Nix nodded and arched his back up against Halm's hand, kneading the tablecloth happily while he ate.
Nix nodded and arched his back up against Halm's hand, kneading the tablecloth happily while he ate.
Halm chuckled a little, taking a bite of his own food. He kept rubbing Nix's back, shaking his head a little with a smile.
Nix soon finished his food and jumped down into Halm's lap to curl up on him, still purring happily.
Halm finished his food as well, leaning back a bit and rubbing Nix's head. He chuckled a little.
Zachary had finally finished his food, looking over at Cas.
"What shall we do today, now that Nix is back on being your actual cat?"
"Um… I dunno. Why do you think he would have changed back? I know he was enjoying being human…" Cas hummed thoughtfully.
"Well," Zachary saud, humming a bit as he thought. "Maybe he did it to make you happy. You were pretty mad at him when you found out… when you found out what they did."
"Oh, right… that would make sense, I guess." Cas sighed. "I just… I still love him, of course, but I'm not going to sit here and say I'm particularly happy with him at the moment."
"Well," Zachary hummed, "is there any way you could show this to him? Something that shows you're upset, but that you still love him?"
"Um… I'm not sure…" Cas sighed, huddling close to Zachary's side. "He seems to have a problem with guilt the way I do… I'm not sure how long it'll take for him to forgive himself."
Zachary nodded a little.
"Maybe we could find something and be like 'if you do this, I'll forgive you?' Just something to sort of punish him while still letting him know it's okay to forgive himself."
"Maybe? What would I make him do, though? He doesn't know how to like, clean houses or make food or anything."
"Hm…" Zachary thought a moment.
"I know! You know those paw socks they make for cats? Why don't you have him wear those for a while?"
Cas giggled a bit. "Aww, he'd hate that! I don't have any, though… where could we get some?"
"Well, you know that closet in the living room? We can get them from there." Zachary chuckled, standing up.
"This is gonna he hilarious."
"Okay!" Cas grinned and followed Zachary out, clinging tightly to the other's hand. "He's gonna be mad."
"So mad," Zachary agreed. He brought Cas to the closet, opening it and reaching in. In a moment, he was out of the closet holding four paw socks.
"Will these work?"
Cas nodded, grinning brightly. He took the little socks from Zachary and headed into the kitchen. Nix looked up from Halm's lap and yawned.
Zachary followed behind Cas, chuckling softly. Halm looked up, a bit confused when he saw what Cas was holding.
"Yes?" He asked.
"Um… I don't know how to preface this…" Cas said slowly, trying not to laugh. "Uh… we've decided to forgive you guys under the condition that Nix wears these for… how long?" He asked, looking up at Zachary.
"At least an hour," Zachary said. "And he'll have to actually walk around on his own, not get carried everywhere." Zachary smirked, giggling. Halm raised an eyebrow. Oh Lord, this was going to be funny.
Nix mewled quietly in protest, but reluctantly hopped up onto the table. Cas's forgiveness was worth the humiliation in his mind. He held out one paw and Cas carefully put on one of the little socks. He repeated the process until Nix had on all four and was trying to avoid putting his weight on any of his paws.
Zachary let out a chuckle at how Nix was holding himself, wrapping one arm lightly around Cas as he watched. Halm bit his lip again, carefully reaching out to pat Nix's head in comfort.
Nix meowed shakily as he tried to walk, lifting his legs up very high. He turned his ears back while he stumbled around helplessly, wailing and whining. Cas giggled a bit as he watched, huddling close to Zachary.
Halm watched Nix carefully. On one hand, he didn't like seeing Nix in so much distress. On the other, though… Nix looked adorably hilarious. Zachary didn't hold back his soft laughter, holding Cas close and nuzzling his head.
Nix flopped down on the table to pout, stretching his paws up in the air so they wouldn't touch anything. The socks felt so strange on his paws. He couldn't get any traction to walk properly.
Halm finally let out a faint chuckle, which made Zachary laugh even more.
"Come now," he noted, "you're supposed to walk around. It's part of the punishment."
Nix meowed loudly, clearly whining. He huffed indignantly and got back up onto his paws, unsteady and nervous. He carefully made his way over to Halm to jump down into his lap.
Halm gently patted Nix's head, feeling sorry for him. Zachary raised an eyebrow sightly, but let it slide.
"Can I at least help him to the floor?" Halm asked, not wanting Nix to hurt himself.
Nix was staring at the floor and tentatively reaching out his paw, looking like he wanted to jump, but was scared to. "Yeah, go ahead."
Halm sighed softly in relief.
"Okay then." He carefully picked Nix up, helping him down to the ground. He scratched the top of Nix's head, trying to be nice and not laugh.
