Azula nodded as she un-crossed her arms. It had started to rain lightly outside, making the people look up at the sky in complete confusion and shock. Most people had checked the weather before leaving their houses and saw that there was not going to be any rain. Azula’s mood was worsening at the minute, and that was never a good thing.
“It’s not fair that you’re forcing people to work for you. They should be able to decided if they want to work for you or not.” She paused and then continued. “I agree with Luke, I rather be in a cage than being forced to work for you.”
Coral spoke up. "Can…can I say something?" Fury nodded at her. "Please don't take this the wrong way, but I feel like this is actually a good opportunity. A lot of heroes are having kids and retiring - that's what happened with Mum. And we're the next generation. When our parents are gone, who will protect us? This isn't just about us - we need to be able to put aside our wants and needs in order to save everyone else. The other heroes did. Why can't we?"
"Because no one wants to be forced into helping people," Luke said, looking angrily at her. "It makes you hate the people you're supposed to help. Or have you never learned that?"
Coral didn't like being spoken to like she was a stupid little child. She rarely angered, but this made her angry. She slammed her hand on the table, a wave of magic shooting through it and making it flip over on its own. "Hate has no place in social decency! How is saving someone from death any different to helping a granny walk across the street?! Why would you happily help the granny with no worry of hurt but not risk your own neck to help someone who is dying?!"
“Look, here. Our parents made their choice to become heroes and save the world, but that doesn’t mean just because we’re the children of heroes, we want to become heroes. Most of us here, if not all of us, want to live a normal life. Well, as normal as it can be. Do you think we want to be forced to become heroes just because we’re the next damn generation!?"
Coral sat back down, eyes glowing red. She was calming herself down, and her expression slowly relaxed. Fury gave her a look and she fixed the table back to how it was. "I'm not saying that we should just because we're the next generation. It doesn't matter if our parents are the Avengers or if we're just some plain kid from the street. We have these powers and we might as well use them."
“Yes, we have powers. And yes we could use them, but what part of we don’t want to be heroes do you people not understand? If we don’t want to become heroes, than there’s nothing that there can be done.” Azula sighed and rubbed her eyes. The rain started hitting the window, making a loud and annoying noise.
"I'm not." Fenris said suddenly. "I mean- your parents all fought with the Avengers, mine fought the Avengers." He put his face in his hands. "In earth terms, he isn't a hero."
“Oh, there’s were you’re wrong dear cousin. Your dad might have fought the Avengers, but he also fought alongside the Avengers. Which, makes him more of an Anti-hero.”
"But did he ever fight with them. On earth. To save earth." He slid off the chair and sat on the floor.
“Maybe he didn’t fight with them on Earth, but he did fight with them to save Earth. If that’s not the answer you’re looking for, than I’m sorry. At the moment, I can’t give straight answers. Weirdly enough, I just really wanna see someone getting struck by a lightning bolt.”
Fenris shrugged it off and went back to glaring at Nick Fury.
Her eyes darkened, as did her mood. She glared at Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Coral Maximoff and then stood up from her seat. “Well, this has been all fun and all, but if you excuse me, I have places to be and things to do. Thank you for your time.”
"Just curious," Fenris said, relaxing his shoulders slightly, "What would we get from it if we signed on? What's in it for us?"
Coral shot out magic and made Azula stop in her tracks. She didn't like doing it but Fury often made her do what she needed to do to keep someone on track.
"I'm sorry," She mouthed to Azula.
"Well, Fenris," Fury started. "Fame. Glory. Money. Power. But that's not what you want, is it? None of you want this. You all want to be left alone. So how about this. You guys stay under contract for one month. One month! That's all I'm asking. And then you can be as free as a bird."
"I'll do two weeks," Luke said, crossing his arms. Rage boiled through him as that Maximoff girl made Azula stop, holding her against her will. If there was anything that was going for being an Avenger, anything good with this, that action had just made him lose it. There was nothing good about the Avengers, and this was why he should have run away when he could. "Not a month."
Azula hadn’t realized how horrible the man behind the Avengers was until today. The droplets of water slowly started transforming into pieces of hail, falling down onto the land, threatening to break the windows of the cars. She didn’t care if Coral was sorry or not, but she didn’t like it one bit that she was stopped. She sighed and tried her best to look at Nick Fury. “I’m only going to do three weeks. That’s it. No more than three weeks. If you don’t like it, well than that’s to bad.”
"Fine! Fine. But you can't leave now. Your training has already started." Coral let Azula go, shrinking back into herself. "Romanoff!"
A boy stood up in the back of the room, one that no one had seen when they entered or during the whole debacle. He had dark skin with a littering of freckles, his black hair dyed pale pink on top. Coral visibly relaxed at the sight of him.
Azula sat down on the chair and sighed. She rubbed her temples and looked at the ground, not hearing the screams of the people that were getting hit by the hail. She looked up and looked at the back of the room where the boy was. “Who’s he?”
"My name is Levi. Levi Romanoff. I'm sure you know my mother, or even my father. Perhaps not by appearance, but by name. After all, there's only one assassin with the last name of Romanoff."
Fenris stood up quickly and moved so his back was against the wall. "And you're here to…?"
"Train you, like Fury said. Train you to fight and use your powers to your advantage. It's gonna be hard but it's a necessary thing to learn it."
“Oh. Well, it’s nice to meet you, Levi. I’m Azula. Azula Thorsdottir.” She paused and then started fiddling with her fingers. She looked at Levi and smiled warmly at him. “Um. . . No.” She then frowned and looked at a window.
"And why exactly are you here, right now?" Fenris asked. He was in a bad mood now and couldn't wait to see Loki again. So he could yell at him.
"Because you're part of the squad. Effective immediately. Meaning you're training. Now. Get up."
"I'm already up." Fenris growled, gesturing to the fact that he was indeed standing.
Azula started laughing and wiped a imaginary tear from her eye. She looked at Levi and narrowed her eyes at him. “Of course I’m not going to stand up. You can’t make me. No one can make me stand up.”
Coral spoke up. "I could…but I'm not going to. I think that we should listen to Levi. We've got nothing better to do anyway, were stuck here for a while."
“Oh, yes. Listen to the boy I just met about twenty five seconds ago and completely trust him, just for him to later betray all of us and turn us into the bad guy. Yeah, sure, let’s do that, because why not?”
Levi sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "You do realise that I'm here to help you? Whether you like it or not, I'm on your side. The side that wants to help people and not destroy them. The only thing I want to do is help you guys achieve that."
