"Good morning," he whispered softly.
Halm slept longer than normal, waking up slowly in the morning to find himself securely snuggled with Cas.
"Good morning," he whispered softly.
"G'mornin…" Cas mumbled, barely awake. He huddled close to Halm, yawning a bit.
Halm smiled a little, yawning.
"Me and Nix had our talk last night," he said. "He's Claimed, just like you. He says it's his job to protect you."
(Me, debating killing Cas today-)
Cas nodded a bit and hugged Nix a bit more tightly. "Yaaaaay…" He murmured tiredly.
(Wonderful. It's all set up for you when you're ready! XD)
Halm yawned again. He patted Cas's head, starting to pull away to make breakfast. He had never thought he would have to take care of one Claimed, let alone two, but he was content.
(Lmao)
Cas soon got out of bed and yawned as well. He headed out of Halm's bedroom and yawned a bit. He decided to go look out the window and went into the front hall. While he was walking, he tripped over Halm's massive hoodie that he was wearing and knocked over the watering can. Nix howled loudly in distress, circling Cas's body with his fur fluffed up in fear.
"Cas?" Halm said, concerned when he heard Cas trip. When he heard Nix yowling, he was more fearful, coming out of the kitchen.
"Oh, shit," he said softly to himself. His eyes widened, and he hurried over.
"Don't get near the water," he warned Nix quickly. He carefully knelt down, picking Cas's body up. Of course, his soul didn't come with it. His soul, now, was stretched out, the same size and shape as his body had been. Cas, the conscious, was in control now too, the soul itself on the back burner.
"Cas," Halm said softly, sadly. He set the body aside, carefully helping Cas up. He was light, airy. As if he would float away any moment.
Nix was still yowling at the top of his lungs, clearly very distressed. Cas seemed confused, naturally, and looked up at Halm. "Nngh… what happened?" He asked. He looked down at himself and froze, realizing that he no longer had a body. His gaze shifted between the water and his body laying on the floor. "Shit…"
Halm sighed a little.
"I'm sorry, this is all my fault. I forgot to put the can up last night. I'm so sorry." Still, he didn't seem extremely distressed like Nix. He knew everything would be able to go back to normal soon. Cas wasn't going anywhere is he didn't want to. Halm carefully stood, stepping over the water to Nix.
"Am… am I dead…?" Cas asked weakly, seeming nervous. Nix still hadn't stopped his distressed yowling. "Like… permanently?"
"Technically… Yes, on both accounts." Halm bent down, picking Nix up gently and holding him close to Cas. It'd be near impossible for Cas to hold him in his current state.
"But in a couple hours, you'll be back in a body." Halm carried both to the living room, setting them both down gently on the couch.
"I need to go clean the water up," he said softly.
Cas whimpered quietly and looked over at Nix, who was pawing at him anxiously. "C-Can I just go back to my body?" He asked weakly. "I… I-I don't really want a new one…"
Nix's paw gently bounced against Cas now, like a some kind of pillow.
"You can," Halm said gently, cupping Cas's head, "but we're going to have to go see one of the other gods about it. This isn't in my domain of power." Halm stepped back now, going back out to the hall. He grabbed a cloth, carefully getting up the water to make sure there was no way Nix could accidently step in any. He picked Cas's body up too. The cloths would have to air dry. He carried the body into the living room, setting it down carefully.
"Don't touch," he said gently, to both Nix and Cas. "There's still water on it. That'll have to dry up."
Cas nodded a bit. He seemed shaky and scared and definitely in shock. He was dead and he wasn't sure how to feel about it. Nix was also distressed because he couldn't calm Cas down. He typically had to lay on Cas or be held to effectively relax Cas, but neither of those was an option at the moment. "When… w-when can we go talk to them?"
"In just a moment." Halm came back over to Cas, cupping his cheek lightly "Everything is going to be okay," he said softly. Halm carefully bundled Cas up in his arms. He picked Nix up as well, holding him close to Cas again. He moved slowly, keeping Cas so very close to him. He picked Cas's body up as well in his other arm.
"You're going to be okay," he murmured quietly again.
Cas stared at his limp body, his eyes wide with terror. Nix tried to stay as close to him as possible. Cas whimpered shakily and buried his face in Halm's chest.
Halm rested his head against Cas's, the only way he could hold Cas right now. He made his way out of the house.
"Nix," he said gently, "When we get there I ask that you take on a human form. You're going to have to hold Cas for a bit for me while I get things situated with the other God."
Nix nodded a bit in understanding, still sticking very close to Cas. Cas's soul was quivering in fear, trying to avoid seeing his body again.
Cas's body was already getting cold. Not good. Halm stepped into the shadow of the house again. They reappeared in a dark room. Halm knelt down, setting the body down gently. He lifted Nix out of his arm, touching his cheek and turning him human. He carefully slid Cas into Nix's arms.
"It's going to be okay," Halm said one more time. He picked the body up, leaving the room. It was dark, but light enough to make out the furniture in the room.
Nix held Cas close, sighing sadly. He followed after Halm quietly, trying to keep up as best as he could. "How far is it? Is he going to be okay? Have I failed him?" Nix asked weakly.
"Cas is going to be okay," Halm said gently. "You haven't failed him. And the other God should be just up here." Halm put one arm around Nix, trying to reassure him. Halm stepped up to one of the doors in the hall they were in, knocking before he entered.
"Marcos," he said. "I need your assistance with something." The Moon God looked up at Halm and the two boys.
"I see," he said, assessing the situation.
Nix eyed Marcos warily, holding Cas closer to himself. Cas was still shaking and keeping his face hidden, terrified of literally everything at the moment. Nix stuck close to Halm just in case.
Halm gently put this hand on Nix's head. Marcos motioned for the body, which Halm have over easily. He obviously trusted Marcos. Marcos left the room, motioning for Halm and Nix to follow. Halm put his arm around Nix and Cas, leading them after Marcos. Marcie brought them to… A roman style bath room. Marcos didn't hesitate, stepping into the water with Cas's body.
"Cas," Halm said gently, reaching out to try to gently take him from Nix.
Nix clearly doesn't trust Marcos, but after some coaxing, eventually allowed Halm to take Cas's soul from him. He stuck close to Halm, trembling slightly with anxiety while he waited. Cas himself yelped and froze up at the sight of the water, clearly wanting nothing to do with it.
"Everything is going to be okay," Halm said, to both of them. He wrapped both arms around Cas, wanting to comfort him, but he still started towards the water, stepping in. He put his hand on Cas's head, being gentle. Marcos motioned for Halm to hand Cas over, however.
"Is there no way for me to hold him?" He asked softly.
"Just his head," Marcos said. The other god was being almost cold about this. He saw no rush.
Nix whined worriedly as he watched, not sure what to do. Cas was still terrified, trying to get out of the water to no avail. He was panicking now, and Nix couldn't go in and help him, which was terribly stressful for everyone involved.
"Cas, Cas, please," Halm begged, "this is what we need to do. If you don't stop…" Halm trailed off.
"I'll be knocking you unconscious," Marcos finished. He let Cas's body float in the water, reaching out to grab Cas from Halm. Halm glanced up at Nix. He was so sorry about all of this.
Cas reluctantly stopped struggling, but he was still shaking violently. Nix was pale and shaky himself, but there was nothing he could do but watch in terror.
(I just saw that it's your birthday soon. there will be presents!!!!!)
Halm held Cas close a moment more, then carefully handed him to Marcos. Halm made his way over, gently cupping Cas's head in his hands.
"Just focus on me, okay?" He said softly, bent low to be closer to Cas. Marcos laid Cas down on top of his body, taking Cas's leg in his hand.
"Hold him steady," Marcos instructed. "Don't let him lash out. And keep an eye on the other one." With that, Marcos pushed Cas's one leg back into his body. It would be excruciating, like he was being torn apart and sewn back together slowly.
(Aa thank you!)
Cas screamed in agony, trying to get away but unable to move. Nix wailed in distress, shaking harder. He knew he wasn't allowed in the water, but he felt like such a horrible protector for just watching Cas suffer like this. His eyes stung with tears and he started hyperventilating.
