Cas closed his eyes and forced himself to relax. "Do we have any other plans for today, Zachary?" He asked.
Cas closed his eyes and forced himself to relax. "Do we have any other plans for today, Zachary?" He asked.
"Not really," Zachary said. "Most days I work, but I'm not really needed. It's just something for me to do so I don't bother Halm. Is there anything you would like to do?" He didn't like how Cas was forcing himself to relax, but he stayed quiet for now.
"I dunno… preferably something we can do here. I don't feel like going out right now." Cas nuzzled against Zachary's chest affectionately.
Zachary smiled at the nuzzling.
"Alright, then…" he thought a moment, reaching up and rubbing Cas's head. "What about a puzzle? We've got different kinds, we can see if there are any you like."
"Um… we can try. I'm not sure I've ever tried a puzzle before." Cas hummed thoughtfully, leaning into Zachary's hand.
"Alright then. Well start out with something easy, then." Zachary smiled. He was glad to be doing something with Cas, something new Cas hadn't done before. He wanted to help Cas learn about new things.
"Sounds good to me… where did you say we could get the puzzles?" He asked, looking up at Zachary curiously.
"There should be some in Halm's room," Zachary said. He wanted to avoid going to the closet, seeing as they would have to pass Halm and Nix.
"Okay… I'll go with you to grab them." Cas slid off of the bed and held his hand out to Zachary, smiling softly.
Zachary stood, taking Cas's offered hand readily. He led Cas into the bedroom, kneeling down beside the bed and pulling out a basket. In it were many puzzles, all of them different difficulty levels. Zachary pulled out most of the fifty piece puzzles, starting simple.
"Which pictures look good to you?" Zachary asked, showing them to Cas.
"Uhm…" Cas hesitated before picking up a puzzle that had two kittens on it. "I like this one. Because… uh… cats."
Zachary smiled softly.
"I figured," he said. He knew Cas was a cat person, just from Nix being his therapy cat. He picked the kitten box up, setting the others aside for now. He stood, still smiling gently as he took Cas's hand.
"Shall we head back to your room?"
Cas nodded, following Zachary back to his room. "Where should we do it?" He asked. "The bed probably isn't stable enough."
"Do you think the table is big enough?" Zachary asked. He looked at the measurements on the box, glancing at the small table.
"Uh… probably, yeah." Cas shrugged and sat down at the table. He pulled off the lid of the puzzle box.
Zachary sat down as well, nodding.
"Alright then." He took the pieces of the puzzle out of the box.
"Do you need help with what to do?"
"Probably, yeah…" Cas picked up a piece of the puzzle and examined it, clearly not quite sure what to do with it.
Zachary picked up two of the pieces, fitting them together.
"We're going to find pieces that match," he explained, "and put them together to form the picture on the box." He smiled gently.
"Ah, okay…" Cas found a piece that had a picture of one of the cats' ears and spent a while looking for a fitting piece.
Zachary smiled, going slow to match Cas's pace. He looked for the piece as well, secretly moving it to where Cas could find it easier. Zachary started on the border, still slow.
Cas picked up the piece when he found it and fitted it together with his first one, smiling softly when it actually worked. He set to work on finding another piece that matched his first two.
Zachary smiled when he saw Cas's reaction to finding the right piece and putting it together. He leaned over to Cas a little, finding two pieces and fitting them together.
Cas found a couple more pieces, seeming mildly excited every time. Eventually, he had a cluster of about ten pieces in front of him.
"You're doing good!" Zachary praised, smiling gently. "We're over a fifth of the way done." He smiled, then looked down and carefully connected his small group to Cas's.
Cas smiled a bit more brightly and went searching for more pieces, steadily growing his cluster until most of the puzzle was done.
Zachary looked down at the puzzle, fitting a couple more pieces to it. He picked up the last one, offering to Cas.
"Here," he said, grinning. "You can put it in. You did most of the work."
Cas grinned and carefully stuck in the piece. "Done!" He hugged Zachary, seeming to be in better spirits than earlier.
Zachary smiled as well, returning the hug.
"Looks good!" He said happily, nuzzling Cas's cheek a little. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
"Mhmm!" Cas smiled more brightly when Zachary nuzzled against him and huddled a bit closer. "What should we do now?" He asked.
Zachary thought a moment, holding Cas close.
"Well, there are other games we could play, or we could do another puzzle if you want." He grinned, nuzzling Cas again.
