Winter let out a breath, and kept working on the food, chewing on his lower lip a little bit.
Mycah waited for a few minutes, then started to hum again. A lullaby this time, one they remembered from their childhood. One of the few good things, as sad as it was.
He listened to Mycah, still working on the food, stirring it carefully. He tasted a little bit, but it wasn't ready yet.
Mycah looked at the food and smiled slightly. They could start to smell something good and couldn't wait to eat it. Hopefully, it would taste as good as it smelled.
Winter hoped that it would actually taste decent. It had been a long time since he had had to cook anything, and he was a little out of practice.
"How's it going?" Mycah asked when their latest song had ended. "Is the food close to being done?" They didn't mean to sound impatient or anything like that, but they were a bit hungry.
Winter looked over. "Just about. Can you get some dishes, please?" he replied, still stirring the food.
"Sure." Mycah nodded and walked to the cabinets. They opened the door and got out some dishes, placing them near Winter in case he needed to use them for serving dishes.
Winter let out a breath. "Should I just serve it between our plates, or would you prefer to serve yourself?"
"You can serve it," Mycah said. They didn't really care, and Winter was basically already doing it anyways. Them getting in the way would be just that: getting in the way.
He nodded a little bit, and served out the food onto their plates. "Here we go. Let's eat." he smiled softly at Mycah.
Mycah grabbed their plate and gave a thankful smile to Winter. "Do you want to eat here or at the official dining room table?" They asked, shifting the plate to their other hand.
Winter shrugged a little, picking up his plate. "Whatever you prefer." He replied, shooting Mycah a quick smile.
"Okay. Let's go in the dining room. It's always easier to eat at a table." Mycah decided, starting towards the table. And it had been a long time since they'd had a nice, sit-down meal. Mind as well make the most of the table while they still had it.
Winter nodded, and headed over to sit down. He cautiously tested the chair before sitting down, letting out a soft breath.
Mycah sat down in one of the seats they'd previously tested, glad that it was still trustable. That would have been a proper mess if the chair had collapsed under them.
Winter took a bite of his food. It tasted good, so he hadn't messed it up, thankfully. He let out a quiet sigh.
Mycah ate a bit of the food and sighed in satisfaction. It was good, and it was homemade, and they loved it. "This is really good, Winter," They said, giving him a smile.
Winter smiled back at Mycah. "Thanks." he replied, eating some more. "I was a bit worried, since I haven't had to cook for a while."
"Well, all your worries were for nothing. I can't tell you haven't cooked in a while. I only hope that gift is given to me when I attempt to make something," Mycah said, taking another few bites.
He laughed a little bit, smiling. "Well…I can try and teach you. I'm probably a shit teacher, but I can try." he replied with a shrug.
"Well, you have already made a good meal. If anything, I'll just pay more attention next time you make something." Mycah shrugged. "And trying can't hurt anyone too much."
Winter smiled a little, and nodded. "All you really need to be able to do is follow a recipe."
"I think I've got following instructions down rather well by now," Mycah said, a small but slightly melancholy smile on their face. "The trick is actually being able to do what the instructions tell you to, though I don't think I'm going to attempt any really fancy recipes."
Winter nodded a little bit. "Yeah. And neither am I. I'd probably fail, and then there goes our food supply." he took another bite.
"Yep," Mycah agreed, eating a bit more of the food. Eating a home-cooked meal with someone who wasn't terrible really was a very pleasant experience, and they were glad they got to take part in it again.
Winter kept eating, watching Mycah for a moment, then looking around the room. He was glad it had turned out well, since it meant that they both got to eat.
Mycah finished eating and set down their silverware with a small, satisfied sigh. "That was very enjoyable, Winter. Thank you." They gave him a slight smile.
Winter nodded. "Of course." he replied, finishing his own food and taking a deep breath. "Not a problem."
Mycah stood up and picked up their plate. "Hopefully the sink works enough to clean these off a bit," They sighed, walking slowly towards the kitchen.
