'You've never tried avocado toast? Oh my, it is HEAVENLY, lemme tell you that.'
'You've never tried avocado toast? Oh my, it is HEAVENLY, lemme tell you that.'
"Really? Now I want avocado toast."
'Greatest food to grace the earth, other than Freddos and crumpets with nutella. Gosh, I'm so British.'
“Being British sounds nice. I don’t like American food that much, surprisingly.”
'Being British is okay. I like American sweets and snacks, like life savers and poptarts. Your cereal is 90% sugar, though,' chuckled Kieran.
"That's true." Jake laughed, "Everything is either really salty or really sweet."
'Here we are,' announced Kieran as they approached the shop. 'You first.'
Jake opened the door and stepped aside, "You first."
'Fine,' he mumbled before cautiously stepping inside. The lights were on, the shelves were full, yet no person behind the till. 'Hmm, that's strange. No one's here.'
“Maybe it is National-Stay-At-Home-Day?” Jake asked, he walked over to the fruits, “They’re still fresh.”
Kieran picked up a packet of Oreos. 'Untouched, perfectly neat piles… it's as if no one came here after they stocked up.'
“Kinda creepy.” Jake mumbled.
'Fuck that, I want a mutha-fuckin' oreo!' exclaimed Kieran, tearing open the packet. 'There's no chance this is poisoned, right? It's a shop.'
Jake glanced at the Oreos warily, “I’m assuming so.”
'I'll try it out. If I die, you'll know it's poisoned.' Kieran picked up an Oreo, and slowly took a bite from it. He savoured the beautiful flavour, but it was over in seconds. 'Man, that's the good shit.'
“I’m assuming it’s not poisoned.”
Kieran nodded and held out an Oreo to Jake. 'Oreo?'
“Thanks.” Jake grinned, taking the Oreo.
Looking around the shop, Kieran spotted something from the corner of his eye - an avocado.
'AVOCADOS!' he yelled, dropping the Oreos and running over to the avocados. 'YEAH BOYYYYYYYYYYYYY!'
Jake ate his Oreo and watched Kieran fanboy over avacodoes.
He grabbed an avocado, then hesitated. 'Wait…' He looked around the store. 'Don't think they sell knives at a small shop like this. And I don't think they got any toasters.' He gazed sadly at the avocado in his hand as he sat on the floor. 'My avocado toast plan is… ruined.'
“Aren’t there other stores?”
'The city's a bit far away…' he replied, standing up. He spotted a couple of bags. 'Let's not worry about avocado plans. We should probably take a bag full of food.'
“And water.” Jake said, nodding.
Kieran nodded, before grabbing an unsold backpack and throwing it at Jake's feet. 'Pack some water, nutritious food, stuff that'll last in the heat in a bag, maybe some other stuff we might need… you okay to do that?' He then looked over at the cash register curiously and had a sudden thought. 'Hmmm…' He put that thought to rest–the shop may have been abandoned, but it still might be someone's money.
“I’ll try, though I don’t have much common sense…” Jake said, picking the bag up and started walking around the aisles.
Kieran hummed in response, but the thought was still there. 'Jake… will we need any money?'
“I mean, maybe.” Jake said absentmindedly, taking a pack of cookies.
His eyes flickered back to the cash register. 'You-you reckon we should take some? No one's here…'
Jake paused, he looked at the cash register warily. “I-I mean…I..” The fight for integrity.
