@Mr.Misfit

Dylan shivered and returned to the group.

"Mount up," he said, kneeling down to help Avery, "We're going with her. She's got medical supplies, and she doesn't seem particular about us. So we'll take what help we can."

Kaz rolled his eyes. “I’ve got Vaughn. I’ll follow you on my bike,” he said, a hint of protectiveness in his voice as he got up and went to help Vaughn up

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn’s eyes flicked up to Dylan, seeing hesitant before nodding. He held onto Kaz’s arm to help pull himself up, grunting as he did so. He partly leaned against Kaz while he stood, one arm around Kaz’s shoulders while the other pressed against his wound.

“You alright? The bike’s just up that little hill over there,” Kaz said, giving Vaughn a worried look. “I’ve got painkillers too,” he added, just now remembering the bottle he usually kept with his bike

@Desvelarse pets

“I’ll be fine, and yes, painkillers sound amazing right now,” Vaughn murmured, a constant grimace on his face. He glanced around, watching his surrounding. He made a mental note of how his vision was blurred around the edges.

@_sleeby_rat_

“Okay, come on,” Kaz said, walking slowly as he supported Vaughn while they walked. He probably would have just carried him, but the other man was a little heavier than him and he wasn’t that strong

@Mr.Misfit

"Alright, up you go, Darlin'," Dylan grunted as he hefted Avery up. He wasn't strong, but Avery was younger and lighter. It would've been romantic, if it weren't for the blood seeping through Dylan's makeshift dressing.

He laughed at that thought, perhaps a little too loudly.

@Mr.Misfit

(Oops, I didn't check to see if you had responded when I did.)

Dylan chuckled as he made his way towards the car, "This is the… what? Third time? The third time I've dragged you out of a pinch? But I feel like I'm still in your debt somehow. Like I haven't done enough for you." Despite his words he had the largest grin on his face, " Of course, I could just be going crazy. Maybe I'm not as tough of heart as I thought. But…" He slipped Avery into the passenger side of the truck cab, "Still. I feel like maybe I need to do something more. Maybe a birthday present, or a date or something silly like that."

(Dylan's not going TOTALLY crazy. Just beginning to realize how hell-bent everything is. Also sorry answers are sparse, I work a job during summer that I don't get out of till 5. Don't wait up for me unless you absolutely have to. I don't want to be the reason this whole thing stops.)

@Imperfect_Autumn group

(Lol. It's okay. I've got a job from 8 am to 3 pm some days, and other days I'm just super busy.)

"Sorry. I guess I'm a little accident-prone sometimes," Avery said as she leaned back against the seat, once again clutching at her side. "And you don't owe me anything. My birthday isn't until February, anyway. And while a date sounds nice, really nice, um, we're kinda in Africa and on a mission, so I'm not sure how that would work. Although, it might when we get back…"

@Mr.Misfit

(I wanna PM it to you, but can't. You added an ellipsis at the end of you sentence, so I want Dylan to cut her off, and revive a ship at the same time.)

@Mr.Misfit

All the crazy, dangerous, or fun things Dylan has done only leave vague memories of fear or thrill.

His first kiss with Avery, his first kiss at all left a very short but clear memory.

He'd actually embraced her first. She was colder than she should've been, thanks to the major blood loss, but as Dylan held her she began to warm. If it was one more thing he could do for her, that made Dylan just that much happier.

It was comforting. It was… true. Dylan held the embrace for a little longer, then began to pull away. As he did, they brushed cheeks, and from there things blurred. Did Avery pull him back to her? Or did he slip into it?

It wasn't an aggressive kiss. Just a simple pressing of lips on lips that said more than words ever could.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

At first, Avery kissed him back, but then she realized what she was doing and froze.

But. What about Bryce?

Shut up. Bryce betrayed me. He's in the past. He's not important anymore.

Well… Dylan is really, really nice.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

See what you've done, now?

Hush, it's your own fault.

…I'm you

You're not helping.

Avery shook her head, both clearing it of her thoughts and in response to Dylan's question.

"No. Sorry. I just… wasn't expecting it, is all," she whispered. She gave him a small smile as she said, "I've just got a lot of things going through my head, and you took me off guard."

@Mr.Misfit

"If I'm being honest, I took myself off guard." he replied, moving to the driver's seat, "I wasn't really thinking."

@Imperfect_Autumn group

"It was fine, really," Avery assured him, blushing slightly.

Fine? That was great, not just "fine."

She cleared her throat before explaining, "I just… had remembered something and it surprised me."

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan slid into the driver's seat and started up the truck. Making sure Kaz and Vaughn were following, he pulled out and began following the coordinates Artemis gave him.

"So what was it you remembered?" Dylan asked after a short while, "You seemed a little rattled."

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Avery bit her lower lip and looked out the window. Obviously, she would have to tell Dylan about her ex-boyfriend sooner or later, but she would much prefer "later" rather than "sooner." She sighed, turning back to face him.

"It was, um, a person that I would much rather forget about," she explained vaguely. "Someone who betrayed my trust and, uh, kinda broke my heart…" her voice fell to barely a whisper as she trailed off. She turned her attention back out the window as tears pricked in the corners of her eyes.

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan didn't take his eyes off the road, but his tone softened even more from it's usual nature.

"Yeesh. Did he cheat on you or something? You make it sound like murder."

(Are the others still alive?)
