Bucky shook his head a little, laughing quietly to himself. "Alright, alright." he looked over at Steve again. "Now where are we going?"
Bucky shook his head a little, laughing quietly to himself. "Alright, alright." he looked over at Steve again. "Now where are we going?"
"Mmm, we could walk along the beach for a bit," Steve suggested, glancing at the distant waves under the early evening sky and to the blinking lights that lined the stands of carnival food. "Maybe go on a few rides, maybe grab a quick dinner?"
Bucky nodded a little bit. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." he replied with a faint smile, looking around the area for a moment.
Steve smiled, noting how much Bucky's overall demeanour differed when he'd found him limping in an alleyway to the present; a softened posture and easy smile instead of the trembling hands and wild eyes. "Sure," He said, letting out a soft sigh as they walked along the beach, "The other rollercoasters look a little more stable, which is good."
Bucky nodded a little. "We going to go on more, then?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. He still didn't remember everything but he was slowly remembering more, and that was all he really wanted.
Steve lightly shrugged. "Sure, if you like," He said, smiling as he looked down, kicking a pebble as they walked, "But we don't have to. Though– I think we oughta go on the Ferris wheel at some point."
Bucky nodded a little bit. "Alright. Whatever you'd prefer." He replied with a soft smile, looking up at the sky for a moment.
Steve nodded faintly, following Bucky's gaze to the sky. The clouds were hued with the faintest bit of orange, and the air was cool around them. "The sunset's gonna be nice," He pondered aloud, looking up at the sun just hinting towards the horizon.
Bucky nodded. "Yeah. Maybe we'll see it from the ferris wheel." he suggested, looking over at Steve with a soft, faint little smile.
"Yeah, maybe," Steve said, smiling shyly as he remembered his confession on the balcony the evening before, "You wanna get some dinner?"
Bucky nodded. "Yeah. You got a place in mind, or should we look around to find somewhere?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
Steve glanced over the few stands and smaller restaurants, blinking in surprise at the sight of a particular one. "Huh," He smiled, nodding at the sign that read 'Nathan's famous hotdogs', "That's still here."
Bucky looked over, snatches of faded memory floating through his head. "We've…been there. Right?" He asked slowly.
Steve turned to Bucky with a smile, nodding. "Yeah," He softly replied, "–Yeah, we've been there before. A few times, when we came here in the summer."
Bucky nodded a little bit, looking over at the building. "It's ancient now, isn't it?" He asked with a faint laugh.
Steve smiled, his gaze raking over the mix of modern and older aspects of the little restaurant. "Yeah," He said with a nod, "They've renovated it a bit, but a lot of the outside's the same."
He nodded a bit. "Yeah. I…remember a little bit of it. Not…a lot, but some."
"You do?" Steve said with a hopeful smile; even the smallest memories were progress for him. He thought of the sunny afternoons spent wandering down the boardwalk before coming there, laughing with their milkshakes under the shade of the umbrellas.
He nodded a little bit. "I do." He replied softly, shooting Steve a soft smile. "Just…not all the way, but…bits and pieces."
Steve nodded as he glanced back at the little restaurant. The thought of Bucky finding more happy memories of their time together brought a smile to his face. "That's great," He said, letting out a soft sigh, "Even if it's not a lot, it's good. Do you remember anything specific?"
Bucky nodded, then shrugged. "Not…not really. Nothing I can pin down, I don't think.' he replied softly, taking a deep breath.
"Hm, well, it's good that you remember this place, we had some good times," Steve said smiling fondly at the building for a moment, "It's still open, too. Wanna go?"
Bucky nodded. "Yeah. We can eat here, right? I mean now?" he asked curiously, looking at Steve carefully.
"Mhm. They're still serving people now, if that's what you mean," Steve said, nodding over at the outdoor seating area, where string lights that hung overhead and a few guests were dining.
"Nah, I meant because I'm hungry." He replied with a faint laugh. "but alright." He stretched a little.
"Hm, yeah, let's go get some dinner," Steve said with a nod, smiling at Bucky as he turned to walk towards the restaurant.
Bucky smiled back as he walked with Steve, flashes of memory still flickering through his head. Not much, but more than he had had previously.
Steve walked with Bucky to the little restaurant, noticing more and more details of the original design as they neared it. Striped umbrellas, white plastic chairs, a sliding window to take orders, neon sign; so much of it was still the same.
Bucky was quiet, looking around as more vague memories flashed through his head, reminding him of so many things he had forgotten.
Steve smiled as they walked up to the open service window that would take their orders. "What do you think?" He asked, smiling up at the menu, which had barely changed, "Hotdogs, milkshakes?"
