Zachary slowly nodded his head, then shook it slightly. He held his finger and thumb close together. He used to be.

"You… used to be Halm's pet?" Cas asked slowly, cocking his head to the side a bit in confusion.

Zachary nodded, giving a bittersweet smile. Yes, that was it. He put both arms back round Cas to show he had gotten it right.

"Mm… um… was it like how Nix was with me, or…? Was it different since you're a fish?" Cas asked curiously.

Zachary slowly lifted his hands, arms till round Cas. He moved them in a large box shape. He'd been in a tank.

"That doesn't sound like fun… don't you prefer being out like this? I mean, obviously you couldn't be out of water as a fish… but you know what I mean."

Zachary nodded. He really did. He hugged Cas, putting his head on Cas's a moment. He moved his hand, making a fist. Trying to mimick the shape of a lock.

"I have no idea what you're trying to say." Cas laughed softly, pressing a gentle kiss to Zachary's forehead.

Zachary let out a sigh. He laughed a little at himself, mostly so he didn't think about how useless he was at communicating. He let out a soft hum, holding Cas close.

"Sorry, love." Cas nuzzled against Zachary affectionately, gently kissing him again. "I love you~…"

Zachary need a little, giving a soft smile. He leaned his head forward, hesitating before he carefully kissed Cas on the lips.

Cas smiled gently and returned the kiss, crossing his wrists behind Zachary's neck as he clung to him. He'd let Halm and Nix slip his mind for the moment.

Zachary's arms were around Cas's waist, closing his eyes a moment. He let out a soft sound, and it actually sounded like a order this time.
"…l-love…"

Cas looked up at Zachary, surprised for a few seconds before he squealed with excitement and hugged Zachary tightly.

Zachary was surprised as well. He grinned, hugging Cas back. He kissed Cas's cheek happily.

"That was so good, Zachary! Thank you~!" Cas grinned brightly, holding tight to Zachary.

Zachary kissed Cas's cheek, grinning brightly. He'd spoken! Perhaps it wouldn't take on long to heal after all.

"You're doing great. I'm sure you'll be talking again in no time!" Cas returned the kiss and nuzzled against Zachary affectionately.

Zachary let out a happy sound, holding Cas close.
"L… love," he said again. It was getting easier the more he tried.

Cas squealed again and buried his face in Zachary's chest, clearly incredibly excited. "Can… can you say my name?"

Zachary did his best, he really did.
"A… as…" he was having trouble with the hard c.

"Shh, shh, don't push yourself too much… that's very good, love." Cas smiled softly and kissed Zachary again.

Zachary leaned into the kiss, nodding a bit. He still smiled. At least he had one word down, and a very important one.

Cas rested his head on Zachary's shoulder, still hugging him tightly. "I love you, Zachary~…"

"Love~," Zachary saud in return. He grinned, rubbing Cas's back and kissing him again.

Cas grinned as well, nuzzling into Zachary's neck with a soft, happy sound.

Zachary reached up to run his fingers through Cas's hair. He let out a sweet smile.

"Mm~… you're always so good to me, Zachary." He murmured gently, leaning into Zachary's hand with a soft smile.

Zachary hummed a bit, kissing Cas's head.
"Love," he said softly. It was because he loved Cas.

"Love you too, darling~…" Cas tucked his head under Zachary's chin and huddled close.
After a while, Nix finally started to stir and yawned, looking up at Halm sleepily.
