“I- I guess, at times… I- I don’t really know.” Melissa whispered, leaning into his arms. She kept her face buried away from him, keeping a tight hold on herself.
“I- I guess, at times… I- I don’t really know.” Melissa whispered, leaning into his arms. She kept her face buried away from him, keeping a tight hold on herself.
Lucas sighed and pulled Melissa closer, burying his face in her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Mel…" He whispered.
“W-Why are you sorry?” Melissa asked softly, lifting her head to look at him. “You… you didn’t do anything.”
"I'm sorry that you're dealing with this, Mel…" Lucas murmured softly.
Melissa sighed weakly, nodding a little before burying her face in his shoulder again. “It’s… it’s not your fault. You don’t have to be sorry.”
"I know, Mel, but I know how it feels to feel that way…" Lucas held Melissa closer.
Melissa let out a soft sigh, lifting her head up. “It’s fine. It’s not like you want me to feel like this.” She whispered, slowly pulling away from him.
"I definitely don't…" Lucas toyed with Melissa's hair a bit. "And I'm really sorry that you have to feel like this…"
"You really don't have to be sorry." Melissa let out a weak sigh, reaching to finish off her breakfast before it got any colder.
"Maybe not, but I am…" Lucas nuzzled against Melissa's cheek and sighed again. "I love you and U hate to see you feeling like this…"
"There's not much that can fix it, though." She mumbled, the bare traces of a smile pulling at her lips when he nuzzled against her. "I just have to stick with it until it goes away…"
"That's not how it works, Melissa… this kind of thing can't go away on its own. You need help. Professional help."
"But- Lucas, it… it's been on and off. It's not a consistent thing." Melissa insisted, looking over to him.
"That doesn't mean it isn't serious, darling… when we get you a new therapist, you gotta talk to them about it…"
Melissa let out a weak sigh, avoiding rolling her eyes as she turned away from him. "Yeah." She muttered some, finishing off her food before standing up to set her plate in the sink.
Lucas let her go, running his fingers through his hair to try and settle himself down. He didn't like the sound of this…
After rinsing her plate off, and starting out of the room after that. She went upstairs, and came back down a few minutes later. She had a jacket and shoes on, glancing over to Lucas. "I'm going for a walk. By myself." She stated simply before starting towards the door.
"Oh, uhm… o-okay…" Lucas stammered softly, watching her go with a worried expression. After a few minutes, he got up and went over to curl up on the couch.
Not long after Melissa had left the house, Mr. Brennahan came down the stairs. He didn't notice Lucas when he first came down, but caught sight of him when he was heading back upstairs. "Lucas? What are you doing here?" He asked confused, sipping from his coffee cup. "I thought I heard you and Melissa leave the house."
"Melissa said that she wanted to go on a walk by herself…" Lucas sighed shakily. "I'm worried about her… she's starting to show some signs of depression as well."
Mr. Brennahan came over, and sat on the edge of the couch. "What kind of signs?" He asked softly, looking over to Lucas. A look of worry fell over his face as he reached out to set his cup of coffee down.
"Uhm… she said that she was feeling numb and empty and that she feels like she wants to cry even if she doesn't know why… and she said it's kinda on and off." Lucas sighed softly, running his fingers through his hair."
Mr. Brennahan looked over to him, sighing heavily. "Are you sure that's what it is? You know I care about you, but you are just a kid. You're not exactly a professional." He pointed out, hunched over some so his elbows were resting on his knees.
"I know, I know… I'm not saying anything for sure, I'm just… well, obviously I've dealt with this stuff. And am still dealing with it. I've just dealt with all of those symptoms and done a little research and I think it's just something we need to look out for… it's pretty common paired with eating disorders."
"Right…" He whispered, rubbing his face some. Mr. Brennahan looked back over to Lucas, starting to get up. "I want you not to worry about it too much, okay? Just… keep me updated on the situation. And it would be greatly appreciated if you came and told me when she got back. I really don't like the idea of her just wandering off on her own…"
"M-Me either, sir, but I figured she'd be pretty upset if I tried to follow her…" Lucas sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"And I'm not asking you to try and follow her, or anything. I'm not upset with you at all. I'm just stating the obvious." Mr. Brennahan sighed softly, resting a hand on his shoulder. "So don't think I'm mad or upset with you. I'm just worried about Melissa."
Lucas nodded a bit. "Okay, sir… I… uhm… I'll let you know when she gets back. And if she says anything else…"
"Thank you, Lucas." He nodded in return, patting his back before reaching over for his coffee cup. Before he left the room, he paused giving Lucas a slight smile before giving a slight bow, and then heading upstairs into his office.
Lucas curled up on the couch again when Mr. Brennahan left, deciding to keep silent until Melissa returned.
