Arowen sat in the corner of the cafeteria, on a table where no one else sat. She was engrossed in reading. But what she was reading was… interesting. She was reading a textbook, turning the pages and eating up the content as if it was pure gold. She didn't even look at anyone else.
Unfortunately for Arowen, her table was the only one with no other people, and she was someone Sebastian has talked to. He sat down on the other side, diagonal from her and giving her as much space as possible. His familiar sat on his head, tail flicking at his nose occasionally. He glanced over at what she was reading, raising an eye eyebrow a little bit saying nothing. There must have been a reason she was in college, and it seemed it could very well be her having a thirst for knowledge. Sebastian has nothing against that, so he said nothing.
Arowen felt the familiar pulse of power, and looked up when someone sat at her table. She raised an eyebrow. “I hope you’re not going to follow me around just because Intalked to you.” She slammed the textbook shut. The title was Weapons and Their Levels. “Do you need something?”
"Just a place to sit alone. It has nothing to do with you." Sebastian made no move to continue the conversation, turning to his food.
"There are other places," she said, rolling her eyes. "That aren't in this room. The courtyard, for instance. The dorms. The road. You could literally eat anywhere else, but you had to choose over here."
"I wanted to stay in the cafeteria," Sebastian countered. "Because I'm going to get food several more times. I need to eat a lot. And this table is the least crowded." Sebastian leaned back a little, his familiar yawning.
Arowen rolled her eyes. "Fine. Whatever you say. After all, people are dangerous, and you should never be around them." She pulled her food closer to her and opened the book back up.
Sebastian had been ignoring Arowen by this point, eating his food. People were dangerous, but so was he. He ate quickly, getting up and leaving. Just like he had said, he soon came back with another plate of food.
(What if there's a note in the book about a mysterious weapon that appeared to a boy that had never been seen before and the boy refused to explain it?)
(Ooh, sure!)
(Also, I feel like there should be some point soon when both of them have to show their "trump cards.")
Arowen continued to scan the book. There was nothing, so far, that showed even the trace of a clue about the weapon of the man in front of her.
Then she saw it.
The only trace of a Red level weapon since the Great War four centuries ago was shown recently. A few years ago, a boy had his weapon power tested for Level Red. He refused to explain what the weapon was, and refused to give his name. He since vanished, and no trace has been found again.
There! That sounded about right. She looked up at Sebastian as he returned. "What's your weapon?" She asked him.
(definitely. It will be interesting)
Sebastian looked up when Arowen addressed him.
"It's nothing special," he said, not actually answering her. "It isn't that high level."
Liar, his familiar whispered in his ear, but stayed quiet after that.
"Why?"
(Now we just need to figure out what… maybe an attack on the school?)
"I… see." She sounded skeptical. He had a level 10 power. She hadn't ever seen that before. No one, no one, was this powerful. His familiar wasn't that powerful, she could tell. So it must be his weapon. He must be the guy that was written about in the Red section.
"No reason."
(oo, good idea!)
"Okay then." Sebastian shrugged a little, returning to his food. If Arowen asked to see his weapon, they had a back up plan. He would just show up as a dagger, nothing fancy or too dangerous. Kept people from being suspicious.
(Okay!)
She pursed her lips and continued to read, looking for any information on the Red weapon… when the alarms started to ring.
Sebastian had just sat down with his third tray of food when the alarms went off. He jumped back to his feet, looking around.
"What is that?" He asked, not sure what the alarm was for.
"The alarm." Arowen had already summoned her dagger. There was no way she was letting her familiar out until she knew how bad it was. "The school is under attack. Why, how, I don't know." She followed the stream of students outside.
Sebastian summoned his weapon as well, making sure he was a dagger as well. The threat was unknown at this time, so there was no need for them to blow their cover. He made his way outside, following the crowd for the most part.
A group of masked and robed people, each with a level orange weapon or familiar, at least, surrounded the school. "Submit, headmaster," one of them said, his voice projected to echo throughout the area. "And you might live. No matter how many Oranges you have. You are outnumbered one hundred to one. You will never escape."
Arowen scowled. Things like this happened a lot, but this was the first time they had brought reinforcements. A gas started to pour from little bombs that the people threw, and students collapsed when they breathed it in. She recognized this gas. It was a type of sleeping draft, designed to knock out anyone below the Orange level. This really was serious, then.
Shit. This was bad. Too many students were dropping, and more importantly this was blowing Sebastian's cover. He slept moved away from Arowen, hoping she didn't see him not collapsing. He gripped his weapon tightly. They might actually have to fight, and that was bad.
Only about three other people were standing, including Sebastian, the new guy, which Arowen wasn't surprised about.
"Never!" The headmaster called wearily. "I know what you want. And you're not getting it."
"Then we will attack." The robed figures summoned their weapons and familiars and started to attack the building.
Double shit. They were going to have to fight. Sebastian turned to the closest enemy, throwing his dagger. Halfway there, it transformed into a man, about the same age as Sebastian. On his arm was a strange contraption, a shield gauntlet with spikes coming out at several points. He stabbed the man, killing him, before dashing back to Sebastian for orders.
"I guess I'll have to protect this shitty school." Arowen was about to summon her familiar, and then she gaped. His weapon… what was it? A sword? A man? A… what? It was powerful, felt powerful, felt unbeatable.
But he couldn't deal with these people alone.
Come out.
Her familiar burst into the air, flying into the sky, from wherever familiars lived in their spare time. He roared and spat crimson flame.
Sebastian looked up to the sky, seeing the dragon. Seemed like he wasn't the only one keeping secrets. He glanced over at Arowen once before turning back to the fight. They could talk later, if at all.
"Let's go," he said calmly. With that, the man started to dart about from robbed figure to robbed figure, killing them easily. Still, it was slow.
"You're just showing off," Arowen called to her familiar, tone slightly annoyed. She ignored Sebastian.
Her familiar sent her a look of irritation, and swept his tail into the oncoming figures, knocking 6 of them into a wall, where they fell and didn't rise.
"Thank you."
She wasn't good in close combat, so she chose to stay at the sidelines. She could defend herself, sure, but not as well as her familiar.
Sebastian was standing at the sidelines too. He never really fought-his weapon took care of everything. He crossed his arms, watching patiently as his weapon and Arowen's familiar started to decimate the enemy's ranks. It wasn't very hard for them; both were Red, and even Orange's couldn't stand up to them.
There was death on the robed figures sides. Arowen sat on the ring of stone that made up a short wall and watched as the others were killed. Soon, there were piles of robed corpses, and none of them moved.
Eventually, Sebastian's weapon stopped when he saw no more enemies left standing. He made his way back to Sebastian, still calm and collected.
"Good job Farthing," Sebastian said, holding his hand out. The man, Farthing, nodded, turning into a dagger and landing in Sebastian's palm. Sebastian sat about cleaning all the blood off the weapon.
"Eris, get over here."
Her black familiar landed in front of her, making a face, as much as dragons can. I don't see why you have to be so pushy, he grumbled.
"Shut up and get back into your space."
Sebastian made his way over when he heard how Arowen talked to Eris, disapproving of it.
"Why do you have to be like that?" He asked.
"Because I can." Arowen sounded annoyed.
Eris gave off a pulse of amusement and vanished. She sighed, rolling her eyes, and turned to Sebastian. "We should probably get the unconscious students inside before they wake up on the ground."
"Okay then," Sebastian said. He himself even treated his weapon with respect, because he was alive still. How could Arowen treat her familiar that way? He flipped his dagger in the air, and Farthing appeared again. Together, the two men set about grabbing students, pulling them inside.
