Jude hummed, letting his eyes roam around the towering arrangments of bones, reading the staggeringly long names of some of them as he walked by the boards of information. He smiled at the sight of a museum tour guide leading a line of preschoolers to a far exhibit, the uniformed children hand-in-hand as they hurried along in excitement.
Nyx kept looking around with that wide-eyed, childlike wonder, holding onto Jude's hand.
"Hmm–" Jude sounded, smiling as he raised his eyebrows at the group of huge dinosaur skeletons in the middle of the room, his gaze travelling along the towering figures, "I think that's a t-rex right there."
"Ooh!" Nyx pulled him over to the figured excitedly, staring up at them with his blue eyes sparkling.
"Mhmm, wouldn't want that roamin' around," Jude said with a soft laugh, looking up at the seemingly menacing skeleton, "Nope."
Nyx grinned, and brought his hands up to his face to make fake fangs out of his fingers, giving Jude a playful growl.
Jude let out a soft laugh at Nyx's impersonation of a t-rex, shaking his head as he glanced up at its giant skull. "Yeah, not in my city. That would be a disaster," He said, smiling as he turned back to Nyx with eyes alight, "–But remind me to show you Jurassic Park, okay? 's a dinosaur movie."
Nyx's eyes lit up. "Ooh! I wanna see it;" he said happily, dropping his hands back down to his sides and smiling.
"Mm, you do?" Jude smiled, raising his eyebrows in quiet delight as he thought of the giddy fright of watching Jurassic Park for the first time as a child, briefly looking back at the towering displays of bones, "Steven Spielberg movies were my favourite, growing up. He's directed so many classics, it's ridiculous."
( hii :) so, i'm going on a trip for a bit, leaving a little later in the day ?tomorrow. im taking my phone just in case, but probably not gonna be active, so yeah. might be on tomorrow, but if not, see you in a few ? :)
(alright! That's fine, don't worry about it. Have fun!)
Nyx nodded excitedly. "Mhm!" he replied, bouncing on his toes a little as he looked around the museum.
Jude hummed, smiling as his gaze travelled over the long and towering displays and glancing curiously into glass-enclosed features of fossilized bones and shells. "It's still weird to think about," He said after a moment, "–That these things were just living and roaming around, until they just…died."
Nyx shrugged. "Well, everybody dies." he said, looking up at Jude uncertainly. "So.." he looke around at the skeletons again.
"Yeah, that's true," Jude said, nodding softly as he trailed a finger along the boards of information, "But isn't it a bit sad? They don't exist outside of what's left of them, here."
"Oh. Well, yeah." He said slowly, cocking his head at Jude. "I just…I don't know."
Jude shrugged, looking up at the tall displays. "I dunno. Just a thought," He said, smiling as they made their way past exhibits, "What do you think about em?"
Nyx shrugged. "They're…I don't know. I like them." he replied with a soft smile, looking up at Jude.
"Oh yeah?" Jude prompted, smiling as he pressed a brief kiss on Nyx's cheek, eager to hear what he thought, "What d'you like about them? It's the sheer size of them for me. The few right here could trample a bodega without a second thought."
Nyx shrugged. "I don't know. They're just…interesting, I guess." he replied, smiling as he looked over at Jude. He leaned his head on Jude's shoulder.
"Mhm, they are," Jude smiled, reflexively letting his arm slide around Nyx's waist as they walked through the museum, "And you were pretty excited to be here." He nodded at a group of schoolchildren grinning up at a tall display, "You looked like them; it was cute."
Nyx wrinkled his nose. "But I'm bigger than them." he pointed out. "And I'm not…I'm not a child, either." he frowned faintly, looking up at Jude.
Jude let out a soft laugh, smiling as he shook his head. "No– I meant your face," He said, pressing a soft kiss on Nyx's cheek, "You smile real wide, it's sweet." He thought of the field, the zoo, The Met, and all the smiles that had followed. "Like whatever your smiling at is this great and wonderful thing."
"Oh." He replied. "Well–" he shrugged his shoulders faintly, glancing at Jude for a moment, unsure what to say.
Jude shrugged, smiling as he glanced at a wide display of fossils, "I dunno. You have nice smile, is all I'm sayin'" He said, looking down a little shyly.
Nyx shrugged a little again, ducking his head to hide his smile. "Oh. Okay." he said, pressing a kiss to Jude's cheek.
Jude, smiled, playfully rolling his eyes as he turned to glance at an exhibit, "C'mon, what else d'you wanna see?" He asked, nodding at an iconed map of the museum, "More dinosaurs or something else?"
Nyx hummed quietly. "I wanna see everything." he replied, looking over at Jude with wide, excited eyes. "Please? If we have time?"
Jude took his phone out of his pocket, noticing a few excited-looking texts from his friends as he checked the time. "Yeah, we got time," He nodded, glancing back at the map, "You wanna go through the….Planetary Science Hall, or The Environmental Hall first?"
"Ooh…I don't know." He said, looking up at Jude. "Which do you think we should do?" He asked, leaning into Jude's shoulder.
"Mm, you always make me choose," Jude playfully remarked, his gaze travelling over the wide expanse of the museum grounds. Different exhibit halls were scattered in a few main groups, and he narrowed his eyes at the one closest to them, "How 'bout the planet one? They've got lots of meteors and stuff about crystals."
