“I can’t wait, darling.” Melissa whispered, giving a soft smile as she disappeared out the door.
“I can’t wait, darling.” Melissa whispered, giving a soft smile as she disappeared out the door.
Lucas waved and sighed, ushering Cody out of his lap and getting to his feet. "C'mon, Cody…" He whistled and headed back to his room with the puppy at his side.
(I’m guessing we’ll probably want to skip to next time?)
(Probably yeah aha)
(:P Alrighty then.)
It had only been a week before Melissa had come back, her father with her. Though clearly things were a little stiff in-between the two. Whatever had happened when Lucas started living with them seemed to have faded as soon as he had left. Melissa was sitting away from him, quite awkwardly glancing around the room. She was doing everything she could to avoid the thing she knew she had to talk to him about. But that wasn't happening now, and from the looks of it, not any time soon either.
"Hey, guys." Lucas smiled weakly up at them when they came in. Cody was sitting in his lap and kept quiet, but wagged his tail in excitement when he saw Melissa and her father. "How's it going?"
Melissa smiled when she saw Lucas, coming up and standing besides him to pet Cody. "Hey, Lu." She greeted in a soft tone, kissing his forehead gently. "Things are… alright, to say the least." Mr. Brennahan responded softly, sitting in one of the chairs provided. He smiled a bit at the two, hands folded in his lap. "What about you, kiddo?"
"I'm… um… I'm doing a little better." Lucas held Cody close to himself while he pet him. "They've got me on lots of meds now, so… that's good, I guess. I still can't really use my arm too much even with the physical therapy, but they said it'll just take time."
"I mean, it's only been a few weeks since you started…" Melissa pointed out in a soft tone, starting to play with his hair. "She's right, Lucas. You really hurt yourself a couple weeks ago. A few weeks is barely gonna do much, especially if you only started therapy recently."
"I know, I know… I just get nervous when I think about it. Like… what if it never fully gets better? I don't think I'd be allowed to play baseball again…" Lucas sighed softly as he looked down at his arm.
Melissa gave a soft look, gently tipping his chin up. "If you take it easy, and slowly start reverting back to normal, you won't have a thing to worry about." She whispered a little, giving a small smile.
Lucas nodded a bit, relaxing into Melissa's gentle touch. "I guess you're right… I just really hope that the physical therapy goes smoothly, you know?"
"Of course, who wouldn't want it to?" Melissa laughed softly, letting go of him to start petting Cody. Mr. Brennahan smiled weakly, giving Lucas a soft look. "I'm sure everything will be fine."
Lucas nodded again. "With the other stuff, I'm doing better… obviously nowhere near perfect, but the meds are helping. I've got more control over my thoughts now."
Mr. Brennahan nodded as well, crossing his arms over his chest. "That's good. I'm glad to hear you're doing better." He hummed lightly, keeping a relaxed look.
"Yeah… it's definitely more tolerable with Cody here. He helps calm me down if I ever get too stressed about something, although the anxiety meds are helping with that to some extent as well…"
Melissa kept quiet, still petting Cody as Lucas spoke. "I'm really glad to hear that. I'm glad something good is happening." Mr. Brennahan hummed, giving a gentle smile.
"Mhmm… talking to the therapist and getting to see Melissa helps as well. And drawing… a lot of the time that isn't filled with various types of therapy is filled with drawing."
Mr. Brennahan laughed softly, nodding a little. “Sounds like a good pass-time. Is there anything in particular you draw, or is it just whatever?” He asked in a light tone, giving him a smile.
"I've mostly been drawing stuff around here or what I can see from the windows, but I've been drawing Cody a lot recently." Lucas smiled weakly.
Melissa smiled a little more, looking up at him. "Do you have your sketch-book with you?" She asked softly, before stepping back and sitting down next to Mr. Brennahan.
"Um… y-yeah, I figured you'd wanna see." Lucas pulled out his sketchbook and slid it across the table. "It's really nothing special."
Melissa lit up a bit more, pulling it close so she could slowly flip through it. "I think it is." She hummed, letting Mr. Brennahan look over her shoulder. "I have to agree," He started, flicking his gaze up to Lucas. "You're quite talented."
Lucas flushed at the compliments and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as he looked down at the floor. "I-I… uh… thank you…" He replied softly.
Mr. Brennahan nodded a little, watching as Melissa continued to flip through the book. "See, I'm not the only one to think so." Melissa commented, keeping her gaze on the pages.
Lucas flushed a bit harder as he toyed with his hair. "I-I dunno, I just… I never really thought anything about it, you know? I've kinda just always been into drawing. I didn't really think I was doing anything special."
Melissa looked up at him, smiling softly as she offered him a hand to hold. "Well, I think it's special. You're an excellent artist." She hummed a bit, still smiling.
Lucas hid his red face in his free hand, clearly nervous. "Thanks, Mel… I-I'm glad that you think so."
Melissa gave his other hand a gentle squeeze, smiling lightly. "Of course, Lu…" She whispered softly, keeping her hold on his hand firm.
Lucas tentatively looked up at Mr. Brennahan after a bit, still holding tightly to Melissa's hand. "Um… how are you doing, sir?"
