Lucas nodded a bit. His eyes were still closed. "I'm sure you'll be great at it, Mel…" He said quietly. "I'll come see you when it happens…"
Lucas nodded a bit. His eyes were still closed. "I'm sure you'll be great at it, Mel…" He said quietly. "I'll come see you when it happens…"
Leaning in just a bit, she pressed their foreheads together with a soft smile. "You don't have to, Lu. It's not that big of a deal."
"But I gotta… wanna come see you perform, Mel…" Lucas sighed softly. "Important to you, important to me…"
"You're still sleepy…" Melissa smiled pecking his lips. "But you won't go to sleep… because of nightmares, right?" She asked him, slowly running her fingers through his blonde hair.
"Something like that…" Lucas yawned a bit. His fidgeting had lessened somewhat. "I'm so tired… but I'll see them again if I sleep…"
"Them?" Melissa asked, more warily this time. She didn't want to pry, but this could be important. "Who's them, Lu?"
"Claus… dad… mom… dead…" Lucas yawned again and rubbed at his eyes. "Don't wanna see them die again…"
"But your dad is still alive, Lu." Melissa tried to tell him, not sure how to react. Having not gone through most of this herself, she wasn't sure how to try and soothe him. "Remember?"
"Mm…?" Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly. He was clearly exhausted. "Really? He seemed pretty dead in the dream…"
"He's not honey, I promise he isn't. He's safe, locked up." Melissa whispered, frowning just a bit. "I really think you need to try and sleep."
"Oh… I can't sleep though… he'll die again…" Lucas shifted again, trying to get comfortable on the hard floor. "I don't want him to die again… I don't want any of them to die again…"
It hurt so bad to watch him like this, so she dropped the subject to let him relax. "Alright, if you really don't want to sleep." Melissa sighed weakly, leaning in so she could place a soft kiss to his forehead. "You don't have to. I won't make you."
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas murmured, his voice a bit slurred from exhaustion. "Why won't they leave me alone…?"
“It’s because we talked about them… I never should have asked you to do that.” Melissa whispered, feeling a tight knot of guilt in her chest. “It’s my fault… I’m so sorry Lu. I didn’t know this would happen.”
"It's not your fault, Mel… I have nightmares about them all the time anyways…" He yawned again, seeming to be growing increasingly slow and drowsy.
“B-but you… this looks really bad.” Melissa whispered, standing up and holding a hand out to him. “Worse then anything I’ve ever seen.” She insisted, attempting to pull him up on his feet.
Lucas allowed her to pull him up, but he didn't seem particularly steady. He was practically dead on his feet by now. "It… it's been worse than this, Mel… I just never wanted to call you since it's always really late at night and I don't want to wake you…"
Pulling him close to her for steadiness, she looked up into his eyes with a slight frown. "Well, I want you to wake me up next time. You're going to hurt yourself one of these nights, and I won't be able to stop you."
Lucas nodded weakly. "Okay, Mel… I'll try to remember…" He rubbed at his eyes again, still swaying a bit. "What time is it…?"
"It was eight when I woke up." Melissa whispered, holding on to him. "So sometime around eight."
He nodded again and managed to sit down on the couch when he was brought over to it. "I just… I can't think… my brain is so fuzzy, Mel… it's always either fuzzy or yelling at me…"
Sitting down besides him, she wrapped her arms over his shoulders. "Do you want to try and sleep? You don't have to, but you sounds really, really tired."
"Mmm… maybe…" Lucas closed his eyes and huddled close to Melissa, too tired to worry about how flustered he'd normally be in this position.
Slowly, she ran her fingers through his hair to try and comfort him. "I'll be here when you wake up. We can have breakfast then." Melissa mumbled, mostly to herself, while she quietly played with his hair.
"Mmkay…" Lucas soon managed to drift off into a light sleep, though he still seemed rather unsettled and tense.
Cautiously, she continued to pet him and try and soothe him in his sleep. She didn't want to wake him, if it wasn't necessary. He really needed to sleep. "Love you…" Melissa whispered, pressing a soft kiss on his cheek.
Lucas slept for a little while, but he eventually started coughing weakly in his sleep and pulled his hands up to clutch at his throat. He started breathing a little more quickly and seemed to be distressed.
The sudden movement snapped her out of her thoughts, and she lightly started shaking him. "Lu? Come on, wake up. You need to wake up." Melissa said as calmly as she could. Of course she was panicking though.
Lucas stirred a bit and soon opened his eyes. He was trembling slightly and was still clutching his throat. He drew in a few quick, wavering breaths, not quite sure he remembered how to breathe properly yet.
"Lu… you need to let go." Melissa whispered, gently taking his hands away from his throat. She was trying to be careful, lightly petting the top of his head. "Are you alright?"
