"B-But I haven't been able to keep anything down…" Nix whispered. "You've tried to eat something before now?" Cas asked softly, to which Nix nodded weakly.
"B-But I haven't been able to keep anything down…" Nix whispered. "You've tried to eat something before now?" Cas asked softly, to which Nix nodded weakly.
"What did you try to eat, Nix?" Serna left her hand on Nix's stomach, making sure nothing tried to make it's way back up for now.
"U-Um… I had an apple from the fridge, and… a-and a granola bar, I think, b-but I couldn't keep either of them down…" Nix whimpered quietly.
Serna carefully pulled herself from Nix, wrapping her and around him.
"I'm so sorry," she said softly, leaving her hand on his stomach. "I'm so sorry, sweetie. You should have told me… I'm so sorry."
"I-I didn't think you guys would believe me…" Nix replied weakly, huddling closer to Serna while he sobbed. "Why wouldn't we believe you, Nix? You're allowed to be sick." Cas said in a gentle tone. "I dunno, I-I just… I feel like it would've sounded like I was lying or trying to make excuses not to eat…"
Serna held Nix close, tucking him away in her arms.
"Oh, sweetie… I'm so sorry for meeting it seem like we wouldn't believe you. And I'm so sorry for what I did to you…" She ran her fingers through his hair, making sure he wasn't going to get sick now that he'd eaten a bit.
Nix curled his tail around himself and buried his face in Serna's shoulder, noticeably shaking. His skin was pretty hot and flushed lightly with fever. "Do you have any medicine, Miss Serna?" Cas asked softly. "I can go and get it."
"Yes, there's some in the bathroom. It's over the sink, do you think you can reach it? And you might want to grab the thermometer too." Serna held Nik close, rubbing his head gently to try to comfort him.
"I can try my best." Cas headed into the bathroom and returned a few minutes later with medicine and a thermometer, looking a bit disheveled.
Serna reached out for the thermometer first.
"I need you to open your mouth," she said softly. "And we're going to hold this under your tongue until it beeps." Zachary looked at Cas, motioning for him to come over. All of this was obviously affecting Cas, and he'd climbed up onto the counter on his own.
Nix nodded weakly and obeyed, allowing Serna to stick the thermometer in his mouth. Cas curled up in Zachary's lap and closed his eyes, trembling lightly. A few seconds later, the thermometer beeped and came back with a 102.5. "Is that bad…?" Nix asked.
Serna's eyes widened a bit.
"We need to get you cooled down," Serna said. The first thing she did was move Nix off of her. "I'm to got for you to be during with right now, okay sweetie? I'm going to go get some ice packs." This was very bad. Zachary wrapped his arms securely around Cas, watching with concern.
"N-No, don't leave…" Nix whimpered, hugging his stomach as soon as Serna stopped touching him. Cas watched nervously for a second before running off to grab a trash can for Nix just in case.
Serna came back soon, placing several ice packs on Nix. One on his forehead, the back of his neck, everywhere he needed one.
"I'm right here," she said softly, hand going to his stomach.
"We're going to get you cooled down, and get some medicine in you to help, okay?"
Nix nodded weakly and closed his eyes, trying to relax a bit. "He doesn't take pills well…" Cas said softly. "He might have trouble with these. Is there any way to make it easier on him?"
Serna examined the pills.
"He can chew them," she said that a moment. She held her hand out to Cas to hand her one, looking back at Nix.
"We're going to get you feeling better, okay?"
Cas gave her the pills and got back into Zachary's lap with a soft sigh. Nix nodded weakly from where he was curled up on the couch.
Serna gently offered the pill to Nix.
"I need you to chew this, okay? It'll help with your stomach and the pain."
"Okay…" Nix stuck the pill in his mouth and started to chew it. He winced at the taste, but managed to swallow it anyway.
"Thank you so much, sweetie…" Serna sighed softly, gently readjusting the ice packs.
Nix huddled up against Serna again after he swallowed the pill, his ears drooping weakly. He curled his tail up around himself and sighed.
"Nix," Serna said softly. "I'm too hot for you to be up against right now. You need to cool down, not warm up…" She gently laid him back down, staying next to him without touching him too much.
Nix whined softly and reluctantly stayed where Serna had put him. "When do I stop feeling bad?" He asked weakly. "I wanna feel good again…"
"The medicine will help with that," Serna said gently. She gently brushed her fingers over his head.
"I'll make sure you're going to get better."
"Okay…" Nix closed his eyes, trying to relax on the couch. Cas buried his face in Zachary's shoulder with a shaky sigh.
Zachary rubbed Cas's back gently, watching Nix with concern. How had Nix gotten sick? Serna hummed gently to help Nix relax, running her fingers through his hair.
Nix stayed silent for a while, only beginning to relax after about half an hour when the meds kicked in. He yawned and sighed weakly.
Serna relaxed too when the medicine started working. She picked up the thermometer again.
"Let's check how your temperature is doing," she said gently.
Nix opened his mouth to allow Serna to take his temperature. It had gone down to around 100 degrees, but he was still feverish. He at least seemed to be doing somewhat better.
"You've gone down, that's good," Serna said softly.
"I'm going to go get some fresh ice packs to help even more, okay?" She ran her fingers through Nix's hair once, standing up.
