”Why would you do that?” he asked in alarm, kneeling beside her and lifting her legs out of the water.

He sighed and shook his head slightly. ”Love, I'm going to need another explanation for that answer.” he said, almost apologeticly.

"Go back inside and leave me alone there's your answer" she said

”Betty, I came after you to apologize.” he said gently, placing his hand on top of hers. ”I didn't mean to upset you.”

"Please just leave" she said

”Don’t push me away.” he said softly, almost begging. ”I want to understand what’s wrong.”

”How do I treat you like a child? Just because I want to protect you? Because I don't want you to be hurt?” he asked, ignoring the centuries between them.

She looked at him with watery eyes

He smiled softly at her and pulled her close, hugging her.

She rested her head on his shoulder

He shifted a little so she was sitting in his lap as he held her.

"I'm hungry" she said

”Food or blood?” he asked softly.

"Food" she mumbled into his neck

”Ok.” he nodded, carefully picking her up and carrying her back to the house. ”Anything in particular?”

She shook her head

”I can make you some soup if you would like.” he offered

She nodded gently

”Ok.” he smiled, holding her close and kissing her cheek as he carried her.

She barried her face in his chest

He chuckled a little as the house came into view.
