Nodding, the girl quickly put it in to the cash register reading the amount out. "10.75, please" She hummed, holding her hand out. Having been holding his card out, he watched the young girl quickly do her job before handing the card back. "Thank you sir, your drinks will be ready in just a few." With that said, Phoenix nodded politely, and lead Cicada over to a spare table.
Cicada followed him over to a table with that same smile. She sat down in one of the chairs and looked at him smiling, "Thanks for paying, and ordering. So you just got a regular coffee then?"
"Sure thing, I don't want to be rude now do I?" Phoenix hummed softly before sitting down himself. Pocketing his wallet, he looked up to her with a soft smile. "Yeah, I'm a classic kind of guy. I don't like anything fancy."
"I guess not," Cicada muttered to his first comment. She smiled back at him nodding, "I can appreciate that. Simple is always a good thing."
"Though there are some people that would disagree." Phoenix snickered softly, running his fingers through his hair. "But I'm happy being simple. Nobody should really care otherwise. Right?"
"Right," Cicada laughed as she leaned on the table. She had a soft smile on as she looked at Phoenix, "That's how it should be, and how I wish it was, but it's not like that."
"Exactly. It's really hard, though, when you see people who care anyways all the time. It's incredibly irritating…" Sighing, Phoenix ran a hand down his face mumbling incoherent words to himself. "But you get over it eventually."
Cicada nodded along. She didn’t bother to make any comments because those were the people that she always seems to end up befriending. She changed the subject smoothly, “Yeah. So how were your last few classes?”
Giving her a shrug, he took the time to think about his last few classes. "They were alright. Mostly super easy because it's the first day, but I don't expect that for long. What about you?" Phoenix didn't seem to notice the shift in the conversation. It had completely changed, and the boy hadn't even noticed.
"Yeah, mine were the same," Cicada agreed as she smiled at him. Maneuvering conversations was just one of her many skills. She let out a long dramatic sigh, "Except I already know there's a lab coming up for science and I'm not looking forward to it."
"Why not? I think labs are fun." He hummed, smiling softly. Hearing his order called, he stood up and held a hand out to her. "Is it the people, or the thing in general?" Once she had stood, he led her back to the counter to grab their drinks. "Or is it something else?"
Cicada took his hand and stood up walking with him. She bit her lip in thought as she followed him taking her drink and sipping on it, "Well, let's just say me and labs like the one we're doing have a bad track record in the past. I'm going to talk to my professor and the counselor to see if I can get excused."
"Really? How bad are we talking here?" He asked in a hum, sipping his own coffee with a slight nod. Walking over to a counter, he grabbed one or two sweeteners and ripped them open to dump in his coffee. "Like dangerous, or just ended up messing something up?"
"Dangerous?" Cicada responded not quite sure why she was telling him this. She took another sip of her coffee before letting out a sigh, "Yeah dangerous. We were doing the lab and the next thing I knew I was in the nurses off with the nurse, the professor, and a policeman all trying to calm me down. Later found out I had gone into a panic and blacked out."
"Oh, yeah that is dangerous. I'd try and get an email from your professor or someone like that as proof. It'll help you out, so they don't think you're just making it up. I'm not sure how many students try to get out of it, but it would be better safe than sorry." Phoenix nodded, stirring in the sugar before throwing his trash away. "You ready to go?"
Cicada nodded as she sipped on the iced latte. She pursed her lips for a moment, "Yeah, I'm ready to go. I think I should be able to get an email from my old professor. Hopefully, I won't need it though."
"Of course, let's hope not." Phoenix smiled placing the lid back on his coffee. Once secured he led her out the door to his car, unlocking it with the key in his pocket. "Wait- are we driving or walking?"
Cicada laughed as she followed after him, "Whatever you want. You're the one showing me around. I'm always down to walk, but if we drive you just have to drop me off back here."
Thinking out loud, Phoenix ran his free hand through his curls. "Then I say we drive, just in case. There's a number of things that would go smoother if we drove, especially then we don't walk super far and have to come back."
Cicada nodded following his line of logic. She walked over to his car and to the passenger side smiling, "Okay. Then let's get going!"
Shaking out of his state, he smiled brightly pulling his own door open. "Where to? Anywhere you think would be necessary in your daily life?" Phoenix asked her, setting his cup up in the front.
Cicada hummed as she thought. She sat down in the car and leaned back in the seat. She couldn't think of anyplace she needed to be, "None that I can think of, wellll. Okay, I thought of one. Can you show me where the library is?"
"Sure, though I'll have to show you the one on campus." Phoenix hummed with a soft smile, pulling out of the parking space. "It's a bit of a walk, but only 15 minutes driving."
"From here? Or just in general," Cicada asked as she looked around. She could actually look around the town now that she wasn't the one driving. The town really wasn't that bad.
"I was going from the school, but it's only about ten from here. I do the mapping in my head." He laughed lightly, turning down a back street before pulling out on the main road once more. "It takes longer to walk, because of all the traffic and stuff. There's no pathways from school to the library."
Cicada laughed with him. She still couldn't route most of the town in her head, so this should really help her. With his last statement, she let out a long sigh, "Oh that's wonderful. You would think they would plan that out better."
"They did, by putting one in the school." Phoenix snickered, pursing his lips together as he concentrated on his driving. "But I know what you mean."
Cicada let out a short laugh as she moved her foot. Just a silent reminder to herself she was fine, nothing was going to happen. She took a sip of her latte, "I mean, sometimes public libraries have better resources than colleges do. Ya know?"
"True, true." Phoenix hummed with a bright smile turning to face her once at a stop light. "But I mean, at least you have the option to look by the school first. If the school doesn't have it, then you come to the library."
"Yeah…" Cicada agreed nodding as she gave him a smile back. She was glad the two were hitting it off and she figured they would be good friends before she had to run again, "I just have to see the school's selection first."
