"I, um… can we lay on my bed?" Melissa asked softly, leaning into his hand. "Just for a couple minutes?"
"I, um… can we lay on my bed?" Melissa asked softly, leaning into his hand. "Just for a couple minutes?"
"S-Sure, Mel… uhm… whatever you want, darling." Lucas replied nervously, getting up and bringing Melissa up to the bed.
Melissa curled up in his arms, burying her face in the crook of his neck. "I… I love you…" She mumbled softly.
"Love you too, Mel…" Lucas huddled up on the bed with Melissa.
Melissa wrapped her legs around his, quietly tracing circles into his chest. "… Thank you, Lu. I, um… I'm sorry."
"Don't be, Mel…" Lucas buried his red face in Melissa's shoulder and sighed shakily. "I care about you a lot…"
“I know you care, and that’s why I’m sorry. I’m… I'm being incredibly difficult about this whole situation. It could have been a lot easier if I just let you help me in the first place. Or my dad.”
"Well, yeah, but I can't exactly blame you… it would be super hypocritical." Lucas sighed. "I hid the fact that my father was abusing me for almost five years, Mel. How much easier would it have been to get me out of there if I told you earlier?"
"I-I know, Lu… I just…" Melissa let out a weak sigh, holding onto him tightly. "I should've listened to you. I should've talked to my dad, and let him help me."
"Well, yeah, but the past is in the past. There's nothing we can change about that now. All we can do is to try and right it now…"
Melissa nodded just a little, settling up against him. "Right… um, you're not upset with me, are you?"
"I'm not upset with you, Mel… I'm just worried about you. But it's gonna be okay…" Lucas replied softly.
"I… yeah. I'm sorry…" Melissa sighed weakly, playing with his hair. "I… I'll probably be alright, if you want to get up."
"I'm fine to stay here as long as you want me to, Mel. Just bear in mind that we'll have to eat dinner at some point."
Melissa flinched a little at that, sighing weakly. "Right…" She sighed softly, burying her face in his shoulder.
Lucas fell quiet and held Melissa more tightly, just letting her take her time.
Melissa let everything settle in, finally seeming to calm down after a while. She looked exhausted as she pulled back, flicking her gaze off his face. "Sorry…"
"You don't have to apologize, Mel… are you ready to get up now?" Lucas asked softly.
"I… I guess so." Melissa shrugged, pushing herself into a sitting position.
"Let's go, then." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly and got to his feet. "What would you like for dinner?"
Melissa shrugged, quietly following behind him. She held onto herself as she trailed after him in silence.
Lucas took Melissa's hand and led her downstairs. Once he reached the kitchen, he started making grilled cheeses for himself and Melissa.
Melissa quietly watched him as he did so, leaning back against the counter. “I… um. Is there anything I can do?”
"You can do whatever you want, Mel. I'll be done with this soon." Lucas smiled weakly over at Melissa.
Melissa nodded, walking over to get drinks for the both of them. She kept quiet as she poured water in their glasses.
Lucas soon brought the grilled cheeses over to the table and slid one over to Melissa on a plate before beginning to eat his own.
Melissa looked down at it, sighing weakly as she picked it up. She slowly ate from it, not looking too happy about it.
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas said softly as he continued eating. It was good to see Melissa actually eating for the first time in a while.
Melissa looked up at Lucas, smiling weakly. "I love you…" She whispered in return, chewing slowly.
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas smiled weakly as well and soon finished his sandwich.
