“I was thinking the same thing.” Melissa smiled, kissing his forehead gently. “I- I just still can’t believe it. It feels so surreal to me.”
“I was thinking the same thing.” Melissa smiled, kissing his forehead gently. “I- I just still can’t believe it. It feels so surreal to me.”
Lucas nodded and gently returned the kiss. "Let's just sit back down, yeah?" He took her by the hand and sat down on the couch.
Sitting down besides him, she leaned over to rest her head on his shoulder. “Did you finish the drawing?”
"Almost, I think…" Lucas picked up his sketchbook and opened it up to the page he'd been drawing on.
Scanning it over, she smiled softly with a sigh. "It looks peaceful… I think it's perfect." Melissa whispered to him, kissing his cheek.
Lucas smiled softly. "Thanks…" He started adding a few more details.
Melissa sat up, and slid back so she was leaning on the arm of the couch. It wasn't that she was tired of watching him, more the fact that she was just tired. "Sure thing, Lu." She hummed, before curling up on the cushion.
Lucas was too focused on drawing to notice. He started humming to himself again and soon flipped to a new page.
When she heard the pages rusting, she lifted her head to see what he was doing. She didn't ask, just watched in silence. Though her curiosity was getting the better of her.
He started drawing the sunflower field this time, again with Melissa and himself in it.
With her peeking interest, she peered over his shoulder. "What are you drawing, now?" She asked softly, yawning a bit.
"Sunflowers… the field by my house…" He replied softly, still very focused.
Melissa nodded gently, and sat back. She didn't want to disrupt his concentration. Lucas was too relaxed to let it pass by. "Well, once it's finished, I'd love to see it." She told him softly before laying back down.
"Mhmm…" Lucas kept drawing, adding in details as he went. He stayed quiet for a while, content to just keep to himself for the moment.
While he did so, Melissa found the sound of his pencil on paper super relaxing. She wasn't asleep, not yet at least, but she was feeling like she should. It wasn't even that late, yet she was half asleep.
Lucas wasn't actually tired at the moment. He tended to get into a sort of zone when he was drawing and he could be at it for hours, even late into the night. He continued drawing, occasionally humming to himself in thought.
'You need to stay up… you need to make sure he goes to bed, at some point.' She told herself, as she started to nod off. Now wasn't the time to sleep. If he needed her, she knew he would feel bad about trying to wake her up. So she just wouldn't sleep, for a little while at least. It'd be fine.
Lucas sketched in the centers of the sunflowers, completely oblivious to what Melissa was thinking at the moment. He didn't seem to be super aware of his surroundings in general.
While he was drawing, she pushed herself up off the couch. "I'm gonna grab a book. I'll be right back." Melissa told him softly, walking pass him as she headed upstairs. It would help to distract her.
Lucas nodded absently, now adding petals to all the flowers he'd drawn.
Once she had made it up the stairs, she pushed her door open and walked up to the small bookshelf at the end of her bed. Pulling off the first book she saw, she stopped in her tracks when she glanced at herself in the mirror. "Right, I should change first." She mumbled, setting the book aside so she could.
Lucas was still drawing when Melissa returned. He hadn't gotten too much further, but he'd made some progress.
Glancing at the time, she noted that it really wasn't late. Only about six o'clock. "Can I get you anything, Lu?" Melissa asked him softly, setting her book and phone on the coffee table.
"Hmm…?" Lucas glanced up at Melissa. "No, m'alright…" He turned back to his drawing, humming softly to himself.
There was no point in trying to talk to him, he was distracted. So curling up next to him, she sighed softly and watched him for a few minutes in silence.
Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder while he continued drawing. "I love you…" He murmured softly.
Melissa shifted her gaze on to him, and smiled softly. "I love you too… you still feeling alright?" She asked him gently, resting her hand on his forearm.
"Mhmm… I'm drawing the sunflowers." He tilted his sketchbook to show Melissa.
"They're pretty." Melissa said softly, gently running her hand up and down his arm. "I honestly don't understand how you're so talented."
Lucas flushed a bit and smiled sheepishly. "I've been doing it for years, and obviously kind of a coping mechanism, so I do it often…"
