Melissa kept a gentle smile up. “Well, it’s worth a shot. Even if it’s only for a little bit. A little sleep is better than none, in my opinion.”
Melissa kept a gentle smile up. “Well, it’s worth a shot. Even if it’s only for a little bit. A little sleep is better than none, in my opinion.”
"I guess so." Lucas sighed softly. "When do you think the pizza will get here…?"
Shrugging a bit, she glanced at the wall clock. "We've been sitting here for like ten minutes. It's probably not too much longer."
Lucas nodded a bit. "Okay… I… um… guess we just wait now?" He suggested awkwardly.
“I mean, we can come up with something to do…” Melissa hummed, leaning forward to rest her head on his shoulder. “I’ve never seen you draw in person before.”
Lucas flushed lightly and nodded again. "Um… y-yeah, I can… I can do that if you want me to…"
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to see… I don’t want to put you on the spot though.” Melissa whispered, pulling back just a bit.
"I-I mean, I don't know what exactly to draw, but, um… you can request something, I guess…?"
“Seriously, you don’t have to. But I mean, if you were up for it, you could draw the clearing… and or something Else that makes you happy.” Melissa offered, sighing a little bit.
Lucas nodded. "Yeah, um… I can try to…" He said softly, fidgeting a bit. After a couple seconds, he pulled his sketchbook and a very beat up looking pencil out of his bag.
When he did, she smiled a little bit and pulled back to give him space. "This is only if you want to. I don't want to make you do anything."
"No, no, it's okay…" Lucas flipped open the sketchbook to a clean page and hesitated before starting to sketch out the clearing.
Watching him in silence, Melissa slowly started to pet him while he drew. She was doing it more subconsciously than anything.
Lucas relaxed a little and continued drawing. He started with the willow tree, sketching out the long branches and a few details on the trunk.
Melissa found it calming to watch him draw, resting her chin on his shoulder. She didn't say it, but she could see on his face that he was relaxing.
After a few minutes, Lucas started humming softly to himself while he drew. He'd finished a basic willow tree and started sketching out the pond and the flowers that were strewn about the clearing.
His gentle humming was even more relaxing, and she found herself humming along with him. "You're really good at that…" Melissa whispered, pulling up a sweet smile.
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas flushed a bit as he continued. Once he seemed satisfied with the pond sketch, he started doodling himself and Melissa under the tree.
"Of course, Lu." Melissa hummed, smiling a little at the little sketch of themselves. She would have said more about it, but she didn't want to make him more flustered after he finally relaxed.
Once Lucas had gotten the basic sketch down, he started actually adding details to make it look more realistic. He obviously couldn't expect it to be perfect since he was just drawing from memory, but he wanted to be happy with it at least.
From what Melissa could tell, it looked practically perfect. It was only a drawing, but to her who couldn't, it looked picture perfect.
Lucas drew a couple other trees in the background and, once done with the main drawing, started adding little touches that weren't actually there. He doodled his old dog sitting with him and Melissa, and drew a few sunflowers around the clearing.
The little details made her smile more, before she started to get up from the couch. "I'm going to grab some water, do you need anything?" Melissa asked him, stretching out once she was standing.
Lucas shook his head, now engrossed in the drawing. He drew a couple koi fish in the pond despite the fact that none lived there.
She placed a soft kiss to the top of his head before ducking off into the kitchen. "He's too cute…" Melissa mumbled to herself, grabbing a glass from one of the cabinets.
Lucas was still drawing when Melissa returned, but had added a few butterflies and was now working on detailing the grass.
Sipping on the water, she set it on the coffee table. "It's still looking nice." Melissa hummed, glancing over at the door when she heard the door bell echo through the house. "And I think that's the pizza."
Lucas jumped at the sudden noise, jarred out of his calm state. He looked over at the door and sighed, his heart still pounding.
Melissa gave him a sympathetic smile, going to get the door. "I'm sorry that startled you. But it's just the door, nothing to worry about."
Lucas nodded, hesitating before returning to his drawing. He tapped one foot on the ground anxiously as he continued.
