"Not always. Only when I have other things I need to do." He replied simply, shrugging his shoulders.
"Not always. Only when I have other things I need to do." He replied simply, shrugging his shoulders.
Elissa couldn’t exactly blame him for that. It wasn’t like killing every person himself was more humane. She was running out of reasons to think he was evil, and she wasn’t sure how she felt about that. “Huh, well that makes sense…”
Dmitri shrugged a little bit. "Yes." He replied simply. "Any other questions?" He asked, arching his eyebrows.
Elissa pursed her lips, annoyed that she was running out of things to ask him. “I guess not.”
Dmitri nodded. "Alright then." he replied, stretching and letting out a breath.
Elissa sat there in silence for a moment. She never expected to be having an awkward moment with Dmitri. If anything, she had expected him to kill her.
Dmitri looked around the cell for a moment, thinking.
Elissa glanced at him for a moment before looking away. Why couldn’t she think of anything to say? “So, how old are you?” she asked awkwardly, though she was a bit curious. He was a feared criminal but he hardly looked older than she did herself.
"Twenty." he replied simply, looking at her again. His blue eyes were the same color as ice, his hair a blonde so pale it was nearly white. That black glove still covered one hand.
“Oh,” she said, blinking. He was scarcely a year older than her. Noticing that he looked young and actually knowing how close their ages were were two different things. “I’m nineteen.”
He nodded a little. "That's what I was guessing. Around there, anyway." he replied, running his right hand through his hair.
Elissa nodded absently. “People used to think I was a lot younger than I actually was, in high school,” she added by way of conversation.
He nodded. "that must have been terrible." He replied, shaking his head slightly.
Elissa laughed. "Sometimes, but it meant I could get away with more," she responded. She wasn't sure if he was mocking her or not.
He hadn't meant it as mockery, even if it had seemed like that. "That is true." he replied.
“They always said it’d be great when I’m older,” she added lightly. “So I better look younger than I am later in life.” She laughed.
"Yeah, well. If ya live that long, it definitely will be." he leaned against the wall, looking at her. His words weren't meant as a threat, though he realized after he spoke that they could be taken that way.
Elissa blinked, glancing over at him. “If I live that long?” she echoed. “I didn’t think you were doing threats right now.”
He blinked. "I did not mean it as a threat. My apologies." he replied, looking at her and cocking his head a little bit.
He was kind of strange, though Elissa couldn’t really say that surprised her. “Oh, well, good.”
He nodded a little. "I only meant it as a fact. If you live that long, it may be a blessing."
Elissa shrugged, made a bit uneasy by the remark. “Okay, I hope you’re right about that.”
He ran a hand through his hair for a moment.
“My grandmother always said that I took after her,” Elissa added, trying not to let them lapse into silence.
He looked at her, raising his eyebrows a little. "Ah. I suppose I can see the resemblance."
Elissa nodded. “She said things like that all the time,” she said quietly, realizing this might not have been the best conversation topic. Her eyes began to sting without any warning, tears threatening to spill again.
Dmitri didn't know what to say to comfort her, shifting a little bit and looking away.
“Anyway, um, it’s kind of weird, because I barely look like my dad,” Elissa added awkwardly, trying too hard to make her voice light.
He nodded a little bit. "Not necessarily a bad thing, I think." He replied with a shrug, looking at her.
Elissa laughed. “I don’t think so,” she agreed, the pressure in her eyes subsiding gradually.
