"How does that help?" Nix asked, accepting the popsicle from Serna and sticking it into his mouth.
"How does that help?" Nix asked, accepting the popsicle from Serna and sticking it into his mouth.
"It'll numb your tongue, so it's harder for you to taste the medicine," Serna explained. She sat down again, a cup of the medicine and a cup of milk in front of them.
"Okay…" Nix kept sucking idly on his popsicle with his eyes closed. He was clearly still a bit out of it from being sick.
Serna patted Nix's head gently, hand going back to his stomach.
It took a while, but Nix eventually finished his popsicle. "Mmkay… um… I think I'm ready now."
Serna nodded a bit. She took up the medicine cup, offering it to Nix.
"Here," she said gently. "Go quickly so you don't have to taste it as long."
Nix nodded and quickly downed the medicine, gagging a bit when the taste hit him. He whined and flattened his ears back.
Serna patted Nix's back, talking the empty cup and offering him the milk.
"You did so good sugar," she praised gently.
"S'gross…" Nix mumbled, his eyes stinging with tears as he gulped down his milk. "Cat medicine always tastes like chicken and stuff. If they can make that medicine taste less bad, why can't they do it for people too?"
"Well, they tried to, but it didn't really work." Serna sighed gently, holding Nix close. "Did the milk help, at least?"
"Yeah…" Nix finished off his milk and huddled up against Serna's chest. "Being sick is stupid…" He huffed.
"Yes, it is." Serna gently patted Nix's back, holding him close.
"Mm… snuggles…" Nix snuggled closer to Serna and yawned, his tail flicking back and forth.
Serna chucked weakly, holding Nix close.
Zachary woke up finally, looking down at Cas.
"Mmm…"
Cas stirred a bit at Zachary's whining and looked up at him with a sleepy smile. "Mmm… mornin', love…"
Zachary chucked softly, shaking his head a bit. No, not morning. He kissed Cas's cheek gently.
"Yeah, yeah… evening, afternoon, whatever it is…" Cas yawned a bit and returned the kiss. "I woke up. Congrats."
Zachary laughed lightly. He lightly pulled Cas's stomach. Hungry?
Cas nodded a bit and sat up. "Yeah… I could eat. What about you?" He asked softly.
Zachary nodded, sitting up as well. He kissed Cas's cheek lightly, smiling.
"Mm… what do you wanna eat? Maybe miss Serna can make something if we're looking for something other than sandwiches or Ramen…"
Zachary shrugged a bit. He didn't mind. He pushed himself out of bed and into the wheelchair, reaching over to help Cas.
"Mm… I might just ask Miss Serna to help, then. I'm not feeling sandwiches and the stove is too high for it to be safe for me to use." Cas slipped into Zachary's lap and huddled close.
Zachary nodded. He wheeled them out of the room to the kitchen, showing Serna and Nix still sat at the table. Serna looked up, offering a faint smile.
"Hi, Miss Serna… how's it going?" Cas asked softly, resting his head on Zachary's shoulder. Nix looked up a bit.
Serna shrugged slightly.
"Nix had to take some medicine," she said, patting the cat's back. "You two hungry?'
Cas nodded a bit. "I thought maybe I could make noodles, but the stove is really tall, so I figured it might not be safe…"
Serna nodded.
"I can make some for you, sweetie. And perhaps find a way to help you make your own food?" She stood, sill holding Nix in one arm.
"Mmkay. Thank you, ma'am." Cas dipped his head politely. "What do you think would be the best way for me to make stuff on my own?"
"Well, I could lower the counter," Serna started. She set about getting the food about, going the extra step and making her own business instead of using a package. "Or, we could get a second kitchen that's the exact size for you."
