Charlie tried to make herself smile through the nervous energy coursing through her. She opened the door, waiting for August to step into the hall.

August followed after Charlie, walking into the hall. He reached out, giving her hand a quick squeeze.

Olive stepped inside, trying to make sure she wasn't seen.

Charlie squeezed August's hand back as they walked down a flight of stairs into the main room of the castle. Nobles, lords and princesses were scattered all across the marble floor, dancing, eating or laughing. Good posture, chin up. Confidence, Charlie. Her father's voice played in her mind as she ascended the steps next to August. Her olive green eyes were even brighter next to the embroidered leaves on her mask as she glanced over people quickly. There were so many important people. She felt so out of place.

August’s dark eyes scanned the crowds, anxiety building on his chest. He snapped his fingers to get Charlie’s attention before signing. ‘Are you intimidated too?’

Noa noticed the two walk in and slipped over quickly, wincing at a new bruise she’d gotten. “Hey,” she said to Charlie while also signing.

Charlie nodded as she glanced at August. 'We're the talk of the night, after all.' She signed back as she looked around the room once again.

Chakuro spotted Charlie in the crowd with her brother. Heart beating, he retreated to the back of the throne, wings comically sticking out from the throne's sides.

August was about to respond when he noticed Noa. A grin formed on his lips and he nodded quickly, giving Noa a thumbs up. “Just basics,” he said aloud.

She smiled. “Yeah, just a few basics. Also, I think Chakuro might be hiding from you. He was fine three minutes ago,” she said, pointing at the wings sticking out from behind the throne.

"August is the best teacher I know." Charlie smiled, glancing away and looking around the room for any of the other twins. So far it was just them.

"Hiding from me?" Charlie asked, raising a brow as she looked back at Noa, noticing the wings poking out from behind the overly jeweled throne. All of that gold could feed the cities for years.

"Gah." He heard Noa's voice, talking to Charlie. Freaking out, Chakuro decided to creep out from the other side. Damn these rich people. Turning up in crowds when you don't need them and barely around when you need them to hide.

“He was fine three minutes ago,” she repeated. “I see you walk in, I come over, and then he’s behind the throne.”

Genie turned to Gabby, "Let's go to the ball!"

Gabby nodded, sliding her mask down her face. "Let's go."

August chuckled and shook his head, looking over in the direction of the throne. ‘This is the man you like?’ He signed quickly to Charlie with a teasing smile.

"He probably just got sick of the nobles." Charlie explained, her finger fidgeting with the edge of her mask. He couldn't have possibly left because of her.

'I don't like him.' Charlie signed back, scowling as a slow blush crept along her cheeks. She thanked the gods for the mask she was wearing.

The pair walked into the ballroom masks on faces. Genie saw Charlie and dragged Gabby and herself towards the girl.

Face burning red, Chakuro pulled at his collar, sweating. Damn it, damn it, damn it. Throwing on a smile, he emerged from the back of the throne with his wings fluttering ever so slightly. His horns weighed on his head even more than usual as he approached Charlie and tried to say something.

Olive fidgeted with her mask, freezing the edges a little.

"He probably just got sick of the nobles." Charlie explained, her finger fidgeting with the edge of her mask. He couldn't have possibly left because of her.

“Not probable,” she said, glancing at Chakuro as he approached. “Should I leave?”

Gabby tried to keep up with Genie's longer strides. Her mask was a little big, so she had to hold it up.

August glanced at Charlie and the approaching king. He gave a nod, stepping over to Noa. “I’ll come with,” He said, signing as he did so.
