"Yeah…" Cas sighed softly. "He never wants to cause anybody any trouble, so he just keeps quiet about what's upsetting him until he explodes. I know what that feels like…"
"Yeah…" Cas sighed softly. "He never wants to cause anybody any trouble, so he just keeps quiet about what's upsetting him until he explodes. I know what that feels like…"
"Mhm…" Zachary let out a breath, pulling Cas close to himself.
"I just hope he doesn't explode at the wrong person…"
"The thing is, he doesn't really seem to explode at people…" Cas sighed softly. "He's more letting things build up until he breaks down and cries. Mental breakdown type stuff."
"Oh… that's not going to be good, either." Zachary fell silent, trying to think of ways they could help.
"Yeah… not great." Cas fidgeted nervously with his hands. "He doesn't have a lot of self confidence or anything. He still seems to think that he's just an emotional support cat and it's his job to help other people, and he's neglecting his own feelings to do so."
"Which is really bad, since he was thrust so quickly into having complex human emotions," Zachary agreed. "He doesn't know how to deal with them on his own because he only knows how to help with others."
"Right. He hasn't really figured out how to handle feeling so much emotion, and he doesn't want to ask for help because he doesn't want to bother anyone. If we don't do something, seeing Halm might very well set him off…"
"And we don't have much time left at all to help him before we need to go back…" Zachary closed his eyes.
"Yeah… I really don't think that it's going to go well. He's trying to keep himself busy so he doesn't think about Halm."
"It doesn't help that Derlik is letting him." Zachary let out a breath. He didn't know what to do…
"Yeah… whenever Nix wants to do something that's obviously just meant to be a distraction for himself, Derlik allows it. It's not going to end well."
"No, it isn't. Still, I don't know what we can do to stop him from enabling Nix…" Zachary held Cas a bit closer, resting his cheek on Cas's head.
"Right, yeah… I'm not sure. He probably wouldn't listen to us, and Nix doesn't want to face the issue."
"And I know if I was the one to try to tell him, I'd probably end up getting hit or something…" Zachary bit his lip.
"Yeah… I wish Serna could talk to him for us." Cas sighed softly. "He might listen to her."
"I wish she could too…" Zachary closed his eyes. "But we can't go see her."
"Yeah…" Cas buried his face in Zachary's shoulder. "We'll just have to wait it out, I guess… just be prepared for things to go to shit as soon as we show up at Halm's."
"Yeah…" Zachary leaned back on the bed, arms around Cas's waist.
"Mm…" Cas relaxed a bit in Zachary's arms.
Nix nuzzled against Derlik affectionately, trying to keep himself focused on him.
Derlik held Nix close, kissing his head.
"I've got you…" He was doing everything he could to help Nix stay focused on him, knowing it kept him calm.
"Mmm… when do we have to go?" Nix asked softly, sounding very nervous.
"Tomorrow morning," Derlik said softly. He held Nix closer, kissing his head.
Nix turned his ears back a bit and buried his face in Derlik's chest. "I don't wanna go…"
"I know, sweetie," Derlik said softly, running his hand over Nix's head. "I know…"
"But there's no way out of it, is there?" He asked softly, trembling with nerves.
"No…" Derlik pulled Nix close, wrapping his arms tight around him. "Let's not think about it, sweetie."
"Okay…" Nix shut himself up, not wanting to bother Derlik with his whining. "What should we do, then?"
"How about a walk in the garden?" Derlik suggested. He hugged Nix to himself, gently running his fingers through the cat's hair.
"Mmkay. Sounds good to me." Nix yawned a bit and rested his head on Derlik's shoulder.
Derlik stood to head out, smiling softly.
"I've got you…"
