Winter jerked her head toward Shiloh. She muttered, "Yeah, I'm fine. I have never slept on a ship before. I really don't know what to expect…" She hoped that Shiloh didn't catch her lie…
Winter jerked her head toward Shiloh. She muttered, "Yeah, I'm fine. I have never slept on a ship before. I really don't know what to expect…" She hoped that Shiloh didn't catch her lie…
Shiloh raised her eyebrows disbelievingly.
Winter was scared that Shiloh was catching on. She looked at her bed, and backed up. It gaped at her. She couldn't seem to catch her breath. The world was going black, all she remembered saying to Shiloh was, "I'm fine, just maybe get Elias. He's cold, maybe I'll wake up.." Then Winter hit the floor, passed out, and launched into her dreams…
When Winter passed out, Shiloh was still holding her arm, so she was pulled down also. She scrambled to her feet and screamed, "Elias!"
Elias jolted awake. Shiloh was screaming his name. He didn't know what was going on. He just got up and bolted to the girl's room. We he got there, the door was open, and Shiloh was leaned over Winter. All he could do was ask Shiloh, "What happened?" As he rushed over to her side, picked her up, and put her on the bed. He made his eyes glow, and suddenly the temperature in the room dropped…
Essar heard Shiloh scream for Elias. He got up and followed Elias. "What's the matter Shiloh?"
Elias was only worried about Winter. The cold should have woken her by now… He was starting to freak out. Meanwhile, Winter was reliving her worst nightmare…
"She was staring at the bed, and then she just fell," Shiloh said, squeezing one of Winter's hands in her own. Suddenly, Elias's eyes began to glow. Shiloh released Winter's hand and curled into a ball, shivering. Elias's cold strength overcame the room.
Elias was starting to cry. He couldn't drop the temperature anymore without hurting Essar or Shiloh. Winter wasn't waking up, and she had started twitching. He was scared for her life. But most of all, he was mad that he couldn't do anything to wake her up…
Winter hated this. Her nightmares were never triggered by a sight, let alone a panic attack. Everything was fuzzy. She was watching her best friend die, and then her people, and finally she saw herself, curled up into a ball, hiding in a little safe room, a poor 12 year old, whose world was torn to pieces…
"Do you two need to be alone?" Essar asked softly. "Sometimes it helps."
Elias looked at Essar. He appreciated his gesture, but he needed Essar and Shiloh to stay until Winter woke up. They were all that was keeping him from breaking. "Not yet, Essar. You and Shiloh are all that's keeping me from losing it, and I need that right now." That moment, Winter started spazzing out. Elias was freaking out. "Shiloh! Pin her arms down! She can't flop around like this, she'll hurt herself!"
Winter felt cold seep into her nightmare. She was trying to go to the cold, but the nightmare was trying to keep her. She was fighting now, for freedom from her past. She hoped that the cold pull was Elias. He was the only thing that she needed to wake up.
Shiloh grabbed Winter's arms and held them to the floor. "Come on Winter… be strong," she whispered. She looked at Elias. "Make it colder," she said firmly.
Elias gave Shiloh a crazy look. "Colder?! You know what that would do to a twi'lek? You could potentially get frostbite! It's already below zero! Any colder, and you and Essar are at risk for freezing alive, and frostbite! No. Winter just has to fight… She'll make it. I hope…
"I've got coats and blankets for Shiloh and I. You can lower the temp Elias." Essar said, standing there feeling useless.
Elias sighed. "Fine. I'll lower the temperature. Just hurry with those coats Essar. You're gonna need them…" He moved his hand to Winter's temples, hoping that this would respond better.Winter felt the pull to the cold grow stronger. Elias was there, she knew it. He was lowering the temperature so that it would wake her up… It was working, she just hoped he knew it…
"This way Shiloh." Essar turned down the hall. He reached into a closet. "Hmm. Your a bit on the small side. I think this one will work. It was one of Teela's…" Essar's expression grew melancholy again as he handed Shiloh the coat.
Winter felt the cold intensify. She was trying so hard to reach it… While on the side where Elias was trying to wake Winter, she started convulsing. Elias was losing his grip. She was throwing herself around, and Elias had to put his full weight on Winter's chest to keep her head still. "Essar hurry up! I think she's getting worse…"
He pulled on his parka and threw a blanket over Shiloh's head. "I don't have anything else that'll work for lekku." He muttered. He jammed his hat onto his head. "Okay Elias! We're good!" He shouted.
Elias dropped the temperature even more. He hoped that this would either relax Winter or bring her back into reality… WInter felt the cold hit her even more. She was so close to waking up, and she hoped Elias felt it too…
Essar walked into the cockpit. "I'm turning everything off except the Hyperdrive and Life Support. Cold messes with some of the things."
Elias nodded. He realized that Winter's breath had become more even, and she wasn't struggling as much. He took that as a good sign, and dropped the temperature even lower for hopefully the last time…
Winter was struggling. She was almost awake. She just needed one more burst of cold, and she would be freed from her nightmares…
(Gtg.)
(Bye)
Elias hoped that Shiloh didn't mind that he dropped the temperature by another twenty degrees. Winter felt something click in her mind. She finally released herself from her past, and she went toward the cold…
(Hello? Erudite you on?)
Shiloh's heart pounded. The cold was making her dizzy. Essar had thrown a blanket over her head and said something blurry. "Is Winter okay?" she asked. The words felt funny on her lips. No, she couldn't feel her lips. She wrapped the warm coat more around her shoulders, but it did nothing to help. "Winter?" she whispered clumsily. "Essar? Elias?" Her head felt heavy.
