Vaughn gave a biter, forced laugh, taking another drink from the bottle. “I wish this were a story. But it isn’t. There’s no hero’s to save the day, just people playing the parts.”

“So we run,” she shrugged. “Run off to some different country, make new identities.” Like that could ever happen.

“They’ll catch us at the borders,” Vaughn said, now having a slight slur in his tone. The bottle was practically half way empty at that point.

She sighed. “Vaughn, put the bottle down.”

“No,” Vaughn responded simply as he took another swig. “It tastes great.”

She got up and stood in front of him. “You’re going to get a hangover.”

Bella sighed and rolled over on her other side, blocking out the noises of Vaughn and Haven. She soon fell asleep, but did not sleep very well.

“Good,” Vaughn said in response, leaning back in the desk chair to look up at Haven.

“Come on, you need to get some sleep while you still can,” she said, an almost pleading note in her voice.

“No sleep, you know what happened when I slept last,” Vaughn slurred, taking another quick drink.

“Take some pills or something.”

“I don’t like the pills,” Vaughn mumbled, pouting in a child like way.

“The pills,” she leaned forward. “Will help you sleep.”

“They taste weird and make me feel funny,” Vaughn murmured, looking down at the bottle in his lap.

She snatched the bottle and held it away. “I’m serious, Vaughn, you need sleep.”

Vaughn gave a whine and continued to pout at Haven. “You’re no fun,” he complained.

She glared for a moment before smiling. “I’m alive. Is that good enough?”

Vaughn exhaled in a dramatic manner, leaning back more in the chair. “Yeah, I guess..”

“Now go to sleep.”

Vaughn got up from his chair, stumbling a tad. He put a hand on the counter and walked into the backroom, sitting down on his cot.

Haven followed after putting the bottle away, lying down on her own cot.

Vaughn laid down, hugging his pillow to his chest tightly.
