Lucas leaned back into Melissa's touch a bit and looked up at her, the soft sunlight catching the blue of his eyes for a second. "Well, clearly I like hanging around you as well, so that sounds good to me."
Lucas leaned back into Melissa's touch a bit and looked up at her, the soft sunlight catching the blue of his eyes for a second. "Well, clearly I like hanging around you as well, so that sounds good to me."
Giving him the softest, and most vulnerable look she could, she pressed her lips to the top of his head. “We should plan to hang out after school more. I could stay at baseball practice, and watch my favorite player.” She chirped, pulling back from the blue-eyed boy.
Lucas blushed at that, blinking a bit in surprise. "Uh… y-yeah. Sounds great, Mel." He smiled gently. "I'm glad you actually care enough to come. It's nice to see someone I know there, honestly… usually it's just a bunch of strangers in the stands."
Going back to her spot from before, with little struggle, she stretched her legs out with a smile. “Of course! It also gives me an excuse not to be home, so it’s a double win.” She only continued to smile brightly.
"Mhmm. That's honestly one of my favorite things about it sometimes." He put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close, sighing softly in content.
Her body tensed up, but relaxed after only a moment. “It’s the little things that matter.” She whispered in a tone she almost never used. It was full of love, and she reserved it for only a few amount of people. It wasn’t even romantic, just loving.
Lucas smiled gently and nodded. "Yeah. You really learn to appreciate little things when everything else has gone to shit, hmm?"
Laughing lightly, she curled up next to him even closer. “Especially moments like this, you just have to remember they still exist.” She hummed, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Mhmm." Lucas rested his head on Melissa's and listened to the willow's branches sway in the breeze. "I really love it here… we should go camping here sometime."
“That would be fun,” She hummed out, imagining the evening. “We’d probably set something on fire though. Knowing us.” She joked, reaching over her shoulder to take a hold of his hand.
"Probably." Lucas laughed a bit, entwining his fingers with hers. "Although, it's probably warm enough at night that we wouldn't need a fire anyways."
“Unless we wanted to roast marshmallows,” She pointed out, her face growing warm when she felt his finger curl around hers. “But I mean, we could just bring one of those small torches.”
"I guess so." Lucas hummed thoughtfully. "We can talk about details later. Is there anything else you wanted to talk about? We already shared our secrets."
“I have nothing specifically… well…” A thought came to her, and she wasn’t sure if she should ask. Weighing the weight of this going bad on her, and this going smoothly, she decided against it. “Never mind,”
"No, what is it?" Lucas asked, now curious about what she was thinking. "What did you wanna ask? I'll try my best to answer."
Pulling her hands up to her face, she felt it flush red. "I… it's kind of embarrassing." She admitted, mumbling against her hands. Sighing, she pulled them back to look up at him. "How… how do you know if a guy likes you? How would you personally show interest in a girl?"
Lucas blushed as well. "Um…" He thought for a few seconds. "Well, I think generally wanting to spend time with that girl, even if it isn't necessarily convenient for him. Little gifts are big for a lot of guys, since it's an easy way to show a girl you care. Uh… vulnerability, I guess? Most guys want to pretend they don't have feelings, so if he talks about his feelings or admits weakness or something, I think that's pretty big. Maybe if he gets nervous around her? Or tries to show off to her, especially in front of his friends?" He shrugged.
(Lucas: actually basically tells Melissa he likes her

(Sweet Lu- I love him so much….and am in 100% love with it!)
Melissa relaxed, when he graciously began answering her question. She knew it was still awkward, but not as bad as it could have been. "Really?" She wondered aloud, taking note of his words. 'He's vulnerable…' She specifically noted, looking at Lucas with a soft smile. "That's good to know, thanks Lu." She hummed, tucking loose hairs back.
Lucas nodded, looking out at the branches again so he wouldn't have to look at Melissa. Not that he didn't want to, of course, but he knew he'd get all flustered. "What about girls? What… what do girls do when they like someone?" He asked.
Pausing to think, she looked up at his face and half melted again. "I mean, I guess if this girl were to like a guy, she would probably try to show but not tell. Of course she wouldn't admit it, without you asking her. Depending on the person, she may even deny you then." She started slowly, playing with the hair she had braided. "I think touch is big too, if they're the right kind of girl. Super bubbly and outgoing, probably means she'd be close and personal. But not necessarily inappropriate ways, just simple things. Playing with your hair, touching your hand. Just enough to catch your attention." Her thoughts went astray for only a moment, coming up with her last thing. "The way she walks is probably an eye catcher too. If she's walking in a way to get attention, she's probably trying to catch the attention of someone specific."
Lucas glanced over at Melissa and blushed again. "So girls are generally more subtle than guys?" He asked. "I think most guys are kinda too stupid to be subtle, to be honest… well, they'd try, but it ends up being awkward and painfully obvious to most people anyways. I guess some guys might be better at subtlety than others." He shrugged again. "I don't know about touch, to be honest. I mean, obviously I'm a little wary of being touched, especially if I don't expect it, so I only really get touchy-feely with people I'm comfortable with." He sighed softly. "I think I'm really touch starved… at least with good touch."
"Clearly that's true." She whispered, running her thumb along the tips of his fingers. "Though not everything I said is true for all girls. It varies from girl to girl." Shifting her gaze back to his face, she sighed delicately. "I know some pretty shy girls, who get painfully flustered around a cute boy."
Lucas nodded, shivering a bit at Melissa's gentle touch. "Yeah… a lot of guys get flustered as well, but it's less socially acceptable for them to do so. It's generally looked down upon for a guy to be emotional or weak or anything…" He sighed. "It sucks, since I'm so emotional." He laughed weakly.
Melissa looked up to him, leaning forward. "I find it settling, to know guys have emotions. It's hard when the only guys you really got to know were all completely different. One was softer yet still strong headed, being Brett my older cousin. One was cold and closed off, my father. One was almost never around, my brother. And one was always there, giving me a shoulder to lean on." She smiled sweetly to him, still holding his hand. "That's you."
Lucas blushed a bit harder and looked over to her, his heart pounding. "W-Well, I… I'll always try my best to be there for you, Mel… just give me a call if you ever need help, okay? I'm a light sleeper, so even if I'm asleep, my phone would wake me up. I-I don't want you to feel alone. I know how that feels, and even as an introvert, it's one of the worst feelings in the world."
Face still pink, she gave him a heart-felt look. She felt so love sick, it hurt physically. He truly didn't know what he meant to her. Turning her waist so she could face him, she pulled him into a tight hug. "You're the best Lu, you have no idea how much you mean to me." She whispered her thoughts, to him with a half broken tone.
Lucas hugged her back, savoring the safe contact. It felt so good to be touched by someone and for it not to hurt horribly. "Same… are you alright, Mel?" He asked, his voice scarcely more than a whisper. He heard the slight brokenness in her voice, and it worried him.
Pulling back, she gave him a look. She didn't even know what it was suppose to be, but it was a look. "Yeah, I'm alright." She told him before hugging him tight once more. "Just choked up, at your sweetness towards me."
Lucas flushed harder and tightened his hold on Melissa a bit. "Mel… I'm… I can't even find a stupid excuse. I'll try my best to help you if you ever need it, alright? That's my job. If you ever need to vent, or… anything, don't hesitate to come to me."
'Excuse?' She wondered, before giving in to the lure of his voice. "I won't, ever. I promise you, I'll come to you whenever I can." Melissa told him, before nuzzling her face into the crook in his neck. Just taking in his scent, made her flush madly. "I'm here if you need me-" She replied muffled by his hoodie-"I love you so much."
