"Mm… sounds like a good plan. It benefits us both." Melissa hummed softly, staying close to him. Though she jerked a little when she felt Cody down by her feet. "Goodness, you scared me." She mumbled, pulling back enough to look down at him.
Lucas smiled gently and bent down to rub Cody's head. "He can sleep on the couch with me tonight. I don't want to leave him out here."
"I'd be scared he would try to get out." Melissa hummed softly, loosely wrapping her arms around herself. "So yeah, with you would be best."
"Maybe we can make a pen around the couch so he doesn't wander around the house?" Lucas suggested.
"That works," Melissa smiled, pausing as she started to think. "Any idea what to make it out of? I don't know if we still have those baby play-pens from when I was little, so we'd probably have to come up with something else."
"Mm… I'm not sure. Cardboard boxes, maybe?" Lucas shrugged a bit. "Maybe we can ask your dad when he's done talking to your mom?"
"Cardboard boxes might work. But we should probably ask, just in case he has an opinion." Melissa hummed lightly, tucking her hair out of her face with a soft smile.
Lucas nodded and sat down on the head again. "When do you think they'll be done?" He asked.
"Not sure," Melissa stated as she followed after him. Glancing up to the office window, she started biting on her lip in thought. "Depends how she takes it… I guess. Or what they're talking about, specifically."
"Mm… yeah. We'll give it a bit. We don't have to go to bed for a while anyway." Lucas shrugged and kept petting Cody.
"Did we even have dinner yet? I don't remember." Melissa questioned as she sat down besides him. "We should probably go get some if we haven't. Even if we don't, it's getting kind of chilly out. We probably need to head in."
"We did. Leftover pizza, remember? Then we went and got the food and toys and stuff for Cody…" Lucas picked up the puppy and the water bowl.
"Oh- right. Sorry, today was kind of weird, eating wise." Melissa got up and went to grab the dog toys from the yard. "And then napping, and everything."
"No problem, Mel." Lucas headed inside the house with Cody in his arms. He set the puppy down on the couch.
Following in after him, Melissa set the bag down next to the puppy and gave Lucas a smile. "Want me to put that in the kitchen for you? I have to go wash dishes from earlier, anyways."
"Um… yeah, sure…" Lucas handed the bowl to Melissa and lay down on the couch with Cody on his chest.
Taking it, she set it in the sink before turning the water on and starting to wash off the dishes. Once she had done that, she set them in the dishwasher and started it up. With that finished, she took a towel and dried her hands off as she made her way back into the living room. "How are my boys?" Melissa asked lightly, leaning on the door frame.
"Mm… tired." Lucas smiled softly up at Melissa with Cody asleep on his chest. "We definitely tuckered him out. I think he had fun, though."
Melissa smiled in return, tossing the towel on the table before coming up to him. "I think he did too… do you want to get ready for bed? I can go ask my dad about the pen for Cody later. I'm gonna be up late anyways."
"Nah, I don't wanna wake him… I can stay awake long enough to ask your dad about the pen, at least."
"You're sure?" Melissa asked softly, reaching down to run her fingers through his hair. "I've got homework I need to do. So I'll have to go upstairs."
"I'm sure, Mel. I'll be alright." Lucas smiled gently, relaxing at her touch. "I've got Cody to keep me company."
With a tired smile, she nodded before leaning down and kissing his forehead. "You've got your phone, if you need me, right? I doubt you want to yell up the stairs."
"Yes, I've got my phone. Don't worry, Mel." Lucas returned the kiss and waved a bit. "Love youuuu~"
"Alright, alright, sorry." Melissa hummed, giving him a light sigh. "I love you too. Come get me if my dad comes down stairs."
Lucas nodded. "Or I'll just text you if Cody's still on me. I don't really want to disturb him by moving or yelling."
"Right, that makes sense." Melissa smiled, kissing him one last time before starting off. "As soon as I finish, I'll come back and check on you."
"Alright, Mel. See you soon." Lucas smiled softly and waved, laying his head back on the couch.
Heading up stairs she could hear voices in her father's office still. Only sighing when she passed, Melissa reached her door and pushed it open. She picked up her backpack from besides her door, to carry over to her desk and start on whatever homework she had left.
Lucas pulled out his phone and took a couple pictures of Cody, smiling softly. He took some with both of them in them as well and sent some to Melissa.
