Bucky smiled a little. "It wasn't. You're just a coward." He teased, looking over at Steve with a faint smirk on his face.
Steve rolled his eyes, smiling as he shook his head, "Oh what, so the serum just happened to leave out this one fear of mine?" He prompted, raising his eyebrows, "That's convenient. But also– I still rode it! Back in 'thirty eight and just then."
Bucky laughed. "Precisely." He replied, smirking a little as he looked at Steve.
"So–" Steve said with a firm nod, smiling over at Bucky as the elevator moved up, "–Not a coward. I still rode it, even if it was awful, or a little less awful then last time."
"Hmmm. True." Bucky squinted thoughtfully. "Still, though. You're a little bit of a coward." He chuckled.
"Oh yeah?" Steve smiled, playfully raising an eyebrow at his remark, "You've scolded me for never turning away from a fight, so, care to elaborate?"
"You don't like rollercoasters." He pointed out. "And you didn't tell me how you felt for…like, 90 years, so you're at least a little bit of a coward."
Steve smiled as he rolled his eyes again, pressing the button to close the elevator doors when they began to open. "Don't forget, Bucky; you didn't tell me how you felt for 'like…ninety years' so you would be a coward then, too," He said, tilting his head to the side accusingly.
"Well, in my defense…" He trailed off, thinking. "In my defense, I did get captured by HYDRA before you even knew they existed."
Steve hummed, playfully narrowing his eyes at Bucky. "Well in my defense, I thought you were gone, so…subtract like, seventy from the ninety years."
"No no no, I mean the first time." Bucky said with a frown. "During the war. When you rescued me and the other guys?" He hesitated. "Or…am I just remembering wrong?"
"I remember," Steve softly nodded, promptly remembering Bucky's glassy and sedated gaze as he tried to get him out of there, "I really should've told you after that. Getting you back really kinda…slapped me in the face with the fact that I never said anything. And I don't have an excuse for not coming clean."
Bucky hummed faintly. "Yeah." he said. He didn't really remember much, but he remembered bits and pieces. He remembered being really confused, but not much else.
Steve smiled, shyly looking down for a moment before his gaze returned to Bucky. "Hm, anyways," He said, pressing the button to open the doors, "You know how I feel now, and that's enough for me to be happy about."
Bucky nodded a little. "Mm." He replied faintly, smiling a little as he met Steve's gaze. "I guess that's true."
Steve smiled, nodding out the doors as he let out a soft sigh. "It is true," He said as he stepped out into the hall. With Bucky's hand in his, he could hardly think of anything that would make him feel happier.
Bucky smiled a little. "I know." He replied softly, looking up at Steve for a moment, then forward at the hallway.
"Hm, well anyways, I had a great time tonight," Steve said, smiling over at Bucky as they walked down the hall to their rooms, "I'm really glad we went back there together, even if the Cyclone shook me up."
Bucky nodded, smiling. "Yeah. I don't understand why you find the Cyclone so terrifying, but I suppose to each his own."
"It's just–" Steve said with a smile, trying to use his hands to explain as he gestured incoherently, "–Like, unstable looking. It feels unstable, too."
He shook his head. "It isn't, though." he countered, looking at Steve and fighting a smile. "It's perfectly stable."
"Oh well sure, everyone thinks that….until something happens and it isn't," Stev said, playfully narrowing his eyes as he smiled at Bucky, "They've barely touched it since the forties, so I'm also gonna pepper in a reminder of what time does to things. Putting aside our case."
Bucky wrinkled his nose a little bit. "How do you know they haven't touched it, hmm?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Hmm," Steve smiled, folding his arms as he leaned back on a wall, "I believe they haven't really…renovated it. Could be because it's wooden– also because it's kind of a landmark. It looked and felt the same, at least to me."
Bucky shrugged. "I'm sure they've kept up with repairs, Steve." He pointed out.
"Hopefully," Steve replied, his smile growing wider as he looked at Bucky and realized something.
Bucky raised his eyebrows a little. "I'm sure they have, Steve."
"Fine," Steve said with a soft laugh, quietly noting how he'd forgotten about HYDRA and everything that happened for a short moment, "I'll take your word for it, you jerk."
Bucky shook his head. "Punk." He retorted with a quiet laugh, smiling at Steve softly.
Steve smiled, letting out a soft sigh before his eyes flickered to Bucky's mouth for just a moment. "You're the punk," He said with a cheeky laugh, "I'm the one being cautious."
