Alex bit his lip, and shrugged helplessly. "I don't know…" He whispered. Nearly three years clean, gone in one night.
(not gonna be super active tonight, sorry)
Alex bit his lip, and shrugged helplessly. "I don't know…" He whispered. Nearly three years clean, gone in one night.
(not a problem!)
“I mean, you’ve been cryin’ a lot, you gotta be some kinda dehydrated, right?” Danny frowned, his head cocked.
Alex looked down at the mattress. "I'm not that thirsty." He replied softly. He couldn't help that he was crying. He couldn't help it.
“Alright, man. Just tell me if you need anything, yeah?” Danny stood, rocking on his heels.
He nodded. "I fucked up." He said again, voice quiet. "My dad is dying, and I just ruined…I…I was clean for years and now I've destroyed it all, and…"
Danny was taken by surprise at Alex’s statement, for sure. “Wait, did you fucking use? Alex..” He covered his mouth with a hand, unsure of how to respond.
He nodded a little bit. "M-most of it's worn off by n-now…" He shrugged his shoulders slightly, curling in on himself protectively.
Danny looked at Alex, all curled in on himself. “Shit, man. God, I’m sorry. Fuck. Same shit?”
He nodded a little bit. "Yeah…" He closed his eyes, rubbing at them with a hand and trying not to cry again.
“Fuck, that’s heavy.” Danny sighed, moving to sit on the edge of Alex’s bed. “How are you feeling?”
"Like shit." Alex said softly, swallowing hard and trembling as he tried not to cry.
“..Yeah, I figured. Do you think you can sit up?” Danny looked Alex over again, trying to decipher the best course of action in this situation.
Alex sat up, wrapping the blankets tightly around his body. He sniffled softly.
“..Alright. I don’t know a lot about this, I’ll be honest— so what can I do to help? Can I even do anything?”
He nodded a little. "There…isn't really anything you can do." he said softly, looking down at his hands, unable to meet Danny's eyes.
“That’s what I was scared of, fuck.” Danny sighed, gnashing his jagged teeth in frustration.
"Sorry." Alex whispered, covering his face with a hand and sniffling slightly.
“No, man, Alex, don’t apologize to me. I’m sorry I can’t help, brother.” Danny pushed his hair back, away from his forehead.
He shrugged his shoulders slightly, tugging the blankets close around his body. "I pr-probably woke you, though…and…and there isn't even a r-reason, I-I just…"
“You know? You did. But that’s fine, I really don’t care. I’m glad you called me, I don’t think you should really be by yourself right now.”
He closed his eyes, and was quiet for a minute. Finally, he whispered, "I'm scared, Danny." His breath caught for a moment. "W-what if I do this again? What if…what if I-I call him again and…"
Danny’s voice went soft. “Hey, hey- it’s alright to be scared. This is a scary situation to be in.” He took a small breath. “I don’t know what’ll happen, ‘n I can’t pretend I even got a clue. Just know you’ve got a support system in the works, okay? You aren’t alone.”
Alex kept his eyes closed, looking so small, curled up in his blankets. "A-and I can't…I can't pester m-my mom with this, she…she's got enough on her plate already, what with d-dad…she doesn't need to have to deal w-with my fuck-ups t-too…"
“If you don’t want to tell your mom, you don’t have to. You’re a grown man. But she’s your mom, Alex. The woman cares about you, I’m sure.” Danny tried to reassure him, head tilted and posture leaning forward.
"W-well yeah, but…" he trailed off, shaking his head quickly. "I…sh-she has so much t-to deal with already, a-and if I tell her she…she'd be so disappointed, Danny…"
“Well, duh. No parent is exactly excited to hear their kid’s relapsed. Hell, I’m disappointed, but there’s a difference between that ‘n being angry.”
He closed his eyes tightly, a soft sound escaping his mouth. "I know…" he whispered.
Danny was putting less of a filter on his words now, though he didn’t realize it. “But you ain’t gonna be able to hide it forever. Moms find that kinda shit out.”
He drew tighter into his blankets, a silent little tear streaking down his cheek. "I know."
“It’s just your responsibility to figure out if you want to tell her now or wait until she gets wind.” Danny shrugged, gnawing at his nail. “You know?”
