed before she finished, reaching out and setting her plate down.
Lucas had been silent for a while, quivering a bit while he waited for his meds to work. He was really trying to ignore his thoughts.
Melissa sighed softly, pulling her hair up out of her face before slinking back and curling up in his arms. She gave him a soft smile, pulling him close to herself. "I love you…"
"Love you too…" Lucas mumbled in reply, keeping his eyes closed for now as he huddled up with Melissa. "M'sorry…"
"Please… there's no reason for you to apologize." Melissa insisted, running her fingers through his hair. "Please, please don't feel like you have to."
"But I feel bad…" Lucas replied weakly, toying with his sleeves a bit. "Even if I know you're not mad, I just… I dunno…"
"I know you do, and I understand. I- I just… I hate knowing you feel like this." Melissa whispered, rubbing his cheek with her thumb. "I- I hate seeing you like this. I really wish I could help you."
"Mm…" Lucas leaned into Melissa's gentle touch and sighed. "It's not your fault, Mel… it's my own…"
"I know that, Lu… but- I just… I hate it. I wish I could help you, and make things better." Melissa insisted, pulling him closer.
"I'm sorry…" Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder, holding more tightly to her.
"I don't want you to be sorry… I-" Melissa sighed weakly, burying her face into his hair. "I just want to be able to help."
"Mmm…" Lucas sighed again and looked away, feeling guilty. "You help by just being here, Mel…"
"I feel like there's more I could be doing, though, Lu. You- you're sure there's not?" Melissa asked softly, oblivious to his guilt.
"I don't think so… sometimes I just need to work it out for myself. But it's good to know that you're always there when I need you…"
Melissa sighed weakly, nodding just a little. She continued to pet him, kissing his head softly. "Don't forget it."
Lucas nodded a bit. "Mhmm… I love you, Mel…" He murmured softly.
“I love you, too.” She whispered, kissing the top of his head again. “Do you want to take a nap? You said you were tired earlier.”
"Last time I took a nap, I almost set your house on fire, so I think I'll be staying awake for now." Lucas sighed softly.
Melissa sighed, holding onto him still. "I'll stay awake, Lu. If you want to sleep."
"Mmm… but I don't wanna…" Lucas held tighter to Melissa. "I wanna stay awake right now…"
"Okay, you don't have to sleep…" Melissa told him softly, running her fingers through his hair. "How about a distraction? Can I distract you?"
"Sure, Mel… do whatever you want…" Lucas sighed softly and just allowed Melissa to pet him.
"Maybe we could make hot chocolate when we go and sit on the roof tonight. We can cuddle up, and watch the fireworks." Melissa hummed softly.
"Sounds good to me…" Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder and fidgeted a bit. "We can bring blankets…"
