"Mhmm. No problem, love." Cas started eating his own pizza with a soft hum.
"Mhmm. No problem, love." Cas started eating his own pizza with a soft hum.
Zachary relaxed some, glancing in the direction of the lab. Derlik had carried Nix back to the living room, sitting down with him.
Cas kept eating quietly, helping Zachary whenever he got an opportunity. Nix huddled closer to Derlik, purring happily.
With Nix out of the room, and more importantly out of earshot, Zachary turned to Cas.
"Hey, about Serna…" Zachary hesitated.
Cas looked up at Zachary curiously. "Hmm? What about her?" He asked softly.
"Something… happened." Zachary glanced up to make sure Nix hadn't heard, then continued.
"Mother… Serna's in the lab. It's… it's not good, according to Derlik. We can't- can't help."
"Huh?" Cas paled a bit, obviously confused. "What's going on? What happened?" He asked softly. "What do you mean?"
"Mother decided she was going to hurt Serna," Zachary explained. "Derlik didn't say what happened, but… it's bad. We're not to go in the lab, okay? And whatever we do, don't tell Nix."
Cas nodded, still seeming very nervous. "O-Okay, I won't… will Serna be okay, though?"
"Eventually…" Zachary moved to hug Cas, keeping him close. "Once we leave, I think."
Cas nodded nervously. "Alright… I guess we'll have to come up with some excuse for her being gone, then."
"Mm… yeah, we'll figure something out. How will Nix feel when he finds out Serna won't be here to say goodbye like she promised..?" Zachary sighed, holding Cas to his chest.
"I don't know… I don't think he'll be happy, though." Cas sighed softly. "Not angry, probably, but just… upset."
"Right…" Zachary let out a soft breath. "I just hope he doesn't blame Serna for it…"
"Hopefully not… it's hard to say, though. He's going to be upset enough that he has to leave in the first place."
"Right…" Zachary shook his head. "I hate this. I hate all of this."
"Me too… it's not going to go well regardless of the circumstances." Cas sighed softly.
"It's really not…" Zachary trailed off, resting his head on Cas.
"Mm…" Cas huddled up against Zachary and held tightly to him. "Hopefully everything will turn out alright…"
"Hopefully…" Zachary let out a breath, bringing Cas over onto his lap.
Cas rested his head on Zachary's shoulder and closed his eyes. "I love you…" He murmured.
"I love you too…" Zachary settled down into the kitchen chair, rubbing Cas's back with a soft hum.
Cas relaxed after a while, content to let Zachary hold him. "Should we head back into my room soon?"
"I think that would be a good idea," Zachary said, nodding.
Cas nodded a bit as well and reluctantly got up off of Zachary. "Alright. Let's go, then."
Zachary stood, grabbing his cane and leaning on it, his hand slipping into Cas's.
Cas carefully led Zachary back to his room and sat down on the bed with a soft sigh. "How are you feeling?"
"Physically? A lot better. Mentally… not so much. I'm worried, for everyone." Zachary let out a soft sigh, sitting down next to Cas.
"That's understandable…" Cas sighed softly and rested his head on Zachary's shoulder. "I'm worried about Nix especially. He's definitely doing worse than he lets on."
"He is," Zachary agreed. "After everything he's went through, he thinks he's being strong by not saying anything to us."
