Halm saw, pulling his hand away.
"He'll still be here for you, Cas. He just… needs you to be here for him too." Zachary slowly began to stir, eyes opening slowly.
Halm saw, pulling his hand away.
"He'll still be here for you, Cas. He just… needs you to be here for him too." Zachary slowly began to stir, eyes opening slowly.
"W-What if he… d… d-doesn't make it through this…?" Cas sobbed quietly as he clutched at Zachary. "I c-can't… do this without him…"
Zachary's eyes widened. He tightened his grip on Cas, making a small whine of concern. He managed to push himself up, with Halm's help, and held Cas close to himself.
"He's going to make it through this, Cas," Halm said gently.
Cas buried his face in Zachary's shoulder, hiccuping a few times as he sobbed. "I n… n-need you… and I c— c-can't… do this— without you…"
Nix was still out cold, completely limp in Halm's lap. His steady breathing and occasional ear twitches were really his only signs of life.
Zachary let out a soft coo, doing his best to comfort Cas. He nuzzled Cas's head gently with his own, grip tightening. Halm held Nix with one arm, not shifting him much, the other hand dedicated to help Zachary do the things he needed to.
Cas clung tighter to Zachary, basically in hysterics by now. "Y-You have to promise me— that you w— w-won't die…" He choked on his words and coughed a bit.
Zachary tried his best to force out there words, he really did, but his mouth just wasn't cooperating. He looked at Halm, completely lost.
"He promises, Cas," Halm said gently. "He's doing his best to tell you himself right now…" Zachary moved to pat Cas's back, still needing Halm's help. He felt completely useless…
Cas nodded, still crying softly as he buried his face in Zachary's chest. "W-We're gonna get you b— b-better, okay…?" He said weakly.
Zachary nodded as best he could, hand going up to Cas's head. He kept so close, basically pressed right up to Cas. He just wanted Cas to know everything would be okay again, some day.
Cas gripped the fabric of Zachary's shirt tightly while he cried. "I wish I could just— h-hear your voice again…" He whispered.
Zachary did his best to give Cas something, anything. He let out a low sound, almost a hum. He just wanted Cas to feel better.
Cas tightly wrapped his arms around Zachary's neck with a muffled sob, shaking violently in the other's arms. "I'm s— s-sorry…"
Zachary tightened his grip, nuzzling Cas again. He let out a soft whine, not wanting Cas to be sorry. It wasn't his fault this had happened.
Nix stirred again and opened his eyes with a small yawn. He nuzzled into Halm's chest, still clearly not quite awake. He purred sleepily until he heard Cas crying and turned his head, confused.
Halm held Nix close to himself with one arm, glancing down at him. He gave a weak look. Cas had just woken up, and he was already bawling. Zachary nuzzled Cas again, keeping him close.
"What the hell is going on? What happened?" Nix mouthed to Halm, bewildered. Cas whimpered shakily and clung tighter to Zachary, fresh tears rolling down his pale cheeks.
"He woke up and started freaking out about Zachary again." Halm mouthed back, a defeated look on his face. Zachary reached up shakely, doing his best to wipe the tears away. He whimpered softly, trying to help Cas calm down.
Nix sighed and shifted over to gently run his fingers through Cas's hair. "You're alright, Cas… Zachary's gonna be okay. We'll take good care of both of you, alright? We're going to do our damnedest to fix this."
Halm nodded in agreement.
"You're both going to be safe. We're going to make sure of it." Zachary nodded as best he could. They were all in this together now.
Cas nodded weakly, keeping his face buried in Zachary's chest. "We all care about you so much, Cas. We're doing everything we possibly can, okay? We'll all get through this together, as soon as possible."
Zachary laid his head on Cas's, running his back again. He was slightly better, with how much he was doing it, but Halm still needed to help him.
Cas eventually started to relax a bit, his sniffles dying down. "I'm sorry…" He whispered shakily. "Don't be sorry, Cas… you haven't done anything wrong. You've got every right to be upset, alright?"
Halm nodded.
"It's alright to be upset about what happened, Cas. We just have to make sure we do something to change it." Zachary pulled away a bit to look down at Cas, giving him a shaky, tired smile.
Cas looked up and gently kissed Zachary's cheek, rubbing at his teary eyes with one small fist. "O-Okay, I… I'll try my best…" He whispered shakily. Nix gave him a gentle smile. "That's the spirit, Cas. We'll get through this."
Zachary leaned into the kiss, nuzzling Cas's cheek in return. He also did it to help wipe away the tears, resting his head lightly on Cas.
"Thank you, Cas," Halm said gently.
Cas nodded shakily and huddled closer. "Mhmm…" Nix hesitated before moving back into Halm's lap. This is a mess…
Halm wrapped both his arms around Nix, running his back a little. The day was off to a great start, of course. Cas had already had a breakdown, and it was barely even later enough for breakfast. Zachary let out a gently hum, rubbing Cas's head gently.
"Maybe we should go make some breakfast?" Nix suggested, slipping out of Halm's lap onto the floor and holding his hand out to him.
Halm nodded a little. He glanced at Zachary and Cas, worried about leaving them alone. Zachary glanced up, arms around Cas securely still.
"Cas won't hurt himself with Zachary watching…" Nix whispered to Halm on their way out. "He'll be okay for a few minutes."
